GTA 5 Leaked Footage Confirms Current Gen Console Limitations

Gaming Blend "As evidenced throughout the video, especially starting at the 12:49 mark, we can easily see the Xbox 360 absolutely struggling to keep up at times. The opening intro movie shows blotchy loading of the shadow resolution, as well as shadow and texture pop-in happening in horrendously obvious ways all throughout the video. That's not to mention that the LOD streaming almost seems to be a skip behind the beat at times, where the game is moving faster than what the hardware can keep up with."

It's not much of an issue (unless it slips in when driving about or flying). This sort of thing is to be expected anyway. Considering the size of the game, it's amazing they managed to pull it off on current gen consoles.

If you look around the 20 minute mark the car actually goes through a whole area thats not even been popped in or whatever the thing looks like it actually fucks him up.

PoSTedUP3913d ago

gyaIV was like that on the 360. im driving full speed (which isnt that fast) when all of a sudden i crash dead in my tracks followed by a sign or billboard or w/e pops-in in front of me 3-4 seconds after.

dp2774073913d ago

@Postedup damn that sucks I didnt play much of 4 so I may have never played enough to encounter it although I assume I would of but I never had that happen too me on the PS3.

Enemy3914d ago

Well, this is the 360 port. No evidence of this happening on PS3.

LaChance3913d ago

Yep, with the power of the Cell PS3 version should be alright like with other open world Rockstar games.

Haules3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

GTA4 360 version also had this pop in objects probs and PS3 didn't have these probs. Hope GTA5 will release on the PC.

Golden_Mud3913d ago

Unfortunately the PS3 version have even more in-pops (I have both versions)

Kryptix3913d ago

He has both versions through YouTube videos running at 144p resolution. lol

esemce3913d ago

Yep it's true people both versions have pop up and Jaggies everywhere, I want a PC/PS4 version this game deserves better hardware.

It looks great but the old hardware cannot keep up.

GhostHero3333913d ago

Dont try and talk logic around here there are playstation fanboys everywhere on these kinds of article's.

I've never played GTAIV on the 360 but wasn't it the superior version? I ALWAYS here bad stuff about the ps3 version.

starchild3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

If I remember correctly the 360 version had a higher resolution and a better framerate.

Edit: Ok, I just checked Digital Foundry and this is what they said at the end:

"After almost two thousands words of technical discussion, the bottom line is that it's clear that Rockstar had some issues matching the basic performance of the Xbox 360 game on the PS3 hardware. Lower resolution, zero anti-aliasing support and a more variable frame-rate are the bottom line."
http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

Oh, and here is an excerpt from their Red Dead Redemption face-off in case you are interested:

"So, we're just left with the matter of the final recommendation. We've demonstrated conclusively that the Xbox 360 version of Red Dead Redemption possesses higher resolution, improved levels of detail, noticeably superior performance in-game and fewer jaggies owing to a more consistently applied anti-aliasing solution that doesn't blur the image. Shadows are generally sharper, and of better quality (particularly on the characters' self-shadows).

Just about the only area where PS3 commands an advantage is in terms of loading: the 515MB mandatory install shaves off a few seconds, but as the only in-game loading occurs during fast-travel between locations (using the campsite), it's hardly worth mentioning. Certainly the install doesn't grant any kind of tangible performance boost in terms of less LOD-popping or anything like that."
http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

I do think that Rockstar has likely improved how their engine functions on the PS3, though, so I expect the PS3 version of GTA5 to perform better than the PS3 versions of GTA4 and RDR. That said, I don't think it is going to be better than the 360 version the way some people are saying.

esemce3913d ago

Yes GTA4 and Red dead both ran better on the 360.

Look at x number of ps3 streams at the minute and that is instantly proven wrong.

The 360 AND ps3 are really spluttering trying to run this game, which was expected really, if a little disappointing. I hope they port it to PS4, it will do gta v justice.

I read on Neogaf that someone said that the PS3 version also had fps issues here and there. Doesn't change the fact that it is probably an awesome game. GTA4 also had fps issues.

RedDeadLB3914d ago

GTA4 has fps issues on all platforms.

Stsonic3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

Yer GTA4 runs like a turd on high end PC's even now.

I have an fx 8350 and a 7950 and the game struggles at points. you are definitely not averaging 100fps

kevnb3913d ago

gta 4 runs great on my pc, especially now that I have an ssd. mind you im using reasonable draw distance and traffic settings.

Are_The_MaDNess3913d ago

run at over 100 FPS with a 580....and that isnt that high end even.......

CoLD FiRE3913d ago

GTAIV was a terrible port. It runs like complete shit on my HD7950 no matter what settings I'm playing on, it still stutters even when I'm averaging 60FPS.

I have no problem running demanding games like Crysis 3.

LOGICWINS3913d ago

I'm sure its a fantastic game. Still getting the PS4 version though.

Deadpoolio3913d ago

Thats logical get the version of a game that does not exist and probably wont exist, since Rockstar has pretty much said that NO there will not be PS4/One80 versions

abusador3913d ago

Im wondering, if its announced, will we be able to upgrade our ps3 versionto ps4 for cheap.

NihonjinChick3913d ago

Yes, get the version that probably will never exist.

LOGICWINS3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

It'll be out in a few months to a year. Maybe sooner. I'd actually go as far to say that GTAV was a next-gen title all along and that the PS3/360 versions are just ports of the superior next-gen versions.

Rockstar I'll keep quiet for the next few months while their game sells buttloads and then they'll announce the next-gen version in the Spring so people can double dip.

jdaboss3913d ago

@Deadpoolio - Yea, except theyve never explicitly said they werent making Next Gen versions or even PC versions either genius.

MysticStrummer3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

If there's a PC version then there will possibly be PS4 and One versions, since we keep hearing how similar both are to PCs. Might be a year or so before the next gen consoles get it though, if they get it at all. I'd say there's a decent chance.

GarrusVakarian3914d ago (Edited 3914d ago )

Its too be expected on current gen with a game of this size unfortunately. Lets hope next gen and PC versions get announced soon.

M-M3914d ago

That wouldn't make a difference either, GTA4 still had its share of issues on PC.

cyguration3914d ago

That was due to poor porting, though.

GarrusVakarian3913d ago

GTA4 was a notoriously bad port.

Stsonic3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

GTA4 pc version is bad, it will struggle to hit 60fps even on a high end pc now.

If max payne 3 has anything to go by the game will be flawless if it ever comes.

kingduqc3913d ago

Share of issues but it still run at 60 fps in 2560*1440 on my PC.

also, last r* game on pc was preatymuch flawless, they learned their lesson

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) Best Settings for Low End PC: RTX 3060/RX 6600/RTX 4060 Laptop GPU

Grand Theft Auto V was released over 9 years ago, but the player base is largely intact due to regular updates to the Online Multiplayer. The game had some technical issues at launch, most notably a CPU utilization issue, but most recent chips shouldn’t have any issues running it.

i think the only real loss is GTAV

OtterX9d ago

I think everyone and their sister owns the game by now. They likely want to squeeze the rest of the holdouts before GTAVI releases.

Profchaos9d ago

That game comes and goes from subscriptions so frequently I think it's expected now. Like rdr2 on gamepass Rockstar Games only last a max of 3 months On a service

MrBaskerville9d ago

Talos Principle is the real loss.

BanginTunes9d ago

Facts that game is good as fuck I'm playing through 2 now, very underrated

Huey_My_D_Long9d ago

indivisible was pretty neat. Cute artstyle, fun throwback to older RPGs, shame its leaving but it is on sale often

shinoff21839d ago

Definitely. I e joyed what I played of it. Still gotta grab the physical at some point

Petebloodyonion9d ago

I'm not surprised by GTA V removal, Rockstar never allows this game to stay long on a subscription service.
They usually allow 4 to 6 months.

lodossrage9d ago

Yeah, they do that routinely with both GTA and Red Dead.

But it's because they know they can still sell them so they take them off and on to these sub services in cycle.

The weird thing to me is why is anyone still buying those games at this point? You would think after 3 generations of being sold GTA 5 that everyone and their momma would have it by now

RNTody9d ago

I fail to see how the loss of an almost 11 year old game that released across 3 generations is in any way a problem.
