Gamepro has posted an armchair analysis of the listed retail exclusives known to be coming to the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 in 2008/2009.
Sarcastic Gamer takes a look at the "list" and tells you the real story.

I know what I like and what's coming out. I know there's good games for both systems. Just so you know, I think NG2 and Alan Wake are going to rock and felt the writer of the article is stupid for dismissing them. Especially when he clearly like the GOW series. He also said he doesn't like racers but wants motorstorm and twisted metal. I know this review was biased, I just find it ironic that a biased individual is calling him out. Pot and Kettle you know?

and Fenderputty.....if this article was titled "Sony Protection Group's Battle of 08/09 Exclusives" then I wouldn't have a problem with it. But this is a general gaming site, I know we all have bias but this writer straight up admits it.

Not only do many other reviewers agree with my PS3 game reviews, but I have failed countless 360 games and NO PS3 games. So that arguement is pretty baseless (for the...I dont know how many times you've attempted to throw this in my face).

Overall this is a pretty shady article. I have lost what ever little respect I ever had for SG

Everyone can debate all day who will have the better games, but to me its not a big deal. I have all three consoles and I destined to get all the best games. To those of you who can not afford all three consoles now. They will all be really inexpensive in the near future. Imagine paying $159 to $199 for a Wii, $199 to $289 for an Xbox Elite, or $199 to $289 for a PS3 and get games like Bioshock, Drakes Fortune, Mass Effect, MGS4, Gears of War, Ratchet and Clank, and the possibiities are limitless. Take away your dislike or your favoritism for the 360, or PS3, or the Wii and think about this, no matter wha great game comes out you will be able to own it, it's just a matter at not emptying your wallet or purses.

Motorstorm-the only fun console racer in my opinion.
Heavenly Sword- great gameplay and immersive story
Folklore-a refreshing action RPG-cool semi-emo story, with great art direction
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune- Great gameplay- awesome story that resembles a hollywood film
Ratchet and Clank: FTOD- an enjoyable experience brings great platforming and gameplay with Pixar movie type graphics.
Call of Duty 4:- Great singleplayer, with a online counterpart that will keep bringing you back.
Warhawk-4 player splitscreen online/offline. Huge maps , cool weapons airplanes, ground vehicles and turrrets etc.
Unreal Tournament 3- Great online experience with awesome mods, maps and etc. Example
GTA 4: No brainer. GTA on a next gen sytem
Metal Gear Solid 4: Epic story and great gameplay.
Haze:Looks very promising 4 player offline and online co-op, nice graphics.
White Knight Chronicles: A JRPG from the makers of Dark Cloud and Jean d'arc. Sweet graphics.
Killzone 2: A very promising shooter with some of the best graphics in console shooter. If gameplay is fun then it should good because the PS2 hardware sorta restricted the first game.
LittleBigPlanet: A social online experience that looks to be very deep with customization and map making.
Getaway 3: This game always had a great story with big production values and big name voice actors. The Devs had 2 games of experience and should be capapble of making a great game.
Resistance 2: Sequel to the popular RFOM. 2 player co-op offline, 8 player co-op offline. Epic online objectives battles with up to 60 players and several soldier types .
Resident Evil 5: No brainer, a resident evil on a next gen system.
Final Fantasy XIII- JRPG with Great Story and Gameplay.
Final Fantasy versus XIII- very promising action rpg which looks just as promising as FFXIII.
God of War III- Slashing and ripping people in half with Kratos in HD? We got a winner.
Shadow of Colossus- Taking the Epic story telling of team ICO's game to the next Gen.

With most of these titles likely to spearhead Sony's Social experience , Home. It will be a great year and next.

He tosses out Ninja Gaiden (Hack n Slash), Too Human (Hack n Slash with heavy RPG elements), Fable (RPG with Hack n Slash combat), Halo Wars (RTS), and Halo Chronicles (???). Then, he continues to keep 5 shooters (only 2 of which he thinks he'll buy), and a hack n slash game on the PS3 side.

What a BS article. I clicked this thinking I'd see something explaining how PS3's list includes 2-3 WHOLE years, while 360's includes this holiday and maybe early next year (Halo chronicles excepted).

I dont know how much of a system seller Gears 2 is going to be. sequels never seem to pull a lot of new gamers in, especially when you consider the demographic gears 2 is going for. They all already own a 360.

As for R2, I think its in the same boat as Gears 2. People arent going to go out and buy a system for this game. They will buy the system for LBP and KZ2 though.

You can tell you haven’t been playing games very long. The big N is known for being a 1rst party god. I am not that big into Nintendo these days due to all the party games but if R&D 1 or 2 have anything to do with the game it is 100% going to be a hit. Miyamoto is god and any dev who is worth a snot respects the man as a god. Hating on the pioneers of modern video games as we know them just shows how little you know about gaming. D-pads, analog sticks, shoulder buttons, rumble, functional motion sensing, wireless controllers, 3d console games, platformers, handheld game systems and sooooo many other things are all common place today thanks to nintendo.

I don't think NG2 will push 360 sales, so I said the only system seller on 360 this year is Gears of War 2 and only if it is really that good.

God of War 3 IS NOT a system seller, GOW games did very good on PS3, but what is the ratio of the sales? 5% of PS2 owners bought the game?

System sellers are games that make people buy a console, and the ONLY country where System Sellers really EXIST is JAPAN. People in USA and Europe buy a console because of their game library, there may be some people that buy a console because of Madden os something else, but not thousands..
In Japan, people really love FF and MGS, so if FF XIII was canceled on PS3 and shifted to 360, Japan would BUY BUY BUY 360 consoles.

I was talking gameplay. They both have decent stories, though they are completely different.

Both games play essentially the same. If MGS played just like GoW and kept the same story, feel free to compare them, but they play completely differently. NG and GoW do not other than the fact that the combos are different and the characters have abilities that correspond to the type of person they are. They are both still hack n slash games with changable weapons, upgradable abilities, epic bosses, and seas of enemies for you to kill while trying to keep your combo huge.

I agree with the Executive. God of War IS a system seller. It's a casual action game that's great fun for anybody to pick up. Ninja Gaiden isn't (see my exception below). Ninja Gaiden is an extremely tough action game (yes I agree that they are the same style of game) The first one didn't meet great sales on the original Xbox due to it's difficulty. (and possibly the type of game.)

Ninja Gaiden will be the reason I pick up my 360 but I'm an exception as I'm a hardcore gamer that enjoys a challenge. To the average Joe they'll take GoW over NG every day.

For what it's worth, although I loved GoW 1 and 2 I preferred Ninja Gaiden

The ps3 list is larger and still gimped. There are over 20 exclusives that have not come out yet just for 2008 and its not including gow3 twisted metal and final fantasy13 which I think have no chance this year and were not dated for this year anyway. How many exclusives will I actually buy is another thing... I know im picking up 8days, mgs4, socom, killzone, res2, motorstorm2, Haze(If my friends agree to get it with me), and there are some titles sony still have under their sleeves to be released at E3 i think like heavy rain.

Im still waiting for something on the 360 to surprise me gears2 alone does not cut it. Fable2 wont attract any more ppl than bioshcok did NG2 is in the same boat NG is a good game but it doesnt touch other games in its genre like prince of persia or gow. Halo Wars will never be good. Free Radical isn't well known, but they have a pretty sweet resume. Their most prominent memebers worked on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark for the 64, and there is no console series out there with faster paced action or multiplayer options than timesplitters.

Tales of vesperia.... Great rpg however rpgs are system sellers in the land of the rising sun mainly since as you have pointed in previous threads japanese games dont get such a warm reception from the 360 fanbase. So it wont be a system seller for NA or Japan maybee in europe but i doubt it.

Alan wake... Jury is out on that one same fate as too human a lot too prove and nothing tangible to show it as a system seller since all of their demos have not raised the profile of the game in the eyes of the mainstream gamer.

I really doubt that dlc will sell systems more than the original launch was its like claiming that Bring down the sky pack in mass effect is selling systems right now. I can give you Afrika, Heavy Rain, 8 Days, Valkyrie, Yakuza, Wardevil, Wipeout, and a few others, but the rest of that list of games haven't been confirmed (Dark Cloud 3, Steambot Chronicles) confirmed exclusive (LA Noire) are PSN games/ niche games (disgaea, mist of chaos), or we haven't even seen any footage of (Ni-Oh, Angel Rings).

Its still an impressive list, but it is definitely misleading. Would you mind consolidating it to list more of the big games and put less filler next time you post it?

The only thing I didn't agree with is that Resistance 2 might not be a console seller. I'd think Killzone over Resistance 2. Xbox has sold a little over 6 million more systems then the ps3 world wide. With this line up I can see them being just about even by Christmas and Xbox Came out a year earlier. This War might not be decided this year... but you can bet whatever the outcome looks like the 360 will be last.

And for anyone that things Ninja Gaiden 2 and God of war are the same thing .. please find yourself a bridge and hang yourself off it. God of War is probably one of the Best Series of games I've ever played. That ninja is not half as cool or badass as Kratos. I bought Ninja gaiden one for ps3 and never picked it up after the 2nd stage. Boring! I know it may sound like I'm hating on the xbox here.. but come on, just an educated decision ... one has more exclusives and better overall titles with a history of success. No brainer

This coming from someone who things pixel junk monsters is one of the most addictive and coolest games I've played in a while - expansion due this month also not on this list!

Ninja Gaiden is NOT a system seller but God of War IS????, yeah OK. I think NG Black sold about 1.5+ mil on xbox, God of War sold what like 3 mil on the PS2 and GOW2 has only managed to sell what like close to 2 mil at best on a platform with over 100 mil owners. I mean I don't expect that either GOW game should have sold alot of ps2's considering there are already tons of people who own one already but you would think it would have sold alot more software units to be considered a so called system seller now. I'd have to say both games are very popular but the #'s don't really show either game is a "system seller", ha ha what is that anyway? This whole post is inconsistent= one mans opinion.

Yeah there was over 100mill Ps2 sold but the library is so "huge" that I didn't even know GoW existed 'till almost a year after it's released. There are games I'm still discovering on the Ps2.

Saying Res2 wont be a system seller. Res1 was a LAUNCH title. Mostly only the ppl who bought a ps3 bought resistence when launch but no1 really bought a ps3 FOR resistence. All the people who heard or played the first resistance and dont have a ps3 will hear of the 2nd 1 and I know it will sell TONS of systems for the holidays. I have a couple friends who have 360s and played resistance wish they had it on 360 and if they dont get a ps3 before res2 comes out im sure res2 will be the last bolt that turns to make them finally get a ps3.

Also there are going to be big improvements from RFOM to res2 so a lot of ppl will be looking forward to it. I mean Res2 news brought more hype and info then gears2 news and supposedly its better(which i think isnt true they both are equal but in there own ways have great things to them). As a result of gears like a year after 360 release gears already enacted its system seller role. Its like vice city it was a huge system seller but san adreas wasnt but both great games in the series.

Esp. when you factor in they both have block buttons which makes combat very similar.

Heavenly Sword and DMC are ver similar also.
They DON'T have a block feature.
HS is a 'mix' if you choose (button mash or no button mashing)
Nariko does'nt even have a jump.
And Ryu can no longer cling to walls.

Because they Both have block buttons they are the same game? God of War has one of the Best Storys I've ever see in a game. I couldn't stop playing part 2 because i had to know how it would end. NG story is crap compared to the GOW games. Kratos is the God of War that has his family ashed stained to his skin because he killed them in an act of blind rage. How the hell can a guy in a ninja suit even compete with that? "ohh nooo they burned my ninja villiage". Garbage. I've played them both and there is no contest.
