Week recap: PS3 Blu-ray; Xbox 360 HD DVD; Wii sales

Sales for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 reached 64,000 units in the latest weekly Japan retail data. The console ranked No. 4 in overall hardware sales.

Sony this week said that it will discontinue the 20GB and 60GB PS3 SKUs in Japan. It will sell only the 40GB model at present time.

The frame rate for Konami Corp.'s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was in flux this week at the 2008 CES in Las Vegas. Heavy on-screen action caused the title to dip from 60 to 30 frames per second.

Star Wars - it's Fox (a blu-ray exclusive company), but Lucas has the rights to format releases.

Lord of the Rings - New Line who will be Blu-ray exclusive in May.

... but he can still act. The Matrix is the role he was born to play, like Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man.

Movies like The Lakehouse absolutely blow because Keanu is the worst actor you could possibly choose for anything emotional. Even the scene where SPOILER!!! Trinity dies in the Matrix SPOILER!!! is almost laughable.

I used to think he couldn't act, but after seeing all the matrix movies, I see that he can act; the problem is, he can only act as Neo.

You know I'm right. No one else could of done Neo. Maybe Christian Bale, but he lacks the robotic nature of Keanu.

It's funny how an initial HD-DVD supporter/backer wants to shell out a Blu-Ray add-on for its console. I can't wait to see what the Blu-Ray association's answer to that is ;)

It really was a risky gamble for Sony by including that. And though I would have purchased a PS3 even if it didn't have Blu Ray, I really am glad to have it now.

How was MGS4 dipping down to 30FPS news? The game was never promised to be 60FPS through out. There's 1st party 360 games that dip below 30 FPS and that was not a big deal.

I don't see a problem with it as long as the game runs smooth which has already been verified as so. Most of the game is at 60fps but when there is a lot of explosions and stuff going on the Frame rate goes to 30fps and then back to 60fps. Either way both are very playable and it has been reported to be a smooth process.

Oh by the way, good to see the PS3 still doing good after the holidays.

Because gamers go where the games are. And the PS3/360 has the goods this year. PSP gets God Of War: Chains Of Olympus, and DS gets FFIV, and Wii gets Mario Kart and SSB: Brawl... And what else?

MGS4, RE5, FFXIII, GoWII (both hopefully), HAZE, Turok, DMC4... The powerhouses will take the lead this year.

People on this site just don't get casual gamers--they're a force to be reckoned with. The top 10 DS games (containing titles like Nintendogs, two Brain Trainings, Animal Crossing, and Pokemon) have sold about the same number of copies as the top 10 games for the PS2 (Grand Theft Autos, Grand Turismos, Need for Speeds, Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2, Medal of Honor: Frontline).

You can continue to underestimate the casual gaming market if you wish, but it just makes you look foolish.

But I honestly haven't bought any yet.

I'm planning on getting the 3 Resident Evils, because they are a blast to watch with buddies. Troy and Kingdom Of Heaven and Lost: Season 3 are planned too.
