GameSpot denies Eidos pressured firing of Gerstmann

Joystiq just got off the phone with Sarah Cain, a CNET spokesperson who wanted to amend CNET's previous statement to Joystiq on the recent firing of executive editor Jeff Gerstmann. While reiterating that CNET does not discuss personal employee matters with the press, Cain said directly that "we do not terminate employees based on external pressure from advertisers." When asked specifically about whether any such pressure was even attempted on Eidos' part, Cain had no comment.

gotta be careful saying that though... Who knows if they indeed fired him for not giving a higher score. It isnt looking good for gamespot though and something suspicious happened there.

I never went to gamespot for anything anyway. So this doesnt effect me, however, I wonder with all the suspicious reviews as of late if this problem isnt more rampant.

heres a true story.me,bestgameralive,and xbox is the best are all friends in the real world even lived in the same house at one point.anyway when ps3 launched both were xbox fanboys and i stuck with ps3.they made fun of me clowned for months.ps3 graphics suck it has no games.today bestgameralive has a ps3 and says its the best system out.xbox is the best recently confessed that he is going to buy the ps3 next month and this guy swore on jesuses blood he would never buy one and i swore i would never buy xbox.guess what xbox still doesnt spark my interest but hes getting a ps3 and i will never buy xbox.this is how i know its over fr xbox.you guys know how big of a fan he is on this site.if u dnt believe me just ask bestgameralive

They just did honest reviews - honestly. All those gifts and advertising revenues from some particular publishers coinciding with the high scores is just coincidental. Just pure chance. And the guy giving a low score to the one very generous publisher being fired is just coincidental too.

Honestly....

And so the reviewers little empire comes crumbling down. And the parent companies will take a credibility hike as well.

Obviously if she says "no comment" in regards to if Eidos pressured them or not....

Then Eidos obviously pressured them.

There's nothing wrong with saying no if that's the truth.

But she didn't say "no" because that's not the truth, and if she DID say no, she knows that there are people out there who would tell the truth.

I hate the witholding of information. It's maddening.
