First Lost Odyssey review: Famitsu Xbox 360 9/8/8/8

The special Xbox 360 version of the most popular games magazine in Japan has just hit store shelves and its always interesting to look at the review scores. In the latest issue, Xbox 360 cracker Lost Odyssey was reviewed for the first time, and rewarded with 9/8/8/8 which brings its total to 33/40 which equals 8.25/10. Other games that have been reviewed are Guilty Gear 2, Virtua Fighter 5, Kingdom Under Fire, Conan, Stuntman and Viva Pinata Party Animals.

Giving ME 10, is really biased. I mean, game is great, But not PERFECT 10, game has issues and that s a FACT. So, most M$ games scores are bought by M$. Nothning new here.

While someone that hasn't played Uncharted would call it a crap game and who in their right mind calls a 88% score average a crap game? You sir are delusional. Halo3 is more of a crap game, while I'll give you Bioshock, and Mass Effect are great games. Still funny how the lowest score for Mass Effect is a 7/10 while Uncharted is a solid 8. Someone thought it was a crappier game than Uncharted. Right now while playing all the game you love to list as stellar game, Uncharted has been the BEST experience yet. Still haven't played ME so that might change in a few weeks. To end this little rant Uncharted is by far anything but a crap game.

Perhaps Mass Effect got a perfect 10 from someone because in their book, right now Mass Effect is an excellent RPG?

I wasn't aware that RPGs were upheld to the same criteria that FPS are. Or perhaps Puzzle games?

The texture loading and the so called framerate issues (which I have seen none of) never detract from the game itself. And if you're playing Mass Effect for its Team AI abilities you are deluisial.

The game is being graded on its other merits like perhaps a top notch story.

If we graded RPGs sheerly by graphics, FFVII would have lower scores. The character models had jaggy issues as well as some weird animations with those characters. Don't get me wrong, FFVII is a GREAT game but if you were rating it would you give it a 7 because of graphical issues? No. You wouldn't. Yes, I know the backgrounds were amazing. Some of my favorite desktops come from that game.

I had expected higher scores. Then again, Lost Odyssey is ranked #7 in the Famitsu Most Wanted chart, two week before release. Blue Dragon at that time, was at something like #18. So I expect double Blue Dragon sales, or atleast equal.

4.2 - It was supposed to be simultaneuos release.

LO was to be a worldwide launch, so it has likely been through most (or all) of the localization. I think LO was moved to Feb in the west due to Mass Effect. We have already seen trailers in english.

I have never found a Japanese made game to be worth $60
Dead Rising was close, oh so close

I want to like Japanese games, but they always fall short when compared to western games. Compare Mass Effect and Oblivion to Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata. I have beat all of them (50% thru Mass Effect), and I can say that Japan is complacent. They have great artists, but stagnant game engines.

I also beat Dead Rising several times, and I agree that it fell just shy of being worth $60. The first half was amazing and the second half was terrible.

agreed, what defines a system for me to buy( I know its not for everyone so don't disagree with me because of that lol) is how many good rpgs will I get, sony has had a great history with this, and seeing the DS get final fantasy advance 2, ff 12 reveant wings, and dragon quest 9, the ds became a must buy. The 360 is starting to shed the image of not having Jrpgs, but blue dragon was a let down for me. So lost odyssey success is very important in me buying a 360 in the summer or not. I don't care who gets them, as long as there being made!!

Pretty good score, I'm hoping the story is good or else I'll probably spend like 5 hours with it and never play it again. Random battles should be done away with by now, I'll forgive that though if they offer more innovation than menu/line fighting. From the trailers and gameplay videos I saw they did look pretty dynamic but some of the enemy design was generic though :/

o man hadcore rpg fans love random battles. FF 12 did a great job with this, and I agree that rpg genre needs to find new ways for random battles, but sometimes I need to get my tradiontal fix like dragon quest 8, so i hope it doesn't go away all together.

I was never anticipating it, myself... Heavily influenced Japanese games just dosn't appeal to me. DMC games are just absurd and cheesy to me. Dante is one of the worst characters ever... I mean, he's bad... really bad. I can tolerate Snake cause he's very western in approach. All the final fantasy characters make me sick... All in all, no... Japanese based games are kinda blah to me.

I do like some... Dark cloud 2, Dragon Quest 8 was decent... and a few others... Dual Hearts was brilliant. Ape Escape. Things like that... Alundra, still the best action RPG to date, other than Dual Hearts.

VF5 gets the about the same score, which got 9's and higher in western reviews:

So I guess Lost Odyssey is about on par, which makes a real good game. If it's AAA over 90% in the end... Well

To be fair, which you never are, R&C has about 8 scores still not accounted for on either MET or Gameranking... So, piss n' a cat dish is what it ammounts to here. I know you're pulling at your nut hair to muster up some sort of debate but it's kinda flat when these plces you love to tout don't put up certain scores for games. Gametv still hasn't been accounted for R&C for instance. It sure was for every xbox 360 game, though. Your % based sites are trash, is basically what I'm telling you.
