Especially when people ask you how you got sick, and you have to tell them it's because you care too damn much about the Japanese hardware charts and went and freaked out upon seeing that not only had the PS3 beaten the Wii again, but that the PSP had nearly caught the DS. And that's not relying on new colours or a Final Fantasy game. Those are regular, old-fashioned sales".

It looks like Wii will reclaim the week to week sales lead next week unless the PS3 has a game coming out. The PS3 is $150 more, so you can't expect the lead to hold up once the PS3 has no releases. The Wii can sell itself because the system is so cheap. Looks like the DS is losing its touch. It's funny how people rag on Sony when there systems never start tapering off until after 5 years of prime time. We will see the 360 begin to taper off at two years it launched once.

That the ps3 still has a 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB sku's for sale in Japan on top of the 40GB sku. So the 39K or so PS3s sold is not made up entirely of 40GB models. Thus, anyone's argument that these numbers are false because the 40GB has not been out for more than 3 weeks isn't justified.

the week before the 40gb hit was the week xbox outsold ps3. Famitsu estimates were simply way off. Dynast warriors really helped with a nice sales boost but these games need to be droppin at a more regular pace before the ps3 can take off

The problem with the Wii is that with such an innovative console it needs extremely innovative games. What's happening right now is that a lot of companies are just releasing quick mini games to cash in quick. This can't last down the years because the gimmick will wear off and it's also bad because the last time this happened the Videogame crash happened. You'll only sell to so many casual gamers until you run out and casual gamers are just that, casual gamers and they don't buy a lot of games. Nintendo is going to start giving attention to their hardcore fans again because it's their hardcore fans who stuck through with them and got them through the N64 and Gamecube. You might sell 15 million in the first year but in the next few years can Nintendo keep it up when Sony starts pulling out their big guns? Sony outsold the Wii thanks to what was it? Dynasty Warriors or Genji? well if Sony can outsell the Wii thanks to a little title like that just imagine when MGS4 and FF13 comes out. The Wii has nothing to counter it. Even Mario Galaxies didn't hold a comfortable spot on the charts.

5.1 - You make some good points.

But Zack and Wiki has possibly the most innovative controls for the Wii yet, and no one is buying it. Is it because there aren't enough people interested in playing games besides Wii Sports? No. Look at SMG, MP3, RE 4, etc. Nintendo and third party developers aren't advertising. Any time you have alot of new customers, you need to make second, third, fourth contact, etc. Joe Blow who's enjoying Wii Sports and Mario Party with his friends each weekend has no idea that Zack and Wiki exists. And it's a shame.

I do think though that SMG will get alot of the casual and formerly non-gamers used to playing quote, unquote "Real Games". This will be huge for Nintendo. A year or two down the road, it will be Huge for Microsoft and Sony as well. But these guys need to start advertising. Nintendo is the only one of the three at this time that is in a position to make profit, and they've been doing so for a year. They need to do right and start promoting their products better. The first T.V. ad I've seen for Nintendo that wasn't on the internet I saw recently, and it was for SMG... Unbelieveable...

P.S. Contrary to popular belief, it is Super Smash Brawl that was and is the most anticipated game for the Wii. People all across the spectrum want that game badly, and not just Nintendo fans. It should do well alongside MGS4 and the others. About FFXIII, for some reason I don't think that we'll see that one next year unless it's like December. God of War 3 is going to sell ALOT of consoles though, among others.

The people who play Xbox 360 and PS3 are the "real gamers", I mean they are more likely to be the gaming enthusiasts. These are the people that will keep an eye on what is coming out by actively reading magazines or going on the net etc. But Nintendo have catered to a different market, the casual gamer market. These are the people that won't actively research what is coming out because gaming for them is just a casual thing.

Hence, advertising is a *must* to reach these people.

Both consoles sell more than that in one day in the U.S. especially the Wii. It's good that to some extent the PS3 is catching on in Japan, but these are not big numbers at all. I'm waiting to see how these consoles do in India and China. Those countries have HUGE populations. All 3 companies are going to do awesome this time around. The gaming market is exploding, and all three consoles have had their role in making it so. Hooray for us gamers! Good times should be here for a while. :)

PC seems to be big in China....I don't much about Console sales there it being a communist country and all.
I don't know if MS have gotten a name for its self there for games and I have no idea how a Japanese company like Sony would do in China.
the Chinese don't tend to like the Japanese very much after the 2nd world war.
As for India, it has a big population, but how many of these people can afford a console?

Who remembers a wise young sage named BathyJ who said a while back, after a while when PS3 found its legs, NA and Japan Xbox sales combined would be pretty similar the PS3 NA and Japan?, and when that happened who ever did the best in Europe would come out of top.

Now I'm not saying we're there yet, but its something to think about.

Coulda sworn PS3 was doing better than 360 in most of Europe. Either way they're not getting "Stomped" compared to the Wii yes it is but compared to the 360, the 360 had a head start. The PS3 with it's high price tag, controversial blu-ray player, pretty much no games for most of it's first year and a bit weaker online service has held it's own just fine.

I saw for the first time, a game advertised in a big way on the PS3 where I live. And it was GHIII which I will pick up today. Good times are coming to the PS3 as well!

That is, they've rigged it at a marketplace to let others play it. The line kinda grew from when I shopped my groceries and to when I went out again.

that is released on the PS3 in japan is like an exclusive because its not on the Wii and it wont sell on the 360! So multi plat games will do better in Japan on the PS3. So PS3 exclusives are exclusive and multi plats are exclusive in japan.

even if this surge dissipitates in a week or two, the mere fact that a higher priced machine with less japan-centric games (i.e. mario) beat the wii is quite telling. It shows japan wants the ps3 more and more, the lead the wii had has been dropping for weeks now anyway. quite a while ago the wii was winning 6-1.

when the major titles come out on the ps3 the wii wont stand a chance those who deny this aren't thinking properly. I'm not saying the wii will never come back; just that the current gaming landscape is going to change vastly, like nintendo changed it when they released the wii.
i don't see how nintendo are going to repel two major final fantasies.
I'm guessing squeenix will release FFXIII in japan in mid-probably late 08, hit japan and steal all the attention away from nintendo. Then in 09 Q1 maybe Q2 They do the same thing with FFXIIIversus.
If only nintendo made a console version of the gameboy experience. WHy is it that they've never done that? the gameboy games are great rpgs, wouldnt it make sense to eventually build that experience for your higher priced machine?

The PS3 is gaining momentum. 2nd or 3r week this is still good. If only they release a game like Ace Combat and their sales will go through the roof. Slash the price again soon and get out the heavy hitters and you will be on your way to PS2 level success.Europe is a even. Japan is starting to favor the PS3. Just NA that is the problem. On a plus though NA sales ratio between the x360 and PS3 has decreased in October and i am pretty sure it will decrease further for November putting the PS3 in a better position for next year when the big guns arrive. I am sure Square and Konami are encouraged by these sales figures. As for Capcom. I really do hope they would bring back Monster hunter to PS3 as an apology for Slapping their loyal PS fans in the face.

ok the last bit of my last post made no sense.

I meant to say "why haven't nintendo made a console version of the pokemon game experience"

in fact i should also extend that to "why don't they get squeenix to make console remakes of old final fantasies instead of having them all on the DS"
i've always found that bizzarre about nintendo. I think they purposely do it, just to have more people buying the pokemon games they make on handhelds. how does that make sense??! i remember buying pokemon dark gale or some crap on gamecube and not being able to get over how profoundly lame it was. I'm not falling for it again. i'm not getting a wii.

nintendo should also get rockstar to make an exclusive that appeals to the west. It wont cost an arm and a leg to produce(considering the cheap dev costs on wii) and that'll probably please a lot of gamers who aren't made of money.

BUt then looking at N intendo's current strategy and upcoming games, we know what we're getting from them. And it isn't enough.
They will completely lose their momentum in 08.

With games like Brawl, Endless Ocean, No More Heroes, Mario Kart, Mushroom Men, Okami, Monster Lab, Animal Crossing, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Dragon Quest Swords, and FF: CC comming out in '08...how are they going to lose momentum?

ps3 will do well from now on with gt5 coming in december and other big games as well but what will really help is iptv services that have now come out in korea etc
don,t forget the psp that shot up 3,000% on one model alone on amazon japan with seven in the top twenty yesterday i think it would be outselling the ds if more were available,with the remote feature of the psp this will enable them to record iptv when they want or watch it on the fly no other console has these features
other additions for asia is the psp camera,sat nav,and tv tuner which are great selling points
