Infinity Ward Asked About COD4 Sub-HD Resolution

That is called a PROGRESS.
it`s good, if you can`t tell difference between 600p upscaled to 720p and between native 720p, however, people are saying, that PGR3 and PGR4 looks different(600p vs 720p).

I definitely agree with you- Honestly, who cares if its 600p or 720p or whatever as long as it looks good and does. The visuals in COD4 are amazing, nothing to complain about. Lately everyone has been complaining about every little thing a game has to offer- Just play the freakin' game and enjoy it!

While I ultimately agree with you, some people have the right to care.

Some of us are fidelity freaks with giant TVs and projectors, and do have the eye to notice. With those factors, you truly can notice some games are a lot sharper than others, and seem to often logically lack in other parts of graphics.

Call of Duty 4 gets away with it because it obviously does look fantastic regardless, and more fluent frame rates is more important to the majority of gamers.

Ripten is looking for a cheap popularity?
I made a call and somebody told me that that guy from Beyond3d was a comlpelete phycho.
I used to read that guy’s researches. He is completely illiterate perosn, who invented his own “pixelscope” who counts similary colored pixels and makes his own stupid decisions. I bet he doesnt even understand simple principles of rendering and video output& No upscaling can be made from 600 pixels to fullscreen 1080 pixels without any noticable distortion of a picture. Everyone who knows anything on 3 D programming can say that that guy raves.
In case of Halo 3 everything is much more simple. There are cropping black strips on the screen that define the real resolution of the game for sure.

In regards to your comment about “cheap popularity” I don’t see how trying to provide our readers with information falls into that category.

If providing information and opinion is to be considered an attempt to gain cheap popularity, then your comment (as well as those of many others) which contain opinions and views would fall under the same category.

I agree in the sense that I was disappointed in the art direction that Halo 3 took. I love halo and i thought they should've went for an edgier look. However, I challenge anyone of you to show me a game that utilizes HDR lighting better than Halo 3. Hate the game if you want but the lighting in that game was brilliant.

uh...Uncharted?...UT3?...and Cod 4?

Halo 3 has great HDR also...but I don't think that it achieved any level of lighting realism that other games haven't...

Crysis owns this category by the way...so I am assuming you were talking strictly consoles...but I still don't think Halo 3 stands alone in terms of lighting models...

...was a mixed bag. At times it was stunning beautiful and other times it looked like the Halo 2.5 that people claimed it to be. Best Halo 3 moment was when the flood's ship crashed and dusk was setting in. There was a fine mist and there was an erie glow. Inside the floods ship also looked damned impressive.

However, overall COD4 is the best looking FPS on a console to date.

The question here is that probably IW droped the definition to make it runs on 60fps. Halo 3, if I remember right, runs on 30fps. Aside that, CoD4 have a way better AA, and better designers overall (the 3D models are way more complex, tha enviroments was better choosed and constructed, the colors are a bit darkers overall, that make it looks better too).

Still, I don't think Halo 3 looks garbage, this is medium to allright, just not awesome (specially if compared to Call Of Duty 4).

Halo 3 is nothing more then a simple shooter (in my opinion, not a good one), but M$´s advertising works, and people buy it, but it is a worst game.
If one guy say to you this game is awesome, you would think no it is not.

But in real this game sucks

I don't understand. if it was like you say, then people would buy it, realize it sucks and not play it anymore. that's what people do with crappy games.

halo 2 was still being played by hundreds of thousands up to halo 3's release. and halo 3 seems to be taking the same route.

you may not like it, that's your opinion and you're welcome to it. but to say it's only hype and is really a bad game in disguise is wrong.

Did Microsoft hype the original Halo?

After i owned 2 original PS1s due to faulty disk drives,2 PS2s due to overheating. i bought an XBOX with PGR and DOA2.Got HALO as a gift and once i started playing it i was hooked.There was no doubt the impact that game made.It truly made everyone know that Microsoft was here to stay.Everyone that owned that game can testify to that after all millions of fans cant be wrong.

Microsoft did what Sony or Nintendo would do and hyped the sequels(what is so wrong with that?).After all Halo 2 and Halo 3 all got great reviews.
- lovely story
-Great immersive soundtrack
-Great level design

Is the hype Microsoft is giving Halo any different from the hype that Sony is giving KILLZONE series,and don't forget the first KILLZONE was a very average game.

It just get lame when i see fan boys slating the game because its not on their system.lam happy COD4 is running on 600p,now the HALO 640p episode will end.

great reviews for a crap game, i would say graphics are too low for a next-gen titel, but most of the reviewers gaves 10/10 for graphics.

Take your time and think about it.

You can play 5 hours (single player) and many reviewer gave 10/10 for this game, but if it would come to ps3 they would say it is too short and would give it 6/10.

I got attacked the other day when I said the devs have figured out better upscaling for PS3.

But they continued to bash me saying PS3 can only eccept a game in its native resolution that matches the rez setting; set on the PS3.

HDTV's will read what ever Rez setting the divice thats hooked up to it is set at only changing by a default setting when recieving an anolog signal.

One thing i can say is that to me it looks good.The best lighting for any game on the 360.but overall GOW and COD 4 are better graphically.

1 thing i know is that games reviewed are usually compared to the expectations of the console and rivals.e.g Mario Galaxy soring 9.5 for graphics.If HALO3 were on PS3 it wont get such high scores for graphics because people are expecting more from the PS3."remember the trailers from E3 2005" thats what everyone is waiting to see.That was Sonys mistake with the PS3 not releasing games from day 1 that looked liked those videos that we were promised that will output at 120fps.What did Microsoft show alpha build games running on apple G5 computers.till today nobody knows the full potential of the 360.

Once those games start coming you will see your high scores.But anyway you cant say the reviews for R&C and Uncharted are not good.Those games have good scores and i personally love Uncharted even if i haven't played it.

This is what CoD 4 look like on my PC. A real 720p game, and no crappy low res textures like the 360. Depth of field isn't as overblown on the PC to hide low res tetures either. Another benefit on the PC is you can turn depth of field off in multiplayer so you can play with 100% clarity.

Just look at the texture quality in this screenshot. This is what you're missing.

This whole 60-fps excuse for the sub-HD resolution is ridiculous. I would MUCH, much rather have the full 720p resolution running at 30 fps than 600p (loss of over 300,000 pixels!!!) at 60 fps. I bought my HDTV for full HD resolution, period.

To my eyes, 60 fps doesn't even look that good anyway. Did you know that every single movie you see in the movie theater only runs at 24 fps? Yet they look fantastic. This may come off as absurd or illogical to some of you out there, but people in the film industry generally prefer 24 fps to 30 fps for recording movies. Truth.

People, why do you think everyone in the film industry prefers their movies to be shot at 24-fps rather than 30-fps or higher? Get this through your head, higher fps is NOT always better.

As long as a game runs at a constant 30-fps, and doesn't drop below that number, then it's perfectly fine. Preferable, even, to 60 fps.

Sorry but the console versions of cod 4 are NOT true 1080i/ p.

I own the ps3 version, and I just saw the pc version running at 1280 x 1024......... conclusion pc is soooooo much more crisper and sharper.

Like many of the console games out there that display at 1080i/p it just seems upconverted somehow

and I got so many disagrees when I said this about the ps3...

I guess alot of ppl are blinded by fanboyism.

The game didn't look flawless on my 1080p 46" Samsung. I am not a snob, but Jesus agrees this game looks better than GOD. Although, it is possible that Jesus is just getting back at GOD for the whole crucifixion thing. And if you like HALO 3, it looks pretty d*mn awesome too. We need to pray to spitefull Jesus, or ugly GOD, that the developers make every game 1080p or 720p native from here on out, not that it matters to people who just want great looking and playing games.

...anything above 525 pixels. While 720p is a standard used for broadcast television and movies, HD starts at resolutions above 525 lines. 480p and pal 525p are called EDTV or Enhanced Definition TV.

If you think Halo 3 has crap graphics, then you haven't played it. Shut up.

There's nothing wrong with 600p or 640p as long as the games look good. No one gave a flying f@ck about this sh!t in the last generation and now everyone claims to be experts on game programming and high definition. Will you fanboys, mainly PS3, please shut the f@ck up and start buying games for your god damn system. You claimed that R&C was the second coming of god and it still hasn't broken 300,000 copies. Yeah it looks good, got great reviews and everyone said it was the best PS3 offering at the time but no one is buying it.

300,000 pixels. That's how much resolution you lose when going from 720p to 600p. That's a HELL of a lot of pixels, no matter how you cut it. I don't know about you guys, but I didn't buy an HDTV big-screen to lose 300,000 dots worth of resolution! That's what's called a major rip-off.

Thank god most other games run at the full 720p. It's just that a few certain exceptions (Halo 3, COD4, PGR3) run at less than 720p. But those are rare exceptions, thankfully.
