PSU Review: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008... "Incredibly Addictive"
16
Despite flaws in its online and edit modes, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is incredibly addictive and still wins the title of football champion over FIFA, but only on penalties.
Pros:
* + Addictive gameplay
* + More licenses than ever before
* + Realistc player appearances
Cons:
* - Awful keepers
* - Inefficient and laggy online mode
* - Limited edit mode
7.5 / 10

1 - FIX to slowdowns on PS3
To get slowdowns disappear, just do this:
1) Install the game on PS3 trough "Install" on "System Settings"
2) Turn Commentaries OFF
3) Turn BGM Music OFF (0%)
4) Stadium Effects OFF
and then play again, you will see surprise.
It was tested on 3 PS3's, two europeans and one USA, both 60 GB models. No slowdowns at all, even playing under rain or crowded box, runs smooth like replays.
About the article above,
1) Keepers aren't awful, just depends on game level you choosed.
2) On-line lag is being worked out by Konami as they state when we go online.
3) Edit mode isn't limited at all, huge settings we can use for
editing and even more with PlayStation@EYE camera.
Regards,

Fifa 08 is a much better game, if you're a PES fanboy just give it a try for a couple of hours, you may not be able to go back to the arcade and terrible looks of PES. Konami screwed up this time.

8 - I got the demo from my UK account.
And the slowdown, and replay framerate is horrible. The stadium and crowd graphics are crap too. However, I wish they had polished this game because it plays amazingly. The feel of the ball and the animation is great. So addictive. It's just a shame about the slowdown, and the replay frame rate.

9 - Well -
I've been playing the demo for a few days now and it's a fine looking game in my opinion. It's lacking commentators, but I can live with that I suppose. The character models move fluidly and Ronalodo is a BEAST. Don't really see what all the fuss about, but maybe I'm missing something / not?

9.1 - Well
Sup Madden! (spAcetoilet)
You are kinda. We football fans are used to our PES being pretty smooth. The ps2 versions are a delight to play, with maybe the occasional hiccup but pretty steady. The replays of cool goals or chances are one of the funnest things, and on the PS2 they were butter. On this, it's almost like the frame rate drops by 50% + and the hiccups in the game frame rate are sometimes pretty awful. It plays great though, I just wish it wasn't full of bugs.
I hate to say it, being a Euro ex pat living stateside who LOVES Football, but with all the games coming out soon, I'm not getting this. I'll wait another year or so for Konami to get their sh1t together.

10 - @jromao .... why is it ...
that every ps3 multiplatform game needs some fixing in the settings to make it run smooth? that's sad.

I will give you the answer. I am not a dev, nor do I have a great understanding of the technicalities(spelling?), but i have played games for over 25years and have come to this conclusion:
The core code has been built on 360. Maybe it was then transferred to ps3. If it was built ground up on ps3 then it was built using 360 architecture as a rough blueprint. It is like having a jigsaw puzzle and just trimming and cutting the edges to fit into another puzzle. You might force the pieces in but it isnt going to be a very good picture. I dont know if having a multiplatform engine is ever going to work, although you look at something like the white engine or unreal3 and think it should.
EDIT: please, please tell me: WHAT IS YOUR AVATAR PICTURE???? I HAVE LOOKED AT IT ALL WAYS FOR OVER 4 MONTHS AND STILL CSNT WORK IT OUT

perhaps i could add a little bit more on your comments
keep in mind that PES 2008 is the 2nd PES in Xbox360 while the first on PS3, i would say there should be more difficulties in developing it for PS3...but well i don't really give a sh!t because i don't find so much problems in game as all these rumors...

11 - my humble opinion
I downloaded the demo off the uk store and wasnt impressed. Graphics were quite poor, framerate was sloppy at best, just felt too rushed. I have gone to the darkside this year and purchased fifa08 which, in my opinion is great this year. The core playability of pro evo is still there though, which is why I am not overly worried. I also remember reading an interview with the creator who said that pro evo 2009 would be THE version that he wanted to create. He couldnt say too much because 08 hadnt even been released, but I for one can remember thinking even then, that 2008 pro evo was just laying the foundations.

12 - hmm i don't play the demo but i got the game (PS3)
at first it had framerate issue, then, i installed the game and play it...hooray! no framerate issue at all in the stadiums i've played with
not tried it in rain or snow yet, but obviously its not as bad as some of the REVIEWS talking about...
2nd, with playstation eye (or any webcam), you can make yourself in game like a miracle..it looks just like you..so well the edit mode is king!
3rd...hey well if keeper is awful, they better go to UK and try to face shooters like Henry or Rooney, it is virtually impossible to block the shot if they shoot the ball good...keeper is mostly useful only when the shoots are blockable...
