Guitar Hero III Wii rocks harder than Xbox 360, PS3 at retailer

The Wii version of the new music title ranked as the No. 1 offering at Amazon's Computer & Video Games division, outranking the SKU for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 at No. 7 and Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 at No. 40.

All three versions include new music tracks, a wireless guitar, and online play options.

EA next month will release a new competitor to the music game sector called Rock Band. Rock Band, which includes peripherals to form an entire virtual band, will only be sold for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and not the Wii.

1 - It's funny....

If this article said "XBOX 360 slaughters Wii in Guitar Hero III sales" then we would have tons of messages saying stuff like "Teh Wii is for da Kidz!" or "See, teh Wii is not hardcore!" but since it's a positive news article about the Wii version selling more, there are no comments.

Interesting indeed.

Yeah. The thing I find most humorous is that even though the Wii version of GH3 sold more than 360 and PS3, they're not making Rock Band for the Wii. Of course, maybe that's WHY the Wii version sold more because some people are opting for Rock Band instead. Who knows...

If you can take advantage of the install base of all three systems, then you should do so.

If Guitar Hero III sells really well on the Wii, which I think it will, then I think they will go ahead and port it over to the Wii also. They would be stupid not to.

Rockband is coming to the Wii. It just won't be until late 2008. They are still trying to work out the DLC problem and also they need to revise the hardware to work with the Wiimote. Although it hasn't "officially" been announced, it is coming.

thats because people that own a ps3/360 know that gh3 is just more of the same, while rock band adds a whole butt load of feature and is made by the people that made gh1/2 so why would anyone that owns gh2 buy gh3? wii owners, well they are dumb, and they probably havent played gh1/2 yet so gh3 will seem new to them.

Wii owners buying this game are dumb because the same game (i.e. gh2) was available on the PS2? Would you care to explain your logic?

I've never owned a PSX or an XBox, so why would buying this game make me dumb? Last time I checked, the other builds of the game didn't run on the Wii. So if I was to buy this game (which I provably won't) it would indeed seem new to me, since I haven't played it before.

Some people man, if you have no constructive comments to make, why not just keep your thoughts to yourself?

I'll bet Mario has to beat Bowser in Mario Galaxy, but it will sell.

There are a whole heck of a lot of games that are more of the same, and people buy them an enjoy them. Heck, I'll bet even you own many games that are more of the same and loved at least some of them.

There seems to be alot less maturity amongst the fans of the so called "Adult" systems. (That relatively small portion of those fan bases that lives to talk crap.) If ever they comment it's negative, insulting, or just downright absurd. In any case, people have been waiting for this game for a long time. It should do really well on all systems.

It deserves to do well on all the systems.

I am waiting to see how Rock Band does, since it's a neat idea. I just hope the singing portions work well, since that could make or break the game.

We'll see. This holiday is too friggin packed with must own titles, that I don't see how anyone can afford all of them. I know I am having difficulty deciding which ones to buy.

3.3 - I breathed a sigh of relief

when they delayed SSBB.

Plus I think that Super Mario Galaxy will sell the system for the holiday. SSBB can help make sure the Wii stays selling through the annual video game drought season.

So far my must buy list is:

Trauma Center: New Blood
Nights: Journey of Dreams

PS3:

Ratchet & Clank: TOD
Uncharted

There are others, but I just can't afford them. :(

Guitar hero is one of those games that are hard to define...it's hard enough for the hardcore user but people aren't scared to do it which brings in the casual. It's a genius idea, I wish rock band's controllers worked with GH3, they look better lol.

I own all three systems. I don't care what system you prefer. The following are just thoughts and are not meant to show any bias towards one system or another.
*END OF DISCLAIMER*

Every store in my town (and some neighboring cities) has the 360 version sold out, and EVERY store has the PS3 version still in stock. And of course the WII version is sold out as well. Heck I didn't even know there was a wii version available until I saw a stack of them (all of them reserved) at one of the indie stores here.

Anyone else notice this where they live? I can go to wal-mart and buy the ps3 version, heck even some of the smaller department stores have it. But the 360 version is no where to be found.

I would pick up the ps3 version but I already have GHII (with guitar) for the 360. If I'm going to have 2 controllers might as well have them for the same system.

To get Eye of Judgment and GHIII and Eye was sold out in 7 stores and GHIII for the PS3 was out in 2 stores and out in 3 stores for the 360, Wii GHIII was selling well.

It's not really the originator on two fronts:
1) The developer (Harmonix) made GH1 and 2, but DIDN'T make 3. Harmonix split off and made Rock Band.
2) Guitar Freaks has been around in Asian arcades for quite some time. I played it and a drum game in 2001 (SIX YEARS AGO!!!) in South Korea, well before Guitar Hero came out. Harmonix basically just brought the idea to home consoles.

Being a 360 owner and a GHII & III owner I can definitely see why the Wii version is selling well. The Wii is a system 100% based on interactive peripherals. It makes perfect sense that a game as popular as the GH series would kick butt on the Wii. I think it will continue to be a good seller through X-mas as well. It is a big screw-up on Harmonix/MTV’s part by not putting Rock Band on the Wii day and date with PS2/PS3/360. For a developer that is pushing there interactive game as the top dog they are alienating a very big piece of the market for there game, not only in the States but abroad as well. That is why I think in the long run GH will still be king. They are now on EVERY system and 100% appeal to all markets and system owners. The only problem I see with the Wii version of GHIII is the lack of downloadable songs. Nintendo is still not ready for downloadable content. That is going to be a little nerve racking for the Wii owners.

I got to Target at like 5pm on Sunday looking to buy GH3 for the Wii and was lucky enough to get the 2nd-to-the-last one. There were about 4 left for the PS3 but I didn't look to see if there were any 360 versions left. Even more interesting was the fact that I saw about 6 Wii consoles in the glass case, and the last time I saw one available was 2 months ago at Walmart.

This is just Amazon, and not indicative of overall nationwide sales. It's a decent barometer of what's hot, but not definitive.

All I know is that the 360 and PS2 versions have been selling very, very well at my store, and the Wii and PS3 have seen good sales, too.

Any word on national numbers overall?

At Walmart. They had many 360 and PS2 versions of the game. I didn't ask about whether or not they carried the ones for the PS3 or Wii, but I didn't see any.

Bleh. At $90 for the Wii (for only one guitar) I definitely can't afford this. I wouldn't buy this game without getting a second guitar, and I *HAVE* to buy Mario Galaxy in a couple weeks. We'll see how the gods of the winter holidays treat me.

Glad to see it's selling well on the Wii though - especially after all the criticisms of Wii attache rates.

Um...I was actually not trying to start any sort of flame war. Considering I defend all three systems against silly arguments, I don't see why you saw my comment that way.

I was just remarking about the trend many people at this site seem to have, which is blasting the Wii when bad news for it shows up, and ignoring the possitive news it recieves.

I don't understand how my comment was meant as a way to sway any attacks against the 360. Considering Bioshock and soon Mass Effect are two games that completely blow away anything currently on the PS3, I would hardly say I'm a Sony fanboy. If anything I am a Nintendo fanboy, and have been since the early 80's.

In fact, it wasn't until tonight that I even owned a PS3, and it took Ratchet & Clank to get me to buy one...oh....and a price cut didn't hurt. Here is a bit of advice for short tempered teens, don't make assumptions on something that MIGHT sound like an attack....ask nicely what they meant and they'll be glad to explain further.

Anything that looks bad to their system is a personal attack.

That's actually why you see what you see with GH3's news. The fanboys would rather stay with what favors them.

I have benn called a 360 and PS3 fanboy within minutes of each other on the same thread, because I didn't post proaganda for either system. That's, unfortunately, just how it is.

What is worse than the blind following of one particular company's product though is the apparently mandatory accessory of having to bash the products of other companies. The underlying theme in the gaming world these days seems to be: "See! I chose right, and you chose wrong! Ha!" It's just ridiculous. And quite frankly, embarrassing.
