Guitar Hero III controllers suffering from defects

A number of internet forums are buzzing with complaints from gamers regarding faulty Guitar Hero III controllers. Some posts indicate that buttons will just flake out over a random period of time with the detachable neck of the controller being the expected culprit for the respective bug. If the problem is indeed with the detachable neck then you can bet this one will be pretty wide-spread and these aren't just isolated problems.

I've gotta say, played Sunday all day and played last night after work and haven't experienced a single problem with the guitar or the game. To the people considering not buying the new one, let me tell you that it rocks and you may be put at a disadvantage playing with the old one. The buttons seem tighter and the strum bar is less clicky and feels more stable. I played some GHII with it and finally beat songs I was stuck on. Might have been a mental thing, but it just feels more solid.

EDIT: Mine is the 360 version

9 - have the ps3 version

and no problems. i work with a crew of gh nerds, and 2 of them did get faulty guitars, 360 version. one sodered the contacts together and doesnt have anymore problems. im sooo horrible at this game :(

Some guy called Gamestop the other day with a faulty PS3 guitar.

My PS3 guitar's workin' just fine though.

I've heard some 360 complaints too. I haven't heard any PS2 or Wii complaints yet...but...honestly, who bought it for the Wii??? Haha...that version looks TERRIBLE!!!

When you play the game on a big TV, the polished graphics on the 360/PS3 are actually very nice. Guitar Hero 1/2 look pretty nasty on my TV. Not even the backgrounds and characters, but the fretboard too.

12 - I played the GH3 demo last night on 360.

I loved it! What I want to know is: Is there a difficulty setting in the game where you have to, not only hold down the right buttons, but also have to hit the right string, just like a real guitar? And is there some sort of freestyle option? Thnx.

Could this be another reason for me to wait for a 3rd party guitar? actually can you even buy the PS3 GH3 without a guitar considering its the first for this generation and the old PS2 ones aren't USB?

No, you have to purchase the bundle. The additional third-party guitars should be out next month.

As for these issues, the one I bought for PS3 had some issues in the beginning and it was due to the detachable neck. I figured that one out quick. All I had to do was take the neck off and put it back on a few times (ever time a button wouldn't work) and probably three or four times of doing that and I haven't had a problem since.

360 version and no problems yet. I was going to just pick the game up as I have GHII but caved in and I dig the new guitar controller. No cables, and personally while obviously folks ARE having problems, to me it feels much more sturdy than the last. I like the idea of the removable faceplates as well. Good game though, a ton of fun so far just like the last.

17 - I got my PS3 version hone the other day...

Only to find the X button on the Les Paul did not work at all. Bummed me out, but they agreed if I just brought the guitar back down only, they would switch it out. Which they did. It is cheaply made but hey, great game. I can't even beat Raining Blood on medium! :(

18 - update.....

i loaded up ghIII on the ps3 today.....yellow button is stuck on. tried resetting the connection the wireless connection, rebooting the system, wiggling the button, jamming on the button, nothing has worked. way to go on the cheap ass guitars Activision. all it needs now is a little lead in the paint....

19 - On my 2nd Guitar

First one out of the box had issues with the down stroke. Only about 3 out of every 10 would register.

Just brought in guitar and exchanged for new one and must say ... IT IS AWSOME.

Feels so much nicer than the explorer.

VERY COMPHY

Really glad I grabbed one.
