Assassin's Creed Loses PS3 Exclusivity

August 30, 2006 - When Ubisoft unveiled Assassin's Creed at E3 earlier this year, it was touted as a PlayStation 3 exclusive. And ever since then rumors have been flying around hinting that the game's "exclusivity" may be more temporary than Ubisoft initially let on. Whispers of an Xbox 360 port are nothing new, but yesterday came reports of a PC version as well.

1 - well, your partly right

remember this game wouldn't be a port to the XBOX 360 it would be a port to the ps3, and/or the PC may of been the original but at X05 this was announced and shown as Project Assasin, so not a port. In fact I'd say that the XBOX 360 version was the first version finished.
In fact I'd bet money that the XBOX version is/has been completed already, it's just waiting out the sony pay off game that they can't seem to uphold. Why you say, well b/c there still is no ps3.

at this very moment this is PS3 and PC i don see squat about a 360 version, there never was one, and to the first post, how could the 360 version be complete first when the game was first anounced at Tgs 05 and the ps conference 05 in june last year. I believe both the ps3 and PC version were being worked on simultaneously, reason being Ubi said at E3 06 that the game was runing on a PC emulating the ps3's hardware, so that puts this 360 AC to hum, i've known that this was gonna be for some time becaue the ps3 and pcs are like really close graphically so it's not a bad thing. and besides just like how alot of games are being developed for 360 and pc this just follows the trend of Ps3 and PC games being developed side by side. Just like UT07 PS3 and PC and u guys fiend for it just the same, u all have a pc get the game for pc but if you all want a console experience then get the game for PS3 or wait for ubi to announce the game for the 360, at this point no matter how u feel! (u desperate 360 fankids) (fiending for ps3 games that for a console u hate so much) it's PS3 and PC exclusive. live with it until told other wise

i am a 360 owner, but that is just a lame a$$ site. i like to hear juicy news too, but i want it to be true.

you might as well pick up the mags at the local grocery store. the ones that says aliens landed and they brought Elvis with them, and believe those.

You will livce to eat those words considering all the PS3 games that are hitting the cutting room floor and going 360 only for the next year due to Sony inability fto decide EXACTLY what the ps3 is. Is it a PC, Console, media center, BluRAY player, refridgerator, space heater, or whatever the hell they say it is this week. The DEAL is xbox360 easy to port from PC for. PS3 having issues due to still changing stuff. That is why it is taking a beating that is why EA reduced the titles it is making for the PS3 over the next 12 months and increased it to 360 and Wii. That is why SOny is losing badly to the DS in the handheld market. They try to be everything to everyone. MS built a gaming console it plays DVDS and play MP3s also. The ps2 did it right... gaming console... plays dvds. PS3 it is a wifi router, it is a PC, it is a Bluray player, it can cure cancer, play games over 15 years old. I fear that SOny went to far and lost its way on the road when they got to the top and ran away they got a big head and tried to appeal to the everyman but in the process the console they made is to expensive for that very everyman.

Assns Creed is basically saying "We don't think a PS3 exclusive deal can pay out anymore because Sony is not going to sell enough systems and Sony can't give us enough buckets of money."

It appears that MS is the only company that can convince others to go exclusive now because they have two things - Buckets of money and sold systems. Nice job MS.

What is really telling is that comment boards like this or others which would generally be ripe with Sony fanboys defending all things Sony are actually the opposite. Sony fans would buy empty cases at $600. It's pathetic.

Sony played this game with the PS2 and dreamcast, if I remember right. There was only one difference- the PS2 was actually better than the dreamcast. Mark my words, Sony will delay again. They are just feeding their fan sheep enough hope so they won't buy MS's so called Xbox 1.5. You Sony fans will forgive anything for your precious japan.

Gametime is a perfect example here. I used to be a Sony fan myself. Xbox 1 was hands down a superior product to the PS2, in my opinion. It oozed quality. The Xbox 360 is quality as well.

If it actually turns out that the PS3 does half of what is promised, I'll become a Sony fan. Based on Sony's track record of underdelivering, I think I'll be playing Halo 3 and still laughing at you guys who won't give up on Sony.

If Sony doesn't sell 2 million PS3s by Xmas due to production issues, cell issues, RSX issues, bluray issues, or any of the other issues it seems to be having or had (as Sony has yet to start mass production), Assassins Creed will be released on the 360 almost immediately after the PS3 version. Anyone who thinks this game won't be released on the 360, PC, and PS3 is kidding themselves. Sony can't afford nearly as many complete 3rd party exclusives anymore (especially with its dominance at an end, in addition to its lack of money), so it's fighting hard just for timed exclusives (except for its obvious Japanese developer support). Unfortunately, many developers don't have confidence that Sony can ship that many consoles this holiday season. Therefore, these developers would stand to lose a lot of money. What's the point? There is no loyalty in business. It's about sales and the dollar. If Sony isn't going to offer a profitable platform for developers for awhile, why wait? The 360 has already proven very lucrative for many developers and, with its outstanding fall game line-up, its fanbase will only continue to grow. It looks like it will be awhile until Sony builds a significant market share (before you whine fanboys, this is because of development/production problems not demand problems as there are plenty who want the PS3). Without significant market share or money, Sony doesn't have as much clout. The PS2's success only counts for so much. If Sony can't get PS3 units in the stores, PS2 market share means nothing for PS3 games. Sony has already halved its initial estimates for the first 6 months, and it is very worrisome that they have not started mass production yet.

Sony is loosing money every month, close to 600 million dollars every quarter from the 1st quarter of 2005 on. They just took a multimillion dollar loan from the bank and the investment for the PS3 doesn't help either. Every 10 million PS3's sold set them back 3 Billion dollars

3. XBOX 360 has 10 million users this Christmas. PS3 just starting to sell, in November (largest selling month before the holidays) they have Zero. What would you choose: a format, where the average attach rate is 4.5 games per unit with 10 million users (where we know of they spend money big time, GRAW or COD2 has been bought by more then 20% of all 360 owners. There has never been ONE other console with ANY game that did that) or a format which has yet no users, could have major delivery problems/delays and hold a non standard media drive without the exact details of the online service (which could be trash like the free PS2 online service)?

17 - X06 Trade Show and Tokyo Game Show will be GREAT for Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 version of Assassin's Creed will be officially announced at the Microsoft X06 Trade Show. This will make perfect sense, because the first time anyone ever saw this game was at the Microsoft X05 Trade Show, using the name Project Assassins.
Everyone on the planet knew that Assassins Creed would be released for the Xbox 360, PC, and Playstation 3, but Sony just paid for the exclusive announcement rights for a certain length of time. It wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft has now asked Ubisoft to wait for the X06 Trade Show before officially announcing it for the Xbox 360; that way, it will get a lot more publicity.
The overwhelming majority of industry analysts and journalists say that Microsoft won the 2006 E3, with Nintendo coming in a distant second, and Sony a very distant third. There is no doubt that Microsoft just won the Leipzig European Trade Show, especially with their announcements that the Xbox 360 will be the only place European gamers can play Soccer in High Definition with 5.1 digital sound for the next 12 months. If Microsoft can focus the Japanese "relaunch" of the Xbox 360 in that sort of way for the Tokyo Game Show, that would be GREAT!!! There is no doubt that Microsoft is saving the most surprises for the Microsoft X06 Trade Show, so that is the one I am looking forward to the most!!!

AC would definitely be released for 360, only maybe 1 year after it is released on ps3 with some exclusive content. like what happened with gta-3 and what is happening with fifa2007 on 360.
now a days 1 year exclusives works as good as a system exclusive for, because system sells due to that game (because many casual gamers dont wait for a game for 1 year) and in the end publisher is able to make money by releasing it on the other system after a while

Tekken 6
Final fantasy 13
MGS4
GT4 (HD)
Devil May Cry 4
Dynasty Warriors 6
Ridge racer 7
SOCOM 4
...and many more.

While the xbox 360 gets new original games like GOW, Mass Effect, Dead Rising, Prey, Alan Wake, Huxely, Bioshock, Too Human, and Saints Row. Granted, there are a few exceptions, such as Heavenly sword for the ps3 and Halo 3 for the 360, but all in all I'd rather have new, original games than an update to an old series.

P.S. I got that list from wikipedia, so feel free to contradict me if you think I'm wrong, but don't call me an idiot for stating my opinion.

u think halo 3 is an exception, but many think that Tekken 6, Final fantasy 13,MGS4, GT4 (HD), Devil May Cry 4 are also exceptions because if they were not any good publishers wont be pumping out 4th, 6th or 13th iterations of a perticular game. and except for GOW and other microsoft games, most would make there way across to ps3, these iterations with something extra or the next ones..

23 - Any Title, Any Platform

Any game currently being developed for any next gen system (or older system for that matter) could be ported to all the systems by the developer. Considering 99% of the world uses a Windows operating system on their pc it's a simple assumption that most games are born in a windows develpment environment. That means aside from various coding and tweaks for different consoles, the majority of the game's resources such as textures, sounds, engine, physics, artwork, etc. can be recycled easily to make the game run on any system. Even most PS3 games are being developed on a MS machine. Granted, Linux is stealing some thunder from MS, but it's not seeing the kind of widespread usage that windows is. Having said that, all that remains on the subject of exclusivity is whether the publisher decides to be "exclusive" or not. There is more money to be made by independent developers when they port to all available systems, and more consoles to sell when MS or Sony develop their own games to be exclusive. There will definitely be less exclusives on this generation than the last, at least once people figure out how to program for the cell and publishers stop cancelling ps3 games. With DX10 coming and XNA, MS is making PC/360 development get even closer to the same thing. In the end, it's all about making money by putting the game into as many hands as possible regardless of which controller (or mouse) thouse hands are holding.

Ubisoft today finally revealed that its anticipated game Assassin's Creed will be coming to the Xbox 360, as many had suspected. The announcement comes a day after the publisher admitted the game would be headed for the PC.

The news settles one of the hottest topics in the gaming world this year, as debate over whether or not the game was sneaking onto the Xbox 360 in addition to the PlayStation 3 raged. Though initially announced at Microsoft's X05 event as Project Assassins in 2005, the game was first shown off as Assassin's Creed and revealed as a PlayStation 3 game at E3 2006--an Xbox 360 and PC version was not mentioned.

Eyebrows were raised at other systems' exclusion, especially since it was originally revealed as an Xbox 360 title. Rumors ran amok all year, as a few believed the E3 demo was being shown on Xbox 360 dev kits, some sites said a loose-lipped Ubi rep confirmed a 360 version at France's Interactive Digital Entertainment Festival, and another Web site posted a preview of the Xbox 360 version.
