It's coming: Bungie is getting the Halo 3 ban-hammer ready
19
If you're a cheater or an online trouble-maker in Halo 3, Bungie has it in for you. Last Friday they posted a message-more of a threat, really-saying that they know who you are, and they're not happy.

5 - I don't really see
how they are going to fix this. The main way people cheat is by "bridging". They basicly create a closed network that "poisons" or blocks out all of the other IP's that are faster than theirs except for the Xbox LIVE IP's. On Xbox LIVE Host is determined by whoever has "the fastest" connection.
This way "The Bridger" always gets host. And having "host" is what enables the cheating. Basicly as long as someone has access to Xbox lives IP's this problem will never be resolved. Unless they make some sort of rolling IP where the numbers are changed every so often.
I learned how to bridge a long time ago in Halo 2. Not to cheat, but so I wouldn't have to play against cheaters. It isn't a big secret in Halo 2 that when you get to level 32 everyone started to cheat.
If they find a way to boot people out that are tampering with the network then I applaud Bungie. Halo will be better for everyone.

It's always nice to see that a dev cares enough about their game and the people playing it to get rid of the cheaters.

Yes. If your Halo 2 skill level was over 32, 99% of you cheated.
So far this game has been great online. Haven't really experienced much tampering or lag. But I guess it's happening. I don't know how to bridge or anything, but it would be great if they could find a way to punish those who are doing it.
Skill levels in this game are great though. Level 50 (something I thought I'd never obtain) is something I know I can realistically get to, and pretty soon.

7.2 - I don't know if level 32 is good or not
THe highest rank I ever got in Halo 2 was a 35 without getting host. At that point every match someone was cheating. Whether you won or not was determined by if the cheater was on your team or not. Almost all people over level 43 in Halo 2 cheated.
The highest rank I ever got when bridging for host was level 41 in Team Slayer. After that I couldn't even find a match anymore. What people would do is cheat their rank up to level 50 and just play unranked custom games all the time.

I have two local friends who were level 32 BRIEFLY. I guarantee they didn't cheat. Wouldn't even know how.
But still, When I would play with on a team I would see a LOT of BS from the other players. Ruined the experience completely for me. Being a lowly 19 or whatever (hell I forgot, but I never made it to 20), and getting my ass handed to me all the time just sucks. And it't not so much that they just outplayed me THAT much, but that there was a LOT of bs.

8 - Who is too famous?
What does Bungie mean when they say, "There are those of you doing things you shouldn’t be in Halo 3. Some of you have gotten a little too famous for your own good." I'm assuming there may be videos on YouTube.com or something, but I just wanted to know if there were any "famous" cheaters that aren't so bright?

9 - the only thing I have seen are players
that are playing better than me. Except for the occassional whinning about wanting to get the Lasar Achievement, I really haven't seen any trends that looked like glitching or cheating. Maybe it's changed in the 9 days I haven't been online with Halo.

11 - Seeing as how they got rid of Bridgers in the Halo 2 1.5 update.
I think they can do it in Halo 3 aswell.
Anyway, the highest rank I got in Halo 2 was a 31 for literally an hour, untill I lost it because of cheaters.
In Halo 3 I am now a 40 in Double Team, I could in theory become a 50 if I play good enough in the next month... unless if Bungie resets the freaking ranks.
