Crysis could be possible on Xbox 360

The main arguement about Crysis not coming to the consoles 360 and PS3 is because on the technical part wouldn't be possible, because DX10 is missing.

There could be a change for the XBOX 360. ATI recently announced that on the 360 it's possible to install DX10 by an update. It could mean a lot of DX10 games coming to 360, especially with XNA and cross over programming. It looks like a clear case when Microsoft is talking about Live anywhere. If new games will use DX10, it would be more then likely that the 360 runs DX10.

Crysis is one of these games. In this video interview the president of Crytek is telling at this moment, in this form it won't be released on other platforms then PC also because it would be technically hard and scattered resources, but with the new information from ATI and DX10 for XBOX 360 that could all change.

That's just like saying no DirectX game can be on PS3 at all... because it uses OpenGL.

Well see it like this. Most games use DX10 and will start to use it, simply because it is the new standard on PC and has been the major one for the last years.

With XNA on PC/360, Live Anywhere on PC/360, DX10 on PC/360, exclusives from PC to 360 after some time and exclusives from 360 to PC after some time it is fair enough to say PS3 will be left out or gets the leftovers and ports from PC/360.

It's the law of the big numbers in this case

Yup it's just clear, MS has the best cards for the best gaming system. Sony has a maybe good videoplayer on it's hands IF BR becomes standard. 360 can always watch how the battle grows. HD-DVD addon or if HD-DVD fails a BR addon will be available in the far future.

That's how the lines are drawn. The 360 just got the choice on possible next gen video, but not nescessary for games. For games it got the most optimal mix of hardware, software and developping environments hands down

exactly, but just look at the history. Far Cry was first only on PC, then Crytek got it to the original XBOX and finally 360.

With DirectX 10 and XNA it's the first time around the tools are there to get it better done then just a port. So I really just expect Crysis to pop up on 360 in some time.

Furthermore ofcourse it's a good thing for any other DX10 game and crossover for Live Anywhere on PC/360

This isn't exactly anything new, they stated earlier that x360 was partitialy DX10 compatible, if not entirely. And as a sidenote, DC rider 360's post contained 29 question marks and 54 exclamation marks. So he either has a lot of questions and yells even more. Well actually with the new Live Anywhere that MS will support heavily, XNA, DX10 the fine programming environment of the 360 I expect a very close program on PC/360 and games in general. It has as well very positive points for the producer (target audience easy bigger with less investments by DX10/XNA and so on). For Crysis the guy is just saying: at this point in time we're focussing on PC. At this point in time, just to get it right. We'll see Crysis on 360 in about 1 to 2 years for sure

With "realistic looking" PC games that come along the 360 could trade off bandwidth from HD to get the lighting range and textures you see in Crysis. Whereas Sci-Fi/Fantasy games along the lines on Panzer Dragoon and Halo should be in HD (they're not going for photo-realism). But Microsoft and PS3 will probably hold developers to HD for a few years (to not get criticised by the competition). I'll be more impressed by the console which decides to break the HD rule to release at least a few photo-realistic games.

It`s already a fact that DX10 is coming to the 360! That was said long ago already! The upside is this just spells for more problems for Fony!! Dev`s are using DX10 now for most of the games out there! It`s gonna be pc standard to use DX10 and we all know who is pc friendly here,>XBOX 360!!! The only way Fony can survive is to take a huge hit that they can`t afford to take on the POS3!! They can`t cuz of the likes of other investors that want their monies and aren`t keen to hearing I`ll pay you back when I make money from the software that`s even suspect in itself in the blu-ray!!! Investors are NOT gonna take that gamble especially after seeing what happened to the UMD for the POSP!! I never got that one though! Why would someone buy movies they already have "OR" new ones that can only be played on the POSP???!!! Fony is soooooo dumb on that one!! ...but didn't Crytek just recently post a job listing for a programmer to work on an unannounced PS3 project who had knowledge/experience with Cell, OpenGL and CryEngine 2? this to me would seem to suggest that the company is also at work on a PS3 game. a Crysis port to 360 would be cool, but there's just as much evidence that Crytek will support the PS3 as the 360

Since ATI has said that DX10 can be installed on the Xbox 360 through an update, does this mean that it can be done on any DX9 based PC card? Or, is installing the software for DX10 and built in support for DX10 in the hardware design a completely different thing? This is an honest question, by the way. :)

The only thing is that working in the same environment with DX10 and XNA faster and better combinations are possible between PC/360. More likely then anything else I guess.

its because they are all one in the same. I read somewhere that the guys from directX are in a sense responsible for the Xbox project. They proposed the idea to microsoft and the rest was history. So no suprise the names all sound the same. :tops:

Some games won't come to PC. Or with a limited time frame.

As Halo 1 came to PC a few years after launch on the original XBOX. Now Halo 2 will be shown a bit in Leipzig for PC, years after launch.

Probably Halo 3 will come to PC also, some years later.

Reason to buy a 360? yeah, to play the new exclusives, right here, right now. Not in 2 or 3 years from now. Anything else then nice controllers? Yeah easy gaming. I can't imagine that comfortable and driverfree/hardwarebased gaming on PC. Hoping the framerate on your card will be high enough with the newest game.

For ease, being able to get your Forza 2 car tweaked with Live Anywhere on your mobile phone, or just on the PC while working. Playing that same car you designed the afternoon, play it at night on the 360. Play against friends with games that got on the PC already but don't have a 360 already.

Probably one has to pay for Live Anywhere which XBL also will be a part of (get the same name in a while I guess).

Yes you pay for premium online services. Yes, that will also be the case with the PS3 online network even they're saying nothing about it at this time. Yep maybe it won't be a flat fee, so they call it free, but when you sign up a game, you'll pay per game. In the end, if you play more games, you pay more. Pay what you use will probably the concept and it'll be much more expensive as a flat free subscription as XBL.

The point of getting a 360 is you get a high end gaming system for 400 dollars/euros. For 600 dollar/euro PS3 you get a videoplayer. For 2.000 dollar/euro you get a high end pc that can do desktop at first and good games, but always have to upgrade too fast too soon for too much money. The GPU alone is the cost of a 360.

That's why a 360 is the best option. DX10, XNA, gaming on same level as a 2.000 dollar/euro PC but then from your couch with nice WiFi controllers, not behind your working desk. A keyboard and a mouse are produced to work on not to game with.

32 - Putting Crysis on PS3 shouldn't be a problem

since converting the engine from DirectX to OpenGL doens't take very long and apparently results in no difference in visual quality. Unreal Tournament 07 is Direct X based in the PC version, but OpenGL 2.0 ES-based on the PS3. Epic's lead programmer, Tim Sweeny, stated in an interview that not only did it only take two months to build the PS3 engine but that changing the system from Direct X to Open GL was fairly easy. Best of all, the game looks just as amazing on the PS3. The only difference is that it runs faster on a lot faster on PS3 than on high-end PCs.

If EPIC games can do it, Crytek can definitely pull it off.

In an action to throw away recent rumors about Xbox 360 recieving an upgrade to its DirectX software, ATI has made the following statements:

"Xbox360 cannot run DX10. The Xbox360 has unique features including memory export that can enable DX10-class functionality such as stream-out. From what we're hearing, Crysis will support DX9 with some sort of use for DX10 features. It's likely that those DX10 visuals can be replicated on the Xbox360, but it can't be properly called DX10."
