FASA Studio Closes Doors
30
The rumors were true. Shadowrun developer FASA Studio has indeed closed its doors with studio manager Mitch Gitelman confirming the news on the official Shadowrun community forums today. According to Gitelman, today was the last official day of work for employees still at FASA, with many former FASA team members moving on to other positions at Microsoft Game Studios.
Rumors about the studio's closure surfaced in March of this year, well before Shadowrun shipped, when a former FASA worker wrote of an employee exodus and that decision makers would "cut the tumor that is FASA Studio from the body of Microsoft."

1 - FASA Studio is no more
The creator of BattleTech, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, and Crimson Skies, and developer of MechWarrior, MechCommander, MechAssault, and Crimson Skies video games.
Is no more.

1.1 - no.
Microsoft still owns the intuectual property from Fasa studios. If I by the rights to the studio I buy the rights to the games. It just means that the team behind the games are gone. So crimson skies can still be made, it would just be from a different dev, like how ensamble is making a halo game.

Acclaim didn't really close down. They shifted from Console games to sh**ty online cpu games. They are making some profit, but not as much from NBA Jam or the first two Turok's.
Too bad they milked thier games for all they were worth and added absolutely no innovation. (sounds like EA game huh?)
Turok Evolution, Vexx, shadowman 2 were horrible.
I was big fan of turok too.

A sad day indeed, for gamers of all stripes. FASA studio is responsible for some of the most loved games and IPs ever to come out of North America and it is sad to see them close their doors, the days of the Mechwarrior series are still some of my most memorable gaming moments and anyone who is a fan of the series can testify to this.
Best of luck to Mitch and all the guys at FASA at their new jobs and I hope that they continue to make great games.

I really hate to see this happen. As mentioned above Fasa had some great games. Even Shadowrun was fun as hell despite the bad press and horrible starting price point.
Very sad indeed.

Terrible and sad news.
I have to say that there is a chunk of the gaming community that needs to think about this. How many people out there had a hacked xbox and just downloaded games? Maybe if this studio had better sales they could have afforded to keep their team on the leading edge or could have pushed out more polished titles and ultimately still be bringing us games.
This is a very real side effect of the 'hacking' culture.

Shadowrun sucked and I admit I only played the beta. I hated the beta. You shouldn't F with a rpg game and try to become the next halo. Imagine Street fighter becoming a car racing game...wtf.

18 - I know I am in the minority,
but I really enjoyed Shadowrun.(Yes, I did play the P&P/SNES/Genesis versions) True, nothing compares to the rpg, but as a basic FPS I loved the magic and weapons combination. Every round was different, even though the gameplay options and maps were limited. I wish more people would have given it a chance. They should have a small group of the Bungie guys put together some maps for Shadowrun, now that H3 is done. I bet that would put some life into it! Wishful thinking... Maybe MS will turn it over to Bioware for a real rpg masterpiece that could be done with this setting!.. More wishful thinking!.. haha..

Yeah I enjoyed Shadowrun too and I still play it, there is quite a decent community of Australian and New Zealander players who play regularly and it is a game that has far more positives than negatives, sure there's only a few maps and game types but still the combat is deep and it definitely is a thinking mans shooter. Also of note is that Microsoft sold Shadowrun relatively cheap in our countries so it wasn't really a ripoff relative to what people were paying in the US.
I reckon if the game wasn't called Shadowrun it probably would have been received better critically, as there are people out there who have done nothing but slander this game because it wasn't an RPG.

21 - Should've stuck to Mechwarrior!
The Mechwarrior games were the bread and butter of this studio. The day they stopped making games for that franchise is the day they signed their own pink slips.
