I read another story on this site about the racism in Xbox's Halo 2 online where UFC champion Quentin 'Rampage' Jackson got so tired of racists comments that he stopped playing the game forever.

This is not something that applies only to the Xbox and Xbox 360 online games. I hear racist comments all the time on PS3's Warhawk even though it's not directed to any player but more of a shout of anger by someone who just got killed.

People need to grow up and start living in the 21st Century.

Its a sad world, I blame it on parents or whoever brought them up like this, Gaming is suppose to take you away from your problems not follow you, but some people just dont understand. I guess offline gaming is where its most peaceful.

Yeah, it is pretty bad at times. I can tolerate the expletives but the racist comments are just unacceptable. I recently changed my asian sound ing gamertag because I was receiving racial slurs thrown at me. I've even received negative gamer reviews for no apparent reason.

Yeah, i have to agree with this. I never was one for online gaming until the next gen systems came along. The swearing and the abuse I hear is annoying. That's why I reckon it's best to play offline most of the time or I don't put in my headset unless it's with friends I know. Games just ain't as fun when dealing with this nonsense you definitely don't want to put up with it once you've spent £60 on a bloody game!

That's the problem with online, you allow all the pricks you wanted to avoid across the world into your very own living room.

Well, I for one hear racist sh!t all the time. I'v grown up with black people all my life, as well as every other race, but now I'm living in West Virginia and goin to a racist school where almost everyone is white and have like 5 black kids that get picked on just cause of their skin color.. and then when I get online I have to hear all this BS some more.. some people just need to grow up..

sorry i know i shouldnt write this but i think ill be picking up my 360 finaly on thursday. i was wondering is 20 gigs enough i have 500 on my ps3 but its filling up fast. then if you decide to upgrade to the 120 gig harddrive later can you transfer all your stuff over or maybe use both. then does the 36o support external drives. Any advice on the 360 would be useful. i probly have a lot more questions but kinda hiding out at work gotta make it quick.

@2paclives - we had a bomb drill at my school Friday and some of the students knew it was gonna happen so a few brought some confederate flags to school and put them on their trucks to piss of the few black kids at our school..

It's sad that we still have to deal with this today. I'm black and I have friends of all races. When I get mad I don't think of racial slurs. There are too many great words to use on people other than a racial slurs.

Racism is far more prevalent now than it's ever been...not the other way around. You'ved all been warned.
A lot of us out there hate it, but we don't realize how much it's been ingrained in our brains since we were born.
Just like religion, we'ved all been indoctrinated to it. It's all up to us to lessen the level of hate, but to remove it totally from our system, I think not...

yea most of the ppl racing in forza 2 in English are Assholes. most of them don't even want to race, they just want a destruction derby or just drag race. even when u actually get ciruit races most of them are Aholes. there'll always be that one d*ckhead that would go the opposite way trying to hit sum one head on.

I'm glad I got all 1000 achievement points in Forza 2. I really disliked playing the damn thing online. Most of the users were full of rubbish AND all of sudden, Forza turned into a Nascar event. Most users seem to select the Nissan Speedway and whip out their U999 class GT40s.

Just imagine what people of African descent go thru on XBL. It's 10x worse than you. The 'N' word is probably the most used form of trash talking on XBL. They say it out of anger, they say it out of hate, they say it out of cowardice, they say it out of fun.

And it's generally YOUNG white Americans who trash other races upon either hearing them or guessing based on gamertag. But sometimes I hear them call another white person the 'N' word to insult him more exrtemely.

It's a shame that over the next few years, as online gaming gets even bigger, developers and companies like MS and Sony are going to have to invest time and money developing more and more robust tools to eliminate these racist idiots from our online communities.

It's not enough that we can mute, provide negative feedback, or kick these people from our games, we need a system where people are banned from online gaming - and that means the console manufacturers, server providers and developers have to step up to the plate.

Unfortunately it is not in the interests of Sony/MS etc to ban these people for two reasons.

1, It adds a layer of responsibility on the companies which they do not want to be burdened with. If MS/Sony or developers have to act as a police force it costs them resources and money, and puts them in a morally responsible position which is much easier to pass on to the online communities. It's easy for them to say 'We provide the tools to stop individuals playing with people they don't like', but it's just pushing the problem person on to others.

2, The racists idiots buy the companies products and pay for the services - ban a racist idiot and he may not buy any more products, or may defect to a competitor - Sony/MS are not going to turn down that money.

Unfortunately, in my experience of online gaming, American gamers are by and large the worst communities to play with/against in terms of whining/racism/sexism and immaturity. If I had a choice of excluding gamers by geographical location I'd certainly not play against US gamers. (Sad to say).

maybe people from other races should work on their own racism. As a father of children that "used" to go to a prodominently ethnic school (60% is made up of Black and Mexican while almost split between asian and white -we have a very large korean community). My boys got heckled all the time for being white. What to my oldest sons surprise when he got punished for any racist remark cause he felt he had to fight back.

You can't fight racism with racism. I have heard the crap coming from the opposite side as well. Funny how despite not being racist, teach and enforce it in my home, that I and my kids are slap together with all them "white" racist pigs.

That said be nice if Sony did add more options to filter these people out. Microsoft's method ain't bad but it could use some more polish.
