No VF5 360 for Japan?
32
Eurogamer has learned that the Xbox 360 version of Virtua Fighter 5 may not be released in Japan due to the console's low installed base.
Speaking at last week's Leipzig Games Convention, lead designer Tohru Murayama said "it's true" that 360 has not proved too popular with Japanese gamers.
He continued, "We haven't decided if we'll release Virtua Fighter 5 [on 360] in Japan because of that.

1 - well...
aint much point selling VF5 in japan, microsoft should concentrate on trying to actually sell a few consoles there first!
edit: of course its better than xbox, when that was released it was competting with the ps2, the 360 had nothing except the ps2 also but still massively underperformmed for what MS where hoping!

Well, VF5 on PS3 didn't sell that much in Japan and considering 360's sales in Japan, it's a logical choice.

360 games have proven to be very good sellers in Japan like Gears of War, Blue Dragon, Dead Rising!
I am sure this would be a great addition and it since Dead Or Alive is out in Japan and is online playable I think SEGA are being their stupid self as usual especially with the amount of rubbish games they have released thus far which have all been flops.

nice MS logic there! im the only person in my street with an xbox and rainbow 6, wow, that means a 100% of the install base, amazing!
edit: i wasnt suggesting that i live in japan, just laughing at you poor atempt at proving your point with 'fact'! stats can be used for and against any arguement, you just pick the ones that suits you!
and mate "P.S: it is still a valid point, 360 has 430 million 360's sold so far in japan" lol this another one of your 'facts'? that makes like 2 and a half consoles per person, ps2 has largest intall base of just over 100 million and that really is FACT!

are you crazy, even the ps2 worldwide did not sell 430 MILLIONS, only 120 MILLIONS consoles, you mean 360 sold 430 THOUSANDS or 430000 consolles in Japan, don't try to write bullshit and false dates, think beforse writing and read after writing something.

spin away xbots, you aholes are so busy predicting and proclaiming the doom of a console that has won the last two generations by a landslide that you don't notice your crapbox is crashing and burning miserably in one of the biggest game markets in the world.
Add to that Playstations huge popularity around the rest of the world and many will realize that xbots should have their heads examined when they say PS3 is doomed.

you are a very ignorant person i see, Japan is very needed, even if it's only the third largest videogame market it's the home of the videogames industry and of the most popular and good videogame companies like Square-Enix, Konami, Capcom, Namco-Bandai, Nintendo, Sony, etc, that makes the best games and franchises of the world (in my opinion) Like FF, KH, MGS, PES, Resident Evil, DMC, Megaman, Tekken, SoulCalibur, Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, GoW, Gran Turismo, Xenosaga, Silent Hill, etc, etc, i don't know all of them. So for these companies Japan is their home market and it's very important, you are talking again crap.

5 - Anyone who wanted this game...
Anyone who wanted this game in Japan will have got it for the PS3 by now. Fair enough if they were released at the same time, but its seems kinda pointess now.
btw the PS3 version did sell pretty well; its was even at no #1 in the Japanese charts at one point. This was 7 months after it was released in Japanese arcades also.

6 - 360 Regions
I don't own a 360 but I'm a fighting game fan (not so much VF but whatever...) Is it true that some games on the 360 aren't region locked? If that is the case, there may be a possibility the US or UK version would play in Japan if they really wanted it?

The 360 owners would buy the game, but the number of owners is next to nothing, so that would be a waste of money to just put the game in that region since they would never make enough money to justify that. And considering VF5 already came on the PS3 it won't sell. It doesn't really matter if it's online because people in Japan play the game offline and you can only do a fighting game justice offline in this day in age.

11 - Its not that great a game anyway.
I have it for the PS3 and I think I played it like 4 times. But that sucks for the 360. Do you realize at the pace the 360 sells in Japan it will be about 4 years to reach a million units. Thats just awful. LOL!

13 - It's a shame for the 360 fans in Japan (there has to be a few)
SEGA should release a limited number of copies for Japan. This way at least some people get to play it online. I wouldn't mind facing some Japanese opponents online.

It is a very tough situation for MS in Japan. In order to sell consoles they need games, however publishers choose not to release their games in Japan, but only in US, and EU. All this does is shaft all the current 360 owners in Japan.
Also, there are alot of games that get released only in Japan, MS needs some of these but publishers will not want to release on a console with such a low install base. So unfortunately for MS, this is a huge problem.

You make some good points. My only concern is whether or not the 360 can keep Japan dev support. Japanese devs have some real gems that would suck if the 360 would miss out on because of a low install base in Japan.

Well, I don't care... because I don't live in Japan ! I mean the Japanese traditionally only support Asian products anyway & infringe on US & European copyrights daily ! So,... Who Cares ?
If the Japanese want to stick to their Wii's, the so be it !

Franky, MS sorta needs this game in a way. They do need more games to sell the 360 and this game can help. I know its not an AAA title but its something for the 360, the 360 in Japan is pretty much on life suport to say the least.
