When signing into Xbox Live you will be prompted for a dashboard update. But what features will it add?

"The only thing this minor release will do is prepare your Xbox 360 for the wireless guitars that are being released in a few months.

Why does everything have to be a conspiracy? Microsoft doesn't lie when they add security patches to Windows, it says it right on the screen. I'm not sure why they would keep adding a security patch to the 360 a secret. That would be a good thing, it lets everyone know that they looking for vulnerabilities and fixing them.

The messenger kit is out next month. It could also add more support for that. There is a rumor that MS is working on a wiimote type of controler so it could add support for that as well. (No not the scene it remote)

just maybe, it's only for the wireless guitar? I agree with AngryTypingGuy, not everything has to get over analyzed. PS360WII is right, too. Little updates here and there are a good thing. Perhaps this is exactly what they say it is.

7.1 - update was fast and easy.....took all of a minute.

It certainly was an internal update as it changed nothing cosmetic. I am with you guys on it probably is for new wireless devices. Don't forget, not only is there the wireless guitars...but supposedly Ace Combat is going to offer a flight stick on release. I haven't heard if its supposed to be wireless or not but I am hoping that is the case.

OH and just to debunk one other rumor. I saw a rumor the update was making the 360 not read the disc in the tray...not true. When you first update, yes it will just say open tray instead of the name of the disc that might be in there. But once you put a disc in..it all goes back to working the way it has been.

I updated my dashboard today and after my console restarted I got the red ring of death. Hopefully I'll have it back in about 6 weeks in time for halo 3.

yeah i updated my 360

the first time nothing happens and made me update again (only 30 secs tho)

and then my 360 restarted itself...which has never happened in the 18 months iv had it

they updates almost always require a reboot. ive had a 360 since launch (not the same one mind you... sigh) and as far as i can remember all the dashboard updates rebooted my 360.
