Oblivion flies in Japan

After Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata, it seems another 360 RPG, Oblivion, is causing a bit of a stir in Japan.

Spike, who had secured the Japanese publishing rights to Bethesda's RPG epic, has announced that some 35,000 copies of Oblivion were sold when it went on sale yesterday – which considering how roundly unpopular the 360 is over there, isn't too shabby.

1.) Selling to a retailer is considered sold, by the publishers perspective.

2.)It's hard to get retailers to stock the item unless there is demand for it. (Especially for the xbox360 in Japan). So it's pretty safe to assume that those numbers are pretty high for a 360 title in Japan.

3.)Most of these 360 games are selling through online retailers (i.e. Amazon.co.jp) which are more accurate estimates of shipped:sale ratios.

Impressive sales, yes, but MS isn't making any money in Japan much less they aren't even making money anywhere else, so in Japan they're losing probably a lot more. They might as well pull out. The only way 360 will sell is if they get all the major RPGS exclusively which isn't happening.

with the Xbox 360 version. There are many achievements to be had that help get the most out of the game. You gotta LOVE them achievements, you get your moneys worth!

They're still playing more DS, PSP, and PS2 RPGs than next gen ones. I think Oblivion was ranked #4 on Amazon Japan yesterday, and the Hot Shots golf PS3 bundle was close to the bottom of the top 50...I couldn't believe it lol, but good for Oblivion

Oblivion was amazing, i dont like most RPGS(like final fantasy and co.), Oblivion got me cracked out tho, definitely try it out. Two Worlds sounds really good, im not sure what else the Dev has made so can't say what their track record is, but it looks to have more options then oblivion and it you can play Two Worlds online

I'm thinking Mass Effect will do much better with its graphics, Epic story and customization than Oblivion. and Lost Odyessy will only help on the same level if not more with its graphics, Epic story etc. I'm thinking even Halo 3 will do well considering the Japanese are starting to be open minded with more complex western games. PGR4 anybody!. MS is going to take off.

15.1 - Here is why there is no PS3 version

Japanese Xbox 360 players demanded it to be translated in Japanese when Oblivion first came out. Japanese PS3 owners never really cared about Oblivion. As for the guy saying Xbox 360 version is the worst, that's not 100% true. You can get Shivering Isles on Xbox 360, but not on PS3. PS3 version has it's advantages like sharper but not noticeable graphics, faster loading times, and the included quest of Knights of The Nine.

M$ n' Japan...just kinda reminds me of oil n' water. They've tried 'most every tactic in their books but can't seem to make any significant moves. It's good the game is selling well over there. Keeps their heads just above the water in the Japan market. But as for the article.."the 360 should have a few more strong performances to come." I don't think so, I don't consider this performance a "strong performance". Not when all it does is keep you floating out there, nothing more.

Don't get it twisted n' start poppin' off, 360 is my favorite current gen console on the market, I've had 3 (no, none of them RROD'd on me, n' one I had over a year) but sold each one n' with Halo 3 n' GTA4 'round the corner I've gotta get another. I just don't think the Xbox brand will ever penetrate Japan.

at this point in the game i don't think they'll ever see black in Japan. However, albeit small, they have garnered somewhat of a cult following over there that like western-styled games. Rap was also formed underground as well now it internationally recognized genre--will it be the same for Xbox?,thats a diffent story.
