1 - Ummm
its still good to have there. People can enjoy their consoles as movie players as well. Look at the PS3 and 360. Both do amzing thing for the movie market.

1.1 - DVD makes sense
+ DVD makes sense for the Wii, more so than for any other console. Why?
The Wii is meant to bring the entire family together around this entertaining device. First contact for non gamers would naturally be through DVD, wasn’t this one of the main ideas behind controlling it with a “familiar” remote. Then Mii’s and the other stuff (like wii fit) would then suck them into gaming…
I’m still waiting to by a Wii. As a DVD player my wife (hostile-non-gamer) would accept it in the living room, with the “remote” lying on the living room table even (would never happen with any other gaming controller). I think Nintendo is missing their own point on this one.

4.1 - Yeah I thought they use to have a policy of not talking about competition.
Seems like all they do now is talk trash and toss shovelware at the mindless masses.

5 - the way I see it is
That they absolutely dont want games console to be used as dvd players. which is wrong. If I wanna watch Hero, I dont have to close this and open this, but use it as both. Now why is it not worth a damn? If you dont have it, dont count the others as crap. Consoles now have become the center of the entertainment in peoples house (well as you like) and movie, music, games, are part of it.

6 - I wonder
what Nintendo is going to say when digital distribution takes off?
They are just pissed bc their online service is inferior to what the competition is offering. And they really have no way to compete bc their systen has no HDD.

It's a fluff piece.
If it works Nintendo will just adopt it.
It doesn't make since for them to pay middleware USB developers(for external HDD) and DVD software developers otherwise.

doesn't matter because normal consumers are IDIOTS to the bone. They don't look up review scores or pay attention to frame rates. All they want is familiar games, a lot of which are half ast made by EA. The same goes for most of the Wii games.
They blow, but the normal consumer HAS NO IDEA. That's why price point is all that matters in console wars. HD movies WILL wait, and won't matter for another year or so. That is not a selling point for the PS3 to the bulk, that's why they bit the bullet and cut the price.
I hope I'm not telling you stuff you already know, just getting it out there.

A couple of you guys already said what I was thinking.
Wii doesn't have movies OR decent games. Just a bunch of stupid mini games that appeal to non gamers.
And yes Nintendo are getting very arrogant. This is the kind of remark that if Sony had said it 6 months ago would get 2000 comments on Gamespot flaming them.
Nintendo seem to be turning their backs on us and just chasing dollars now. I dont think they are handling their success very well at all.

9 - The Wii has decent games??
Where?? Last time I checked they were cr@p ports, and very shoddy looking games! Hell even a developer said sorry for making cr@p games lol!
I used to have a Wii but even though yes its a games console there is another huge camp out there that want the FULL (well this gen experience) and that is for a FULL entertaiment experience with High Definition gaming, superb visuals, long gameplay, movies, music, interactivity, online all that can be only available on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The Wii is for a different market.
Of course Reggie won't give a damn because the Wii is totally incapable of offering anything like what the 360 and PS3 can offer.

10 - Wii is actually a good console to pick up chicks
You can invite the ladies who are clueless about video games back to your home to play the Wii. Wii should make some karma sutra games to help turn the ladies on! ;)
But when it comes to true gaming... well, that really isn't Wii's strong point.

Video marketplace is good to have because who the hell does nothing but play games all the time? anyways thats what I like about the PS3 and 360 beacause if you want something else besides games it there for you in the form of Video chat,Music,internet,DVD,Blu-Ra y,HD DVD and video Marketplace. Sadly Wii doesnt do any of that except internet for its $250 price tag.

17 - Why don't you guys
shut the phuck up and go play your games.
Jesus, I've been a member of n4g for like 5 months and I am amazed at how you guys never tire of this $hit.
Reggie doen't play games I'll bet $500 on it, it's just strategic pr bull$hit, get over it!
That being said, i am ready for a really great game to hit the wii, but we all know it's coming. i agree in that i really don't want a console for downloading movies. at all. nintendo has said, ad nauseum, that they are trying to get new peeps into gaming, and then they'll gradually up the ante with different games. what about this do you not understand? i for one am tired of the direction videogames are going in, i would never buy a360 or ps3, at least a company is trying something new. how is that bad? do we want 3 of the exact same machines with exact same games? NO!
the ps3 and you're beloved 360 all had slow to start games, so does the wii. i think the strategy to release simple games at first and bide time for more complex stuff is smart. at least there's some content, and some of it pretty damn fun.
continue with mindless bashing...

18 - Makes sense for Nintendo to say this...
1- Their box isn't powerful enough to decode and display HD video
2- They don't offer a HDD yet so there is no place to hold the video even if it could
3- Nintendo has no connections in the media world (like Sony and MS) so they wouldn't know where to start to get access to the videos, even if they had a HDD and the box could handle it
4- The Wii usage model isn't compatible with video downloads anyway. To make video dl's work, you need the console to be permanently connected to the main (living room) TV and used daily. That is not how casual gamers operate.
There's room for more than one approach in the business but its telling that the Nintendo news are ony about what Nintendo itself is doing, whereas MS and Sony talk about what they and their *partners* are doing.
Nintendo seems to have a toymaker's mentality rather than a CE compony mentality. THe Wii business model is about Nintendo making all the money themselves and any hangers-on they deign to tolerate get the table scraps.
Bottom line: Wii and video are *mutually* incompatible.
And when you can't do something, by definition its not worth doing, right? ;-)

Actually, I kind of agree with him - while I admit it is nice to have the option of video playback, just how many of you guys actually don't have a DVD player in you home other than the 360 or PS3? I doubt it would be many of you. While the video marketplace is a nice feature, the main use of a console is to play games: He's right, without popular games your console ain't worth sh!t. Now Sony have felt that recently, but they are addressing it - come this fall there will be great games available - something that finally justifies to me the price I payed for it. The 360 is already there - I have spent countless hours playing numerous games. Now Ninty on the other hand, while incredibly popular, IMO, have very few decent games on the Wii, but since it was so cheap to buy, I can easily justify it.
My prob with Ninty at the moment is it's woeful attitude towards European gamers - and this in the long run will bite them in the a$$. We still don't have elite beat agents (DS) or trauma centre for the Wii. Just how poor is that?
I for one probably won't use the download service much as I like to have a hard copy of my films - I generally don't like to rent them.
