I have some problems with the list. Classics like Psychonauts, original GOW and DMC, Theif: Dark Project, Ninja Gaiden Black, System Shock 2, Quake 3, StarCraft, Deus Ex and many others all have a rather low places on the list while htey should be much higher IMO? And no Mortal Kombat 2? Now Im insulted.

1.1 - there's a lot of problems with this list...

Grim Fandango

Ultima Underworld or any Ultima games (not a single Ultima game makes the list!)

Wing Commander or at least one Origin game (not a single Origin game is on the list -- and those guys practically INVENTED the gaming industry, video RPGs, space sims, and the MMO industry! C'mon, Origin invented tile-based engine, quest-based role-playing, interactive 3D game world with Underworld, dialog trees, and so many other things.)

Fallout, Planescape, (not a single Black Isle game makes the list - yikes!)

Baldur's Gate 2 deserves a place more than Morrowind or Oblivion (i.e., not a single PC RPG makes the list - amazing!)

Dune 2 (invented the RTS genre.)

The list is biased towards CONSOLE games.

Wow, I cant believe I missed to mention my all time favorite game Fallout. Thanks for reminding me.
And so many other games that I missed like Grim Fandango and Planscape: Torment... I cant believe they made such a bad list.

GOD OF War 95, come on man are you kidding me. I guess it depends on people taste he seem to like alot nintendo games which I probably wouldn't have none of those on their besides zelda. To me God of War would of been number 1, RE4, Ico, zelda snes, I wouldn't have any puzzle games who are they kidding tetris number 7.

Considering how extremely hard it would be to make a list that spans every console/pc title down to 100 "best" I think they did a respectable job. The original Resident Evil falling 20+ spots BEHIND Manhunt is really the only injustice I'm seeing. Maybe the 14 year-olds are having too much influence these days because RE was really the first game to ever really freak me out and attach me to the character while playing it.

Halo 1 was a defining moment for console shooters and I agree that it should be in the top 10. It is in the top 10 for the same reason Mario 64 is in the top ten; it and it alone sold the system it was for. It’s like titanic the movie; you may not like but it’s the top grossing movie of all time by a huge margin because obviously tons of people do like it. The first time I played through halo I refused to stop and pee or even smoke.

That being said I also think that MGS 1 should also be in the top 10. It was better than part 2 and the story was amazing from start to finish.

What is burnout 2, pgr2 (rather than 3???) and WOW doing in there. Metroid prime is per game rankings is one of the highest rated games of all time and it isn’t in the top 10?!?!? Mario world rather than mario allstars (streetfighter anniversary was on the list)? No MK 2? This list is madness! Outrun 06? Virtual tenis 3? What about strider and contra. Crackdown but no gears!?!?!?!? Doom created the fps genre and its under theif??? Football manager??!?!?

MMO games shouldn’t even be mentioned, its a giant chat server with a semi interesting front end. If you took the chat element out it would be a hollow, shallow and VERY boring rpg game. People don’t play it for the game play they play it for the social interaction. As a game it has little merit when compared to some of the extremely polished heavy hitters on the list.

In my opinion as a hardcore gamer this list is pure crap.

Halo did sell the Xbox. PS2 would have absolutely crushed it otherwise. Why didn't Bungie go with Sony? Maybe cause they needed 4 controller ports instead of 2.

call me crazy, but this list seems all based on opinion.. i mean i can understand some of the games like FFVII being around the top, but that being better than elder scrolls? hell no. dont get me wrong, i loved FFVII, it was an amazing game. the fact that they compare towards console games just makes it unfair..

it also annoying how they didnt mention other great games like r&c, resistance, gears, and mortal kombat.. i wouldnt be surprised if they mentioned one of the BK games on the list and described it as "being one of the cheaper games"

What the hell happened to GEARS OF WAR? that should be in the top ten. Surely the top ten should be the most influential & best selling games ever. The ones that re-defined their genre's Like:-

The Sims.
GTA.
Tetris.
Mario.
Gran turrismo.
Zelda.
Resident Evil.
Doom.
Gears of war.

ETC..

OK so here's an idea there are only so many types of games so lets at least try to find the best of each.

FPS - COD3
TPS - GEARS
PLATFORM - Mario 64
RACER - Gran Turrismo 3
SURVIAL HORROR - Resident Evil
RPG - Zelda Ocarina of time

I'm glad the list gave "Zelda A Link to the Past" its props. I think it's the most underrated Zelda game out of all of them..everything else has just been that game in 3D with a new story. As for Final Fantasy XII being #8? Dude...what the hell

Wow; I really think God of War should have been higher. And DMC sort of introduced (in my eyes) the concept of stylized play; not just completing an objective, but trying to make it the coolest, most cinematic thing you can imagine.

Let's see, I have 99, 95, 94, 90, 79 (sorta, I have Escape from Monkey Island), 63, 56, 38, 30 (I can't think of 29 games I'd ever say were better than SotC), 27, 21, 13 (starting to get worried Ico wasn't on there...).

Ahh well, I personally don't agree with the list, but that's the point of the word "personal." They could have thrown MTV Music Generator in the mix though; endless gameplay/creativity there.

I know you can't get everyone's favorites, but these three are in the best 20 games of all time. Certainly top 50

Zelda oot would have been my choice for 1st place
I would have placed Goldeneye higher as it was just as defining as Halo
Zelda past definitely in top 10
Super Mario 64 (still better than anything else)
Super Marioworld (of course)
Wouldn't have said Metroid but it was very defining and i can see why it might be there.
GT 1 should have been in top 10
Tetris is one of the best games ever.Nothing like it existed and just about all puzzle games have taken their something from the idea of falling blocks.I can understand why it's in top 10.

I'm pretty happy with the top 10 but only because it has those mentioned that are my fave games of all time.

Glad Crackdown is at least on the list , it's very underrated

Its a tough task to narrow it down to 100 games, but still this list is horrible. How the hell did crackdown get on the list but gears of war didn't? And Halo1 is waaaay too high. God of war not being in at least the top 25 is a crime too. The top 5 isn't bad, but everything else is terrible.

every single list of the top 100 video games of all time have MGS in the top 20 at least.

And no Half life 1. WTF.

Edge is a very intelligently written informative mag and it's views are mostly always spot on.Other mags really don't cut it attal and rarely has Edge's opinions let me down - occasionally but it's usually down to preference.A 7/10 in Edge means a good game(the way it should be) instead of an average one in just about all other mags ,with 5/10 being average.Lesser mags regularly hand out very high scores to merely good games giving the impression that a game is something extra special.Edge tell it how it is ,giving high accolades only to the most deserving of games ie titles that push past the envelope or do things so astoundingly well that they have to be awarded super marks.Lost planet for example got a 7/10 (A game that is solid enough and doesn't do anything wrong but is also soulless and doesn't stand out as anything extra special).It's regarded as the best games mag in the business.People slagging it are thick quite honestly , but then again most gamers are.

I'm commenting here about Edges reviews by the way not the Top 100
