Week recap: PS3 green; Xbox 360 sales fall; Wii plunge

Amazon.com this week discounted Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 Sixaxis wireless controller to $39. The savings represents a discount of 20 percent off the MSRP.

Sales for the PS3 stayed green in Japan this week in the latest hardware tally. In addition, the PS3 held three software titles in the top 50 game sales for the week.

Sony Style stores in the U.S. have begun offering a free $50 gift card with purchase of a PS3 and two $59 games. The offer is the latest promotion to spur hardware sales.

Dude Japan is no longer a leader when it comes to game sales. They are roughly 15% of the market now.

The numbers we really need to see are North America (which I believe includes Canada)as well as Europe.

Saying that Ps3 is selling like crazy in Japan is rather eh.

Im not saying this as a fanboy of any system. Im just stating that Japan's sales are not something to go crazy over.

Now if Xbox 360 outsold the Nintendo DS in japan THATS news.

The Wii and DS is selling better than the 360 and PS3 in Japan and now has a larger market share. I would give more credit to Japan than just 15%...Nintendo is selling like hotcakes there. Most consoles that take over the top spot do so because they own Japan...the 360 is doing well single handedly everywhere else but Japan, but people don't have much bias when it comes to Playstation and Nintendo so I think Japan has a big role in how the market share goes.

Please go back and re-read the article about Australia Nintendo came out and debunked that whole thing. Japan doesn’t matter because Sony’s sales there aren’t enough to offset worldwide sales. They are lucky they are doing dissent in Japan otherwise Sony would be getting leveled.

Australia’s game market is so small it’s not even wroth mentioning, no better than saying in Kazastand the PS3 is taking the market. Surprise I’m even wasting my time posting this…

It's about time the Wii sales drop. The console is a POS. Seriously, with more and more people buying HDTV they'll realize the Wii is sh!t. It's not NEXT GEN. It's last gen with a new controller. I have a 360 and now PS3. When I only had a 360 my roommate bought a Wii and I almost threw up the graphics were such sh!t. Nobody wants last gen. I say everyone who wants a Wii should buy an Xbox 1 if they want real last-gen games. Enough with Mario! That's a kid's game. Let the series die and give me something other than Pokemon. My god, without Mario Nintendo would be gone. Also, enough with Metroid. That game is ancient.

Yes I've been drinking, as you can tell. But at least I'm not against Sony. BTW, I'm going to cut back to once/week :) yay! I'll save money for more video games.

i gave it a fair try, and the surge of bad minigame collections did it for me, my ii is now only blinking blue now and then, prolly when the pointless crappy "news channel" updates, or the weather channel no one uses, or maybe the poll channel ...

i did not fire up my wii for month, starting to think i should mod it, and wait for anything good for it, but the trend in wii games seems to be GC lookalikes and PS2 conversions, and i won't buy such.

and on topic: that title should include a) Japan and b) ebay, its missleading the way it is now

Oh my god! Did anyone actually read any of the article?! It says that Wii sales plunged ON EBAY!... but eventhough they plunged, they're STILL the best selling eBay console.

And even still... the fact that online sales of Wii are dropping only means that Nintendo is starting to catch up on its production, and people are actually able to find one in stores instead of having to resort to purchasing online.

I played Wii sports. I also had a Gamecube. I just traded in my DS for a PS3 if you've read my numerous other posts.

I want my third bubble back. So what if I don't like Wii because it's a gimick. I didn't offend anybody personally. They need to change the rules about how people can take away bubbles. Personal attacks are one thing, or talking about say Xbox or PS3 fans. Claiming that something sucks isn't grounds for taking away bubbles.

It's funny how when they talk about sales, they talk about how the PS3 stayed green IN JAPAN and how 360 sales fell IN JAPAN. Then when they talk about the Wii, they don't stress the fact that it edged both Sony and Microsoft in japan by selling more than 65,000. Instead, the stress the fact that Wii sales fell on...wait...EBAY? Since when did EBAY count?

A better title could have been "Week recap;PS3 green;360 sales fall;Wii outsells" because that is what the Wii did. It outsold both systems. The title makes things sound like they were comparing all three consoles using one sales source. Instead, they uses Japan sales for both Ps3 and 360, then use eBay sales for Wii? Why? So they can use the word "plunge" in the title?

You can clearly see the negative spin this otherwise neutral article has been given. There's too many people out there hating on the Wii's success. Why not just give credit where credit is due.

If you think about it, why on earth would you pay $600 or £425quid for a system, if the games that you love are not coming out for alittle while or quite awhile, wouldnt it make more sense to steer clear until a price drop or better deal happens, when the games you seek are released.

Everyone knows MGS4 will sell many many consoles.

I'm thinking to myself, lets just say, a major game is coming out, that sold like hotcakes on the ps2, but its for the ps3 this time. And when such a game appears you drop the price of said console a wee bit.

That would be a big enough incentive for ppl to buy said system.
