games are always better than EAs. I hope once EA's licensing is up with the NFL that they aren't able to renegotiate a contract.

Having no competition will only lead to poorer games.

I know...believe me man...you don't know how much it hurts to turn away from something I've been playing since I was in High School man. I mean I literally cut my adolescent teeth in video games on Madden back in the day. Boy was it fun. Hell we'd skip school to play all the time ~ but not practice, coach would whip our a$$!lol

But since the new form took place coinciding with the launch of the PS2 back in 2000 it seems that the franchise has just continued to lose its luster as far as I'm concerned. 1st it was the goal - line glitch in the game where no one could be stopped on offense in that formation back on 2003's edition. The arrow glitch, the "lead recv'r" glitch (that I killed people with), the good 'ol "L2" glitch and the onsides kick glitches of '04 and '05. There are many other little nuances of the game that I could throw in there, but don't want to give away all unknown cheats.lol Hell I remember back on Maddens '91, '92 '93 if you picked the 49ers, the Giants, the Redskins, or Cowboys you could damn near win the Super Bowl by running one play on offense and the same on defense. Ronnie Lott, Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, Lawrence Taylor, and Otis Anderson were damn near untouchable, and Jay Novacek was just silly.

I was able to overlook all of that because I am a fan of Madden. That's John Madden. The guy is an absolute legend ~ he's classy, he's an NFL Hall of Famer, he coached my favorite team to absolute dominance and fear back in the day, but above all, HE RESPECTS THE GAME.

Now, I can't expect the guy to live forever, but the removal of his signature voice from the game (Madden and Summerall were magnifique!), along with the status quo - minimal upgrades every year since 2000 is just making me turn away from the series I love so much more and more. I've been saying these things since 2001: Where are the player's towels ~ there are towels EVERYWHERE in football!? Where's the bench - fans w/ mist to keep the players cool ? Where's the security, the vendors, the towel boy? Where's all the debris on the field on a windy day in Cleveland or Tampa, or Chicago, or Oakland? Is there not debris or wind in those stadiums especially? All stadiums?

They used to bring the ambulance onto the field and run over all the players (not realistic, but hilarious!) - they don't even bring the ambulance (or cart) when the player gets hurt now. He just holds some random part of his body and the scene is over. Where are the trainers?

a/w - it seems like 2K is at least giving them a run for their money in the graphics department, but that elusive NFL license will keep 2K on the sidelines for a while. Somehow I think when they get it though ~ they won't take it for granted as the people that have hi-jacked this OUTSTANDING, OUTSTANDING franchise that was John Madden Football. RIP. Just my thoughts. Carry on.

everytime I see a football game it's just seem more like clay filled jersey. A new art direction would be great to the genre.

funky, you can acutally design your own symbol and colors and the strips in APF 2k8 i love the way 2k is going here with the legends its gunna be great. madden's models are so Fukin huge its crazy.

2k8 looks like true to life football madden looks fake ,where is the action of the field in madden the refs,sideline refs,the line of scrim .field goal net.they might as well left out the nfl .madden sucks..

and I'd like to think it's for good reason, but I'm not even gonna kid myself here...BOTH of these games look sub-par. With Madden on it's third next-gen release, it should have player models like FNR3 or better, and same with 2K.

I understand that this is their first outing, but they've been on hiatus enough so that they should have been able to figure out the technology of both these machines by now. I think these games look decent, and I'm pretty disappointed. Nitpick at the barely there differences if you must, but I'd rather play a good game than have a pissing contest over two mediocre ones.

and I do still own and LOVE NFL 2K5 by the way, remember I'm a 2K head myself. 2K5 is a stellar game and IMO was the BENCHMARK for what a football game should be.

That was three years ago.

My beef with 2K8 is that it doesn't look to be making the next-gen leap, ESPECIALLY with a three year hiatus. Wouldn't you agree that those three years should have given them the edge they needed to put forth something truly spectacular? All I'm seeing is traditional 2K gameplay with visuals slightly above Madden, and to top it all off they're struggling with framerates? Like I said, I love 2K as much as the next guy, but frankly, I was expecting better.

I will purchase this game to support the dev team at the very least, because I remember the huge leap that was NBA 2K7 and MLB 2K7 over their previous years...so all hope is not lost, this is a very competent dev house, but I'm just not seeing it for this year. I'm hoping beyond hope that the game will prove me wrong, though.

I been playing madden pretty much forever but when 2k started coming out i was a big fan cause the i thought gameplay was just more fun. Now madden is alone with the exclusive right and is the winner by default but they let the fans down by making mediocre games. I think this is bigger than just madden vs. 2k8 but EA vs. 2ksports EA is on the decline as we can see with baseball and especially basketball live is garbage it's only a matter of time before 2k outshine in football. AS for i'll probably get both

This video favored 2k8 but I don't see much different graphically except that the contrast was higher. In my opinion, the football players seem more alive/real movement wise. I like the idea of creating my team using past all-stars.

If 2K holds true to having great play mechanics I won't have to look any further. Not that I have - look that is. I haven't bought a Madden game since Madden 2005 because after playing 2006 and 2007 a few times on my buddies xbox 360 - I passed.

Come to think of it. I don't own any EA game.
