Yep. Once PS3 gets some more exclusives, who knows what might happen. It's been over two years since we've seen anything from Killzone 2. It might (at least try to) give Halo 3 a run for it's money. Lair looks pretty good too. It'll be a while before I get a PS3 though.

if your interested, Folksoul(sp?) and Ninga Gaiden made 11th and 19th. Xbox 360's Saints Row made 25th, and the rest are DS/Wii titles. It seems like the xbox 360 & ps3 hardware took a 1k jump from last time.

Which could be bad for Japanese SE loyalists waiting for FF before making a purchase decision. Either way I'm looking forward to 13 and Versus, I just hope one comes out earlier rather than later next year.

well there is white knight and other rpgs to hit before then i believe but yea with most of the bigs hits being releases around 08 i think the ps3 will be at full steam by then, this fall should boost it quite abit, and especially if killzone delivers and shows a demo or something, that will put confidence with buyers to go to sony

well something will come out for japan, since they get tons of games that we never see here in teh states, that get great scores adn sell tons, but mostly i guess we really need to see something good at e3 from sony, and if sony is giving killzone a 2 hr showing, i think it has to impress, or people will lose faith, but we have to wait a couple weeks

Don't you realize that Japan is Sony territory. Yet the Wii is outselling it almost 7 to 1. Not to mention that PS3 is only outselling 360 3 to 1 in sonys home territory.

This is nothing but bad news for Sony. Based on their past history they should be king in Japan. 4 weeks under 10k in Japan is nothing short of an embarrassment for Sony.

With Nintendo crushing them in Japan. And the 360 and Wii closing the vice in the US and Europe is there really anywhere else to go.

I needn't guess that it was you who went through all the PS3 comments and disagreed with them all?

And Japan isn't "Sony's territory," it's shared with Nintendo, and right now Japan is happy with their Wii and DS, and it'll probably stay that way until some AAA games come on PS3, which might not be soon, depending on when SE and Konami release their big hitters.

I expect you to disagree with me of course, but if Gundam Musou can double the PS3's sales, I don't doubt FF or MGS4 can do more.

all i have to say is that there is more to the PS3 than just MGS4 and FFXIII.

Killzone, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, The Getaway, Heavenly Sword, Lair, White Knight Story, Little Big Planet, etc.

they aren't exactly chewed gum.

it's no surprise that the PS3's sales are slowly starting to ascend with the release of more titles.

yes, MGS4 and FFXIII will have a huge effect on PS3 sales, but there are other titles that will spur sales also.

i also think the Japanese would really dig something like HOME, which launches this year.

in either case, the numbers for all consoles and handhelds are looking pretty good.

I know what you're saying but, as far as Japanese interest goes, I'm putting my money on MGS and FF rather than those other games. Those games will likely fare better in Europe and North America.

Oh and White Knight Story of course would help.

While all those titles should help ps3 sales, NA, Europe and Japan all have different tastes. Not many of us in NA buy DS with educational learning games (we don't like school either), but in japan, "learn english" sells like hot cakes. Japan likes more fantasy and very "japanese tv show-ish" games (wario's smooth move game). Thats one of the reasons MS isnt that big in Japan. They are more aimed at FPS and "mature" based games. And by mature i mean just downright violently weird. Whats up with that bioshock game? It looks like something out of a bad dream. And I don't mean "scarry, freaky" bad dream; I'm talking about "OMG, I can't beleive I dreamt this, I need to take some vitamine C in my diet".

Yup, Lost Odyssey has potential to help sales further than what Trusty Bell did. RPGs seem to have the biggest impact there for home consoles. Surprised FolksSoul didn't help PS3 much though.

Ha, you can't be serious -- we're talking about Japan, what do you think they're going to buy more of: Halo and GTA, or FF and MGS? We're not talking about worldwide sales here, or the PS2. We're looking at current numbers and the heavy hitters in Japan. You can talk all you want about the 360's massive success, but in Japan, this is not the case, and what you're speaking of is heavily irrelevant.

You've got to quit writing paragraphs about how amazing the 360 is in all your posts, it's tiring. 17 - I have a couple questions...

1. Do you realize that MGS and Final Fantasy Games for the ps2 only sold 1.5 to 2 million games each version?

2. How will that help the ps3 sales exactly? Thats only a few million fans and while both games are Great Franchises....They just didn't compare to GT game sales or Halo game sales or GTA game sales. Those are the big franchises that push multi million buyers...Final Fantasy XI for the 360 sold 800k. While it was an old game when it finally released for the 360....It still sold a decent amount with a very small install base at the time. Square needs to sell Final Fantasy on the 360 and MGS can benefit greatly from releasing on the 360 as well. They can maximize their game sales instantly if they do so. And the only reason why they wouldn't....Is if Sony pays them Incredibly large amounts of money to keep them from doing it. Money is what drives this video game industry...and Developers are learning very quickly that games sell in enormous amounts on the xbox 360...

Do you think Sony is pleased with selling under 10k a month in their home country? Do you think they are pleased with selling under 100k a month in the US? They have to be worried. They have shipped over 5 million ps3's yet only about half have sold. And the two biggest games coming for the ps3....only sold a couple million on the ever popular ps2...What makes you think "Gamers" will drop 600 dollars plus the 60 for the game...when only 2 million or so sold on the 100 million fanbase Ps2? I don't know folks....I know games are important....but that price is hurting Sony more than they will admitt. And they are in a tuff spot. Even with the 600 dollar price tag...they are loosing hundreds of dollars on each console sold. Its a catch 22 situtation for them. I admire their exreme attempt to be innovative with the Cell and Blu ray....The gaming industry just ain't buying it when they see the 360 outperforming it accross the board.

1)Wikipedia says... Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty- 7 million copies sold on PS2. That's one million off of Halo 2. Guess that doesn't compare...

2)I'd argue MGS franchise sales are competitive with Halo franchise sales. Also, Gran Turismo, which is Sony 1st party, trounces Halo in games sold.

3) Also according to wikipedia, the three best-selling nextgen (ie. not including wii) games are Gears of War, Oblivion and... wait for it... Resistance: Fall of Man. For a system that has less than 4 million units sold, that's pretty good. In fact, that's downright amazing. Resistance, as a franchise, definitely has legs.

since when did sony rely on two franchises to make their console succeed ?

Games like Haze, Killzone2 would appeal to another demographic than Final Fantasy's. You also got stuff like Lair, Heavenly Sword, God of War 3, Then we have games like Everybody's Gold, Singstar, My Summer Games (not sure of the title). Also there's platformers like ratchet and clank, and some "cult" games like ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, that Sony happen to be good at making. And last but not least there's RPG's, plenty of them, that will hit the PS3 later, like a new Shin Megami Tensei, White Knight Story, etc.

PS3 is more balanced as per games lineup than any of the Wii and 360. But it's tag price, and lack of games are causing it's mediocre performance. Personally I don't have a PS3 yet, and I'm even surprized that PS3 is managing to sell 10000 consoles per week in Japan, and even outselling other consoles in areas like Australia.

Sony "droids" may be counting on two franchises to save their day, but the company is not, and there's tons of promising new franchises and continuation of previous successes that will rock the PS3 in a matter of time.

Personally I'm not thinking about buying a PS3 before White Knight Story and a price drop come out.

Well lets not forget that the DS didn't even get it's biggest heavy hitter yet! Dragon Quest IX, once that comes out we can expect an even bigger boost in DSL sales.
With how Folksoul and Trusty Bell did and even Blue Dragon it seems that Japan wants RPG's it just seems like a wasted effort for they don't buy them in droves because they don't want the system it's on. Hopefully devs see this and start a massive production of RPG's left and right for the Wii and DS!
