You Can Now Unban Your Xbox 360 Thanks To Modders

YourEMGN Writes: "Recent estimated have said over 1 million gamers have been effected by Microsoft's 360 bans. Modders have attempted to free users from Microsoft's grip by releasing what is known to us as "iXtreme LT". According to a forum post on Xbox-Scene you can now unban your Xbox 360."

Completing that extremely long process will take hours and most likely cause you to break even more laws. Of course if your desperate, you'll take a shot at it.

I can see flashing the dvd or installing a mod chip are the obvious mods. What other ones are "innocent" people getting banned for?

(This is a highly complex process which relies on a number of free tools and in doing this you may be breaking more laws than you already have. YourEMGN does not recommend this process in any form.)

No matter how MS work at it there's an entire subculture dedicated to ripping their work apart. Be it for pirating reasons, or even just a challenge, nothing is 'safe' in the world of technology.

Shut this user up Let user speak

3.5 - @ 3.4
It isn't unbreakable by modders - it's that there's no good reason to bother. Like trying to reinvent the wheel. I can understand modding 360s though; the temptation to try and fix it yourself after the nth breakdown must be overwhelming.

As for piracy: the principle is the same as Macs and PCs. Macs are rarely hacked because PC is the dominant brand. If/when PS3 gets a bigger install base than 360...it'll get hacked.

A large subset of the pirating scene like to crack machines so that they can execute their own code on there. This is possible with the older PS3s (not the slim ones).

While that didn't kill attempts to hack the PS3, I imagine it played a part in preventing too many hackers from trying. The PS3 can probably be hacked, but why bother when, for most people, there's nothing to gain

ps3 can and will be hacked, there's just no real reason when there's better hardware for cracking cheaper on the shelves getting better versions of games with a superior online service.

As said above, the bigger the ps3 market the more likely it'll get hacked

In school, whenever one person did something stupid, everyone got punished. I used to hate the teachers for doing that. Now I realize that the teachers were doing that so that we would hate the misbehaved children that much more. I hate these asshats who are modding to steal games. They justify their actions by saying the companies are ripping them off? They don't even have to buy the products if they don't think they are worth the price. Clearly, their minds have gone haywire, and now, they haven't learned their lesson. They will continue to find ways to cheat the system, which only ends up punishing everybody.

I don't know why people see the modders & hackers as some kind of Robin Hood characters, because they aren't. They certainly aren't doing it for the altruistic reasons they claim as some kind of justice against corporate tyranny. That is a lame boldface lie that only an idiot would believe. People steal software because they are crooks.

You are right that every honest customer is affected in the long run by piracy. The cheaters try to cozy up to the game communitity, acting as if they are a part of it, but they aren't. They only have what they have because we spend our money to support the industry. So by extension, they steal from us too.

The reason for punishing a class isn't necessarily for hate, but its in hope of the class having some degree of self-regulation. If the guy next to you is doing something that will get everyone in trouble, wouldn't you try to stop him if you could? That's the point, not for you to hate him.

And guys, MS hasn't punished everyone... only the people who have specifically done something that MS says you can't do. Don't act like the whole Xbox community has suffered because a bunch of modders got banned... their actions aren't hurting you in the least bit. Yeah, getting banned because you put a different HD in the box probably sucks, but the people who do that and get on Live are fully aware that MS doesn't want you to do that.

Even the idea of developers losing a huge amount of sales is debatable because a large amount of people who pirate games never would have bought them in the first place. Yeah, they might have bought a few, but definitely not the dozens of games they likely have pirated.

Besides, most people have pirated copyrighted material at some point or another. Ever DL'd an mp3 you didn't pay for? Ever torrented a movie? Ever watch network TV from somewhere other than somewhere like Hulu? Ever filmed a screen and posted it on YouTube? Ever copied a music CD from a friend and gave it back to him? Ever got a digital copy of a movie and gave it to someone else? Old enough to had a tape deck.. remember how it easy it was to copy those? If you have ever gotten a piece of copyrighted material you didn't pay for, then you are a pirate... same as all the people that just got banned.

EDIT: Sorry for the rant. Just see too much hypocrisy lately. I see some people laugh and curse at Xbox modders, and then in another post blast the MPAA and RIAA for defending copyrighted material.

"Don't act like the whole Xbox community has suffered because a bunch of modders got banned... their actions aren't hurting you in the least bit."

Yeah, I don't think you thought that part through. Companies like Activision raise the prices of games to "overcome" piracy. Obviously, this is going to cause more piracy, but the percentage of people who still continue to pay for their games doesn't decrease too much. Thus, Activision makes a major profit and then continues to complain about piracy. Guess why games used to cost $49.99 last gen and now cost &59.99.

Believe it or not, but piracy hurts the honest gamer community. If the game is overpriced, don't buy it. Just because you CAN obtain it for free, doesn't mean you should. And maybe you don't have those morals, I don't know.

The price jump isn't really so much a piracy thing at all. It's a natural increase in price for the market. Cost of doing business is higher than it was five-ten years ago, so companies will naturally charge more for their products than they did then. The new prices were set as soon as the consoles were released, therefore long before the Xbox had its big piracy issues. Mark my words, even if the next generation of consoles are all completely hack-proof, we will still see prices rising more.

Developers may claim piracy is causing a loss of sales, and I can't disagree that it doesn't. But I'm also not naive enough to think that the overall industry would automatically go up 10% or more in overall revenue just because the box wasn't hackable.... because it wouldn't. You can't automatically assume every game that is DL'd would have been purchased otherwise, because there is no doubt that they would not have been. For instance, I downloaded Too Human. I hated the demo, so never would have bought it... but I got it for free so I gave it another chance.

Yeah, my argument wasn't laid out as nicely as I would have liked, but the point remains. Basically, I'm just saying that I don't think the piracy issue is quite as widespread and devastating as companies would like us to think. They have no way of knowing how many copies of their game were illegally downloaded, so piracy largely becomes an excuse. But ultimately it doesn't matter, because if it isn't piracy, it will be something else.

Much like the MPAA blaming all of its problems on pirates, while completely neglecting the fact that ticket prices have skyrocketed, movie quality has dropped with endless rehashes, and people generally have less spending money than they did just a few short years ago. The same with this industry... the more corporate it becomes, the more companies will press their will onto consumers. And then turn around and blame those consumers when they don't make as much as they would like to.

BTW, I'm not trying to justify pirating.. I know what I and others have been doing is wrong. I'm just trying to say that the knee-jerk reactions aren't necessarily that much better when the issue at hand is so much deeper.

You know not all of the people banned weren't pirating games. I bet A LOT of them simple decided to fix their own XBOX after the 5th+ time. Doing so isn't illegal. It might break one of the hidden T&C but then again Microsoft brought it on themselves for selling a faulty product and it's shocking they have yet to be prosecuting for it yet.
What if you didn't want to pay over 5-10 times as much on a HDD from Microsoft. What if you wanted to actually hear your games insted of a fan?
Don't be so angry and judgmental because SOME people wanted to fix their broken console so Microsoft banned them two days before the biggest game of the year hit.

7.1 - Hmmm....
...do ya think that might be because MS's antipiracy team is outnumbered my MILLIONS? Hackers have a subculture larger than some COUNTRIES. The Korean and Chinese governments PROMOTE hacking, and offer $$/incentives for hacking breakthroughs on international defense grids, banks, and various large corporations. THAT ALONE is enough for millions of kids to take interest in hacking...and it all starts with learning how to do "simple" hacks like this. MS really can't combat this effectively, without investing more than it's really worth to them.

If you were tight enough to mod the last one why would you be the kind of person to do that? I don't advocate modding your console(except in the cases where people have fitted better fans because they HAD to for noise reasons and other things that the warranty won't cover anyway)but think you underestimate how annoyed some people get with MS over the extortionate Live subs-and just how much some people just dislike MS.

Believe me. I know people who game quite happily on other systems but have always, ALWAYS had modded Xboxes. Partly it started because(where I live anyway)the US was getting games earlier than we did and people wanted the games quicker-that simple and then it went on so long it became a kind of tradition. I've got one acquaintnance who even loks on it as a game in iotself and you can't reason with that attitude and it's why MS should ban accounts as well as consoles.

Mainly, though, if someone was angry enough at MS to pirate in the first place can you really see them feeling any better towards them now? No way they'll just do it again. Also this banning does nothing to counter those who cheat in online games. The use of lad switches and modded controllers is getting worse all the time on Live AND PSN and I on't see how they can really do a great deal about it when , if they can fool the console they can basically fool MS too-they just pput the cheat device at a later place along their connection than the console if they're lag switching and there's similar things for other cheats.

Thenm again, why would MS care about that? They still get their money. Sadly, even we gamers are powerless against the cheats of this world and while I don't see what they get from cheating to be good they'll always do it. FFS I was watching my kid play MKWii the other day and people werecheating on THAT! One guy just ALWAYS seemed to have a blue shell! IDK how but that's what he was doing-hanging back a little and then letting it go over and over and over whenever someone got past him-where is the fun there?

Yeah, but the cost of multiple games is NOT chicken feed, which is the major attraction of pirating them in the first place. I personally go through at least a game a week, sometimes multiple ones depending on work and what games are being played. I do buy some, but there is no way I could buy all the ones I go through... even if I got them from Craigslist, eBay, etc. I'm sure most modders are the same way.

I think hackers have more experience with MS operating software because it is well known throughout the world. Who would want to hack apple OS? Not worth the time.

Piracy is bad for the economy and the recession isn't helping either. Hackers, don't make it worst then it already is.
