Square-Enix: FFXIII visuals will get you hooked

Finally North American and European gamers know exactly when Final Fantasy 13 will be in store shelves in their respectful regions and they couldn't be happier. A lot of details were released today, including inside information on the visuals of the game. In fact Square-Enix believes lovers and new comers alike will be so impressed by how realistic the game looks that they'll be hooked by the visuals.

Here's Final Fantasy Art Director Isamu Kamikokuryo on the visuals and futuristic feel of the game:

Can be different with RPG's. Many people just love running around exploring the environments, visiting the shops and listening to the nice music in the background.

One of the few times I agree with Square, especially judging from the small pics you can see in the latest magazine scans.

1.3 - its because of the art, character design etc.
this game doesn't hold a candle to KZ2,UC2 or R&C: ACIT, in the graphics department.
The game should actually be resembling FFVII Advent Children or its many trailers, 1 being 2008.

Thank you M$ for funding FFXIII Versus.

Won't come close to UC2 or KZ2, but maybe it'll still look good....for a multiplat. It'll probably looks and play miles better on PC though.

1.5 - crazy talk...
it looked fabulous 3 years ago, right now, it's not going to turn any heads. Oh and there is a chance that both GOW3 and GT5 will release on March too, which means FF13 is going up against the pinnacle of gaming visuals.

pfff, the grafics are miserable!

I'm totally disappointed! Do you have seen the ultra low textures??? OMG and the levels have no details.. Sorry, but i really think it's because of the 360. BECAUSE i have seen some gameplay szenes in the FF14 trailer, and it's looking incredible with highly detailed levels. Just awesome..

I like gritty rather than vibrant, so maybe I won't be a fan of the pink hair and the neon green grass. I'm not saying the game is going to be bad. But the art style doesn't fit to well with my interests. Then again, Fallout 3 was way to bleak in art style, so maybe there's a good balance in between that I would like to see. Crysis mixed with Killzone 2.

Meh. I'm certainly not complaining about the game's graphics, regardless of whether the multiplat compromised them. They look good enough to me.

I want the gameplay and plot to get me 'hooked'. That's why I play FF games, after all.

Totally agree, RPG's are about the battle systems and the plot(s). Good graphics are always nice, but certainly not required. This generation has become too obsessed with pretty, sparkly, shiny things, either that or gritty, grainy, gray things... which sadly tends to (with exceptions as always) make for rather shallow resulting gameplay.

Yeah, I actually want to see how UC2, KZ2, or MGS4 as an open world game like FF13, GTA, etc...and see what it would look like?

From the looks of things, i think FF13 seem to be the best looking JRPG so far. What r u guys complaining about....again it is multiplat, so deal with it. I'll bet if it suddenly become PS3 exclusive again, it will be like out of this world all over again. Fanboy are so dense.

Why are there so many Sony fanboy on this site? Where are the gamers?

Really I wish N4G institutionalized fight club-esque rules.

The first rule of N4G is don't talk about N4G fanboys...

But with respect to your comments, I agree that the graphics look great. I just hope the gameplay and plot are up to par as well.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that using character assassination in the guise of accusing others of fanboyism is pretty passe, and should be frowned upon.

If it can beat Uncharted 2 in visual maybe but the gameplay has to be great also.

Uncharted 2 is the whole package. Visual and gameplay and immersion.

Please, be not a fan of Final Fantasy for a moment, and compare Uncharted 2 with FF13 screenshots..

FF13 is looking like a PS2 game in 720p..

Why do multiplatform games always being bash on N4g...GTA4, MW2, and now FF13.

But Multiplat that came out later on PS3 like Ninja Gaiden 2 and even Bioshock get defended by PS3 like no others..hmm..I see a pattern here. You people need to see Dr. Phil.

13 - its becuase multiplats fail in comparisons to ps3 games all the time
you just wouldnt understand unless you been playeing ps3 exclusives and then played a multiplat game wich just seems the only thing multiplats can offer is last gen gameplay with hd. I mean ps3 games feel like next gen and dont feel like anything I played from last gen.

why is everyone complaining about the graphics? did any of you play the older FF's say like 1-12? I thought Final Fantasy (like all rpgs) where about the story and gameplay ... yea I know graphics are a nice bonus but FF13 clearly has the best looking visuals on any Final Fantasy to date ... although FF Verus13 will have better graphics when it's released simply because it's an exclusive all exclusive tend to have better graphics .... and yea I'll admit I'm looking more forward to Versus 13 myself, but is it because the graphics are going to be better? no I'm more interested in Versus because from what i have seen of it looks darker and more interesting imo but does that mean i'm not going to purchase and enjoy 13? no I have played every Final Fantasy since 6, and FF13 will be the next FF that I will play and enjoy

Personally, I agree with your comment that it's about the gameplay and storyline, not nearly as much the graphics.

But, you have to understand that graphics can play a big role in making the gameplay or storyline come alive. So basically what I'm talking about is immersion. Great graphics + great storylines and gameplay make for some of the most immersive (and thus fun) games.

I do think that it can be concluded that this generation may be focusing too much on graphics and thus missing the more important aspects of what makes games good: gameplay and storyline. Because you can have amazing graphics, but a crap storyline, or unplayable game, either of which will sink any immersion.

So graphics really are a double edged sword... Focus too much on it and you end up skimping on the very important aspects of storyline and gameplay. Focus too little and you end up not maximizing the immersion of the game. Obviously Storyline and gameplay should come first though, especially for an RPG

you make a good point Sophos that graphics can play a key role in bringing a more enjoyable experience to games so I agree with you also + bubbles for a great reply (it's rare to see considering most replys/discussions turn in to console wars here on N4G)

Thanks :)

I can definitely understand your worries though, especially when there are heated arguments in certain other threads ( http://www.n4g.com/NewsCom-... where people are only talking about trivial aspects of graphics for this game and thus missing the big point which you've brought up.
