Alan Wake to arrive in May

MCV can reveal that 360 action title Alan Wake will be released globally in May 2010.

A source close to the game told us that the Microsoft-published adventure – developed by Finnish studio Remedy – will be promoted "in the style of a Hollywood movie".

MCV understands that Microsoft is aiming for a global release late in the month.

Uh? this was supposed to release Q1 of next year in Feb or Mar. and they pushed it back even more?... Sorry but this isn't looking good for this game. They've had 5yrs already and still pushing back?

Now if the game was displaying graphical and technical things we've never seen b4 then I could understand but come on, any about the game has been shown to remotely be like that so what's the hold up?

All I know is, this isn't a good sign at all.

@1.2: March 2010 is very crowded so they may have delayed it to quieter time. Both FF13 (just announced) and ME2 are releasing at march so it may have been too big competition for Alan Wake.

EDIT: Splinter Cell and Bioshock 2 are also releasing february 2010 so Q1 2010 as a whole is very crowded on 360 (PS3 has even more crowded timetable but that doesn't count for 360 release).

Probably later along the line. There's definitely a PC version somewhere out there and I think MS just made it Xbox 360 timeed exclusive. After all, wasn't his supposed to be the flagship title for DX11?

Before the PC version was canceled, Remedy once said that they have no intentions of supporting DirectX 10. If the game does end up coming to the PC a year later though, it won't be much of a surprise if they end up supporting DirectX 11. It seems a lot of developers are at least trying to tack on some DirectX 11 features to their DirectX 9 games. Plus, it's being published by Microsoft, and if it comes to the PC you'd think they would want it as a DirectX 11 showcase title.

Oh I can't wait for this! Although a game that has such an awesome "autumn/winter" vibe about it being released when the days are getting longer and the sun is beginning to get stronger is a bit strange. Oh well - I'll have to get some really thick curtains for my game room (or play at night!)

sadly i'll have to wait another half-a-year before i can get my hands on this masterpiece. might be a good timing business wise though. it seems that from jan-mar is full of games, with me2, gow 3, what else? basically, if they release a month or 2 before the scheduled month, alan wake will be competing heavily with other games, and i want this game to sell well, so that microsoft will look into expanding this series even more.

When did remedy ever say that they were supposed to release in Q1? The release window has been spring 2010 ever since the e3 demo was shown...plus remedy employees have still been saying spring 2010 on the alan wake forums.

10 - microsofts business tactics
this year when killzone 2 released microsoft released halo wars and gta dlc near to the same time to soften the impact killzone 2 would of had, therfor microsoft doesnt look weak to the 360 market. great tactic. In 2009 when God of War 3 releases microsoft will again release 2 of their exclusives near 2 the same time to soften the blow that GOW3 will deliver. but this time i am afraid GOW3 will steal ALL the lime light, great tactic by microsoft but also cowardly.

Maybe you'd have a point if they'd announced the release date of God of War 3 AFTER Square-Enix announced the release date for FFXIII. Considering Sony made their announcement first, it doesn't really seem fair to criticize them for releasing at the same time as FFXIII, it's not like they knew that FFXIII was coming out at that time when they decided on their date. Plus, they ALWAYS release God of War games in March.

Do you really think Sony has no clue when one of the biggest game of the year will be released on their platform that they control every single content?

Sony knew and even if not at a minimum the time frame, and that might be why GoW3 was pushed until the last possible day of March, but still try and keep it in March. Then again, maybe Sony doesn't view FF13 to be a threat of GoW3 sales.

Alan Wake in Q2

Crackdown 2 should be a summer release

Saving Halo Reach, Fable, Gears 3??? and Natal for the kill in the Fall.

Alan Wake for MAy was to help Third party games like Battlefield Bad Company 2, Lost Planet 2, and other Third party games to get some good sale in MARCH and APril.
