Tekken 6 sales still driven by the PlayStation brand

Tekken has always been closely linked to the PlayStation brand, and for many years was the flagship fighting franchise of Sony's console family. Despite finally going multiplatform in the newest iteration of Namco's popular series, it seems the the Sony version of the game still remains the more popular of the two.

Who would want to play this at all? It's inferior to all fighting games this gen, and for a game this new the graphics are appalling!

Truth is that Tekken has quite a big fanbase. One of my good friends is a huge Tekken fan, it all goes down to the control configuration and the whole franchise vibe.

Still, it has turned out to be the less "powerful" of fighters to come out this year =/

true, i think the graphics are crap. The psn tekken looked a lot cleaner. Im kinda disappointed with this tekken and to make matters worst blaze blue isnt out over here yet. Im vying between getting a us import and waiting for the euro release with extra content

I own both a PS3 and a 360. I got Tekken 6 on the 360 and it does feel strange playing it without a dualshock in my hands after so many hundreds of hours playing the previous games. You do get used to that sh1tty d-pad after a while, though it's still not the same. The game is a bit of a letdown though. Graphics are terrible, online is poorly implemented, and I just wish they'd bring back Force mode to what it was in Tekken 3/4. They absolutely NAILED Force in Tekken 4. Scenario in 6 is lame.

@1.4 - I agree that the graphics are not a huge improvement on Tekken 5, but I do not agree with your other statement. I'm a huge fighting game fan, and Tekken has the most fluid and best fighting system by far.

Doub that's the issue , fighting game fans buy their fighting games regardless of what else is available usually . And they were right to avoid the other fighting games released earlier this year .

It's various factors here , like some people still mad at the game going multiplatform , other more mad at the fact that after such a long wait the game isnt technically impressive enough (the game truly only shines in the excellent lightning effects and the smooth framerate) , plenty arent happy about the netcode ... and quite frankly the franchise has lost it's appeal and luster to many .

While SF4 was perceived in the press and public as the rebirth and total reinvention of Street fighter , Tekken 6 despite it's numerous good changes is perceived as "more of the same" for valid and wrong reasons alike .

A funny stigma and label they can't shake off ; since it's doesnt stagnate anymore than any other old fighting game franchise , and this time tried even harder bringing extra stuff than most games of the genre .

Hell the only fighting game that tried as much so far was Blazblue an it's a new IP .

possibly but all the adverts have been for ps3. I reckon same thing will happen with Final Fantasy even though it's a multiplatform title now. People just like to keep things the same as they always have been.

The series was on Playstation for how many years? This really should not be a surprise. About as dumb as everyone who found Tomb Raider: Underworld doing better on the Playstation. Has no one played Tomb Raider on the PS1?

Seriously. If Mario went multiplatform people would be surprised it was selling better on a Nintendo platform.

Meh.

had Namco focused on 1 platform instead, the game would have looked MUCH better. I'm not saying it will look like UC2, but a game optimized for the PS3 architecture will always look good, not to mention the arcade version was running on PS3s anyway.

My interest in this game disappeared completely the moment it went multiplat, i never had much interest in fighting games('cept BlazBlue, man that game is good!) and the knowledge that it will not push the PS3 anywhere near its potential didn't help one bit.

8 - i was a big tekken fan
had the whole series on ps brand and tekken 6 does look bad i played with the game and never went back to it should of stayed on the ps3 but the game was gimped so they could put it onto the 8g dvd xbox it should of not went multiplatform in the first place i will stick with street fighter 4 i still prefer that game with virtua fighter 5 if tekken 7 becomes ps3 exclusive i might give it another go the game shoulve been on ps3 ages ago because some parts do look dated and dont match up with street fighter 4 visual

8.1 - Here you go with that gimped stuff
Riddle me this, The game doa4 is better then this..... with that being said, explain to me how you came up with the theory of this game being gimped? I mean does that word help you sleep better at night? When all else fails lets just say MS paid people, or the game was gimpted to fit on a dvd. Give it a rest, the game just isn't that good, xbox360 controler sucks when it comes to the dpad.

ceedubya9 - 25 days 7 hours ago
8.2 - Here's what I don't understand
You say the game is gimped because it isn't exclusive. Yet you mention games that also aren't exclusive as being better than Tekken 6.

As far as graphics, the most recent Virtua Fighter blows this game away. and its on both the PS3 and 360. So that leads me to believe that the problem isn't that the game is on multiple consoles, but instead that Namco's development of the game isn't as pleasing to the eye as older multiplatform fighters.

had the game been a PS3 exclusive, the graphics could of been better. sadly they delayed the game and pretend as if they were doing something with it when the fact was they were making the 360 version.

9.1 - Then please
Explain to me why Virtua Fighter for PS3 AND 360 looks better than this game? Would the game have looked better as an exclusive? MAYBE. But we can't use the 360 as an excuse, when other fighters like VF don't seem to have a problem with looking good on these consoles.

you know, i use to come here EVERYDAY but this place has become such a bitter place by you playstaion only owners. your always suggesting if this game WASNT on the 360 it could have been better, i dont get that. was soul caliber better on the PS3 than 360,NO!! this is the same company that made that game. it probably went multiplatform for the reason of trend, they might have seen that tekkens sales numbers were going down with every new release so they decided it was probably the best thing to do.I cant understand how a game BUILT for the PS3 was GIMPED for the PS3 because the 360 version looks or performs better. maybe the developer just isnt as PS3 capable as other devs, but you guys always try an blame it on the 360.half of ya'll ain't even gamers.

11 - Tekken 6 is a letdown
What Scamco where thinking? The core game is pure gold, but online doesnt work and campaign mode would be better as a mini-game like in previous tekkens, they wasted all resources in a 360 port.

I dont see whats wrong with the visuals, and the game isnt as stagnant as SF, maybe many people don't know how to play enough to see the changes.

I'm on the fence to get rid of the game, hoping for a online patch :(

11.2 -
That's the thing that saddens me here . i dont care if it's exclusive or not , i doubt it was much of a factor , as the arcade game is hardly any better graphically wise , and as both version looks good .

The beef some people have , beyond their own fanboyism , is that the game took as much time as say FFXIII , and yet it only looks miles ahead of Tekken 5DR in 3 points :

-Lightnings and the Backgrounds . This is really the realisation part that shines , the stages and characters literally lit up under the scrutiny of so many light effects and they are really well done . The stage themselves got quite a few great animations and designs .

-The fluidity of the game . Past recent tekken had a tendancies to be too fast paced (tekken 4) or too slow . In a few it was particularly annyoing to go so slow , when you're stuck in the air while the opponent juggles you for some really lenghty time .
Now i feel that the game is a decent mix of straightforward and brutal fighting , and finesse .

Still the end result shouldnt have taken that long . tekken 6 is a game that still looks in most part , aside from it's content , as something that shouldnt have been released one or two years ago . And it shows .

Anyway again , i never understood why tekken is labelled with the usual "more of the same" .

Doa didnt change as much as tekken did over the years and versions neither did Virtua Fighter , or the other 2d ... 2.5d or 3d franchise .
No other franchise bent itself backward as much as tekken did , sometimes at it's own expense . Remember when people complained there was no interaction with the walls and background unlike DOA ? It killed the gameplay of tekken 4 then before being fixed with tekken5 .

At some point you gotta ask yourself if you enjoy tekken's gameplay rather than order Namco to revolutionize it . And if not or no longer , then moves on , instead of making those unreasonable demands and expectations .
Other styles and games are there for a reason , i dont see the point of wishing it was virtua fighter or DOA .

Now the online part ... namco indeed deserves some slapping . but it's a symptoms of every japanese fighting game developers , besides Arc system works (blazblue ) .

They have yet to enter through their thick skulls , that input lag must go away with either GGPO code itself or a good copy of their own ... That you dont just test an online game in japan and "say oh it works fine" , when its a dream country for itnernet connection .

I'm sa to say that i'm preparing myself to be let down by Capcom as well for super street fighter 4's online . Their recent comment , unless badly translated , "that they will ensure the quality of the netcode remains with spectator added" , when sf4's code is average at best , isnt quite frightening and a bad omen so far .

Thing is they should have and that's what people expected . You dont take that long to release the same game already done before .

And you forget that they actually used to redo the whole game for consoles .

tekken tag tournament ps2 is quite superior in graphics , compared to the original tekken tag tournament in arcade . To this day the game is even still quite beautiful and could easily work with the proper Upscales and AA or bloom and blur effects .

Tekken 5 DR is quite gorgeous on PS3 and is one of the proof people add to their complains . Besides highly improved animations and lightning effects , Tekken 6 and Tekken 5 arent that different in graphics . hell some would argue T5 looks better in 1080p .

PS : i dont mind much , and i dont actually dislike the graphics . But i sure understand the people complaining about it . They obviously tried to mislead people with that t6 ps3 teaser around the console's release , and they didnt take advantage of either the ps3 or 360 much .

The complains still got a point , Soul calibur 4 is older and looks better . And that's worse given it's the same company for both

@Baka soul calibur always looks better because tekken is 60FPS and soul calibur 30. Tekken is way more competitive so i don't mind as long it is fluid

There is most likely more than enough margin and juice to squeeze to do better than soul calibur 4 or at least as good looking with a fluid enough framerate .

And even so it doesnt explains T6 and t5 looking so close in graphics . Especially with T5 DR in 1080p and 60fps , even if obviously a bit less detailled and with less light effects .

Again i do not mind T6 not being a new graphical benchmark , and it looks good enough for me ... however let's not kid ourselves , the complaints about that area are quite right , and it's obvious it wasnt the tekken's team best effort in the graphics department this year .

I absolutely love the game as is , minus it's online .. but i definitely see why many would be dissapointed .

they had difficulty port the arcade version of t6br to the 360, the ps3 bluray and cell architecture was not compatible with the 360 console design. namco developed the octavia or octave multi engine for t6 and poof....inferior port on the 360 and ps3...
