Microsoft's Finally Got Game

"After Atari popularized the joystick in 1977, videogame developers spent years cramming more buttons onto the controller. Then along came Nintendo, with a motion-sensing controller for its Wii console that was less complicated, and more fun. Since Nintendo launched the Wii in 2006, it has sold more than 50 million units worldwide--about as many as its two rivals, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3, combined. "

No mention of Playstatin EyeToy for the Playstation 2....

I notice a lot of Pro Natal Articles will bypass the eyetoy and the playstation 2 for that matter in their articles.

1.2 - They won't mention...
What the bottom of an Avatar's show looks like... trust me, you DON'T want to see what it looks like. *shudders*

They also won't mention how laggy and inaccurate Natal was during live demos.

The only times when Natal actually looked good were in those prerecorded videos. The one with the family in the living room, and the one with Milo.

Yet they couldn't even get those prerecorded videos right. The water that the lady was interacting with reacted before she even got her hands close.

I pity the fools who have biten into the natal hype so early, yes it is slightly better then the pseye, but it is much larger and will cost more, not to mention it will do hardly anything different.

Well, since e3, most of the gaming medias are all over natal for some reason that escapes me.

Most of the stuff demoed either didn't really work yet or was manipulated from behind curtains. I'm referring to the video where the lady hits the screen after the ripple effect comes on screen and that Milo thingy. For now, it's only mental masturbation, since nothing as been concrete as of yet.

For some reason, the media has chosen to forget both the Playstation Eyetoy and Seaman from Sega.

1.6 - do you guys understand?
that the pseye had no marketing and no games. If microsoft can successfully implement hardcore games, unlike the wii or pseye, and support it well than they can be successful.

Yeah the hype is ridiculous but you also haven't seen enough to shoot it down yet either.

natal will have no impact in the gaming market i mean the casual gamer is already familiar with the wii the console is planted in that market, you could even go as far as to call the wii a cultural phenomenon as its currently the worlds most famous console and with the wii price cut around the corner natal is not going to affect the wii in any way

1.10 - What makes Ausbo think...
That Natal will offer hardcore experiences?

In order to provide hardcore experiences, input has to be precise and accurate. Natal is not. Eyetoy is not. The original Wiimote is not.

Hence why they came up with Wii Motion Plus, in hopes of getting rid of "waggle" and offering more precise and accurate hardcore experiences.

While Nintendo and Sony are moving forward, Microsoft is moving backwards. And that is supposed to be revolutionary?

good games ??

HELLOOOOOOOOOO
they call it casual market for a reason
yah like the wii got good games lol

"and 0 of those titles appeal to the hardcore gamer"

no one talked about hardcore gamers
and if you think that natal well appeal to hardcore gamers
you really need to re-think about that

@below
well duh
the target was NOT the hardcore gamres
the PS2 and the PS3 already got the hardcore part
" I said microsoft has to implement this into hardcore games in order to be successful."

they cant
natal is a gimmick
hardcore gamers dont like gimmicks

1.12 - LISTEN TO ME
i am saying that eyetoy and pseye did not succeed because it didn't appeal to the hardcore gamer.

@rockleex
Where did i say natal will have hardcore experiences? I DIDN't. I said microsoft has to implement this into hardcore games in order to be successful.

I am not saying natal is a godsend, i am saying that if it can do the things that the eyetoy didn't do, than it CAN be successful.

Edit: Wii actually brought forth twilight princess, and metroid. Those are hardcore experiences.

1.13 - "Wii actually brought forth twilight princess, and metroid. Those are hardcore experiences."
Yes. Nintendo was actually able to offer hardcore experiences with the original Wiimote because you're actually able to aim with the Wiimote, though very inaccurate.

A lot of the other motion gestures in those games were merely "waggle". Yet the main basis of controls for those games require the buttons and analog sticks.

The biggest role that the original Wiimote's motion sensing played in hardcore experiences was for aiming. And even then they were not accurate.

I can't say how successful Natal will be for Microsoft. But all I can say is that the hardcore crowd will no longer be praising it once it comes out.

1.14 - well Roah,
Its more than just the media, alot of devs have said they were impressed by Natal, even at TGS alot of the biggest Japanese devs were excited about Natal and all of them either said they have some great ideas or are already working with Natal. I dont recall hearing so much positive impressions of pseye from devs, also as Wxer shows above with pseye sony only intruduced shovelware, meaning if sony had been serious we would of seen some deep implementation in hardcore games. Alot of you guys say 'meh about Natal but the devs are excited, and non loyal gamers seem to have a wait and see attitude, so the fact that guys like you hate Natal doesnt really matter 'cause you dont make games and IF devs do make some good hardcore games using Natal non loyal GAMERS will happily play them.

its hard to be impressed when the only features shown are glitchy examples and video hoax very poorly done, Natal is still a work in progress and even if it does deliver wat it is setting out to do no one wants another gimik so it better impress the core gamers other wise its a wasted effort, dev's will pay attention to anything they can make quick £'s or $'s out of with more mediocre games.

Well it is true the PS2 was the 1st console to make use of motion sensing technoligy that im aware of, wether they faild or just didnt push it as much as they should have is debatable, Nintendo made the right choice going with the wiimote thats been proven by all the sales unfortunatly theyre not catering to the needs of the majority hardcore gamers, with the PS3 and 360 bringing out there own motion sensors we may see some unique games making use of what motion sensors can realy do for the hardcore gaming market.

No mention of the Z-cam, and how it was basically an improved Eyetoy/PSEye? And that Natal is basically a Z-cam (not the pioneer of motion capturing hardware utilized in controlling videogames)?

I hope every other Pro-Natal blogger starts doing some research being writing this stuff up.

Not a terrible article, but it's surely a sign of things to come.

4 - One thing I would like to know about Natal is
If I point or gesture to a certain area on screen, can Natal track and accurately highlight that area?

For example if I were playing Republic Commando with Natal and I wanted Sev to take up a sniper position in a certain spot. Could I just point to the spot with my hand and bark out orders to my troops without having to put my crosshairs on the position.

I'm not talking about a cursor that tracks my hand, but more like point and click kind of thing you know?

6 - Most of you keep saying it's the Playstation Eye...,
But Sony dropped that ball a long time ago. Sony could have made the Eye far more better status than what it is today. Now MS picked up where they left off. I saw the tech demo's for the PSEye on the PS2 and it was amazing. Why did Sony ceased on innovating on it?!

But they haven't *DONE* anything with it yet. That's the point.

They might advertise the sh*t out of it, but if they cant raise the level of quality above that of Eyetoy games, interest in Natal is going to nose-dive harder then the Eyetoy did. Meanwhile Sony's making a 2-3rd push with the Eyetoy, so any momentum Natal gets will also make the Eyetoy popular.

6.2 - Yeah, I've gotta agree with this.
And on top of all that, who the hell wants to play their games with no controller? Not me, I'll tell you that.

I watch those guys holding a pretend steering wheel and pressing on pretend gas pedals and go, "Huh. That looks like far more trouble then it's worth."

When I get home from a hard day at work, the last thing I want to do is jump around my living room. I want to sink into my couch, grab a controller and blow things up. Games are what I do to relax and Natal doesn't look relaxing.

But I can certainly see how there's an audience for this tech, I'm just not one of them.

Ultimately, I'll have to wait and see how they use it but so far they haven't really shown anything I'd be interested in.

6.3 - darkride, I think you might be getting the wrong impression.
I cannot even imaging playing games without a wireless controller. Natal is noting but a user-friendly tech for all ages. I cannot see myself playing Call of Duty with Natal. MS is trying to touch all aspects with the 360 making it multimedia gaming console for everyone. I truly don't think that MS is concentrating on making Natal to take the controller spot for gaming. I'm like you, I cannont be jumping around like a fool after a hard day.

In my opinion, Sony can get the jump on Natal is to make Arcade games right now before Natal launches. Get some small Indie companies out there like on Xbox Live has for the PSEye. "DO THIS NOW" and get some gears going for Dev's to see what the people want.

Now fanboys are going to argue with a guy who actually play with Natal. They are saying that what he experienced is not true, because they saw lag in an internet video. That is some funny sh!t right there. Hilarious
