Kameo 2 Was in Development: Cancelled in Late 2007

Split-Screen: "On June 8th 2008, Rare senior software engineer Nick Burton stated that Kameo: Elements of Power (and Perfect Dark Zero, another Rare title exclusive to XBox 360) had "made a lot of money" for the company in a profession where, "If you break even you're lucky, you're in the minority. Now, it's come to light that Kameo was indeed due for a sequel, but was cancelled in late 2007. This happened nearly 2 years after the release of the original."

WHY DOES MS ALWAYS CANCEL THE COOLEST NEW RARE GAMES????? first conker 2 and now this... why did you even bother buying them if all you wanted was viva pinata and banjo kazooie?

Don't forget Perfect Dark: Zero and Grabbed by the Ghoulies. It's sad, but Rare was at a time one of the most forward-thinking and fun developers out there. And if Kameo 2 looked this intriguing, I'd definitely be hyped about it. Regardless, since it was cancelled about 2 years ago, this just must be another foot note in MS's production diary - along with the closures of FASA and Digital Anvil.

It's sad what has happened to Rare under Microsoft's acquisition. They're a mere shadow of their former self from the Nintendo days.

Rare should have stayed their own company so M$ would have paid them $50 million to make Banjo Kazooie a 360 exclusive. Instead, now they've turned into garbage thanks to M$ control.

FU*K YOU MS!!
I've been so long waiting for a sequel because I LOVED the first one. It's the best RARE game this gen followed by Viva Pinata, and now MS cancels it, most probably because of Avatar or any Natal sh*t. Once again F*CK YOU!!

I liked Kameo, it wasn't a great, but it was a good start.

EDIT:Rare going to MS was its worst move it could take. Should have stayed at Nintendo.

Probably nothing.

MS seems to like dumping crap on Rare. Honestly they should have stayed with Nintendo

So MS makes them Cancel the good games like Kameo and Conker and makes the Sh.t out stuff like Viva pinata and a Gay banjo Game?

MS is really going downhill as the years goes by.

Real talk

Viva Pinata and Banjo were good games, they didn't sell very well unfortunately, people have made some really creative gardens, vehicles, etc in those games (see Youtube).

I played banjo and I hate the new one compared to the Old ones.

they changed the direction of the game to a Collect parts racer game.

which made me Very very mad.

Viva Pinata is a great game for those that like that kind of stuff. I put it right there next to games like Lil Big Planet. And Kameo is up there next to Ratchet but much better gameplay. 2 great titles in Rare's impressive lineup.

I just want Conker 2 and Killer Instinct.

Kameo had smooth controls, fresh gameplay, innovative characters and story. It is my #1 platformer for this gen along with Uncharted. Suck it. I absolutely loved Kameo.

Like someone else said, they need to rethink not making a Kameo sequel.

I agree with the guy up top a bit.. The good ole' glory days of RARE releasing one top notch title (one after another ... after another) seemed to deflate at an alarming rate once the company came under the wing of Microsoft. They made old-school fans breathe a sigh of relief in the new gen with Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero, and then... what? Viva Pinata? Now, now a good game in it's own right, it just wasn't aimed towards the same crowd as a lot of their other games. (personal opinion)

The original kameo isn't exactly my particular cup of tea; but damnit the game was excellent either way. Fantastically realized characters, colorful, goofy, entertaining story, and even though i had to put down my shotgun to don a fairy character strait out of "Peter Pan and the Land of the Questionably Gay", I didn't care, Kameo was the shiz.

I guess the point of this rant is... It's a good thing RARE had to close the door on Kameo 2 (wether or not it was at the hands of Microsoft, I am unsure..) because what kind of world would we live in if creative, forward (n further) thinking game developers were allowed to spill their creative juices all over the place with original ideas? (sarcasm kids, .. poured on thick.)

My god, if that were the case we would have way too many games trying new things; interesting - innovative - "crawl inside your head and take a dump of excellence" type ideas...

No, instead we get the same releases attempting the same "seen-it-all-before garbage". (Of course not all of them, a few damn good gems of vidjea game playin' excellence show up occasionally.. but it's few n far between.)

9 - If Microsoft is stopping Rare from making the games that they want to make then they are making a huge mistake and Rare should do like Bungie and go independent
Rare is still a good developer. And since they said their games made a lot of money that means that the gamers appreciate and buy their titles and Microsoft should give them the freedom to make whatever they want to make. Also Rare helps add diversity to microsoft's game lineup by covering a wide range of genres with titles like viva pinata, kameo, conker's bad fur day, perfect dark, banjo, etc. A lot of people still consider the 360 a "shooter box" because of how hard they push halo and gears but they are missing an opportunity to push titles that come from their other 1st and 2nd party developers like rare and mistwalker.

This to me is saddening Kameo is a great game. It might have been a little short for my tastes but the game was great fun. I just hope MS will rethink this and make a Kameo 2. Plus if the game can be longer too that would also be great. I really think if Kameo could be turned into a franchise and open up the world it could be great. Plus make the co-op work greater then Kameo could truly shine and could become a great series. Because if you saw the ending of Kameo you know it is just begging for a sequel. So I really hope some day there will be one. Because Kameo could be great if given the chance.

16 - MS cancelled it?
WHy are people saying MS cancelled it? Did i miss something in the article? Personally I think Rare cancelled it themselves, just like Rare decided themselves to murder Banjo...
I'm still hoping for a true Banjo-sequel...

Rare don't have control over what they do. They can pitch ideas to Microsoft and then they give the go-ahead. But they themself can't decide to just stop making a game.
