Review: Guitar Hero Van Halen | GamesAreEvil

GrE writes, "NOTE: I know what you are thinking: "But Gabriel, the release date for GH: Van Halen is December 22nd, silly!" Well, thanks to the generosity of Activision, I was able to get my ever-twitching hands on a copy of the game WAY early.

Whatever you have to say about Neversoft's style of making music games, you've got to hand it to them: they are some prolific mothertruckers. This year alone they have pumped out more Guitar Hero games than you can count on one hand. In all honesty, it's surprising these guys get enough sleep to be able to put out so many games, especially considering that all them are all of at least decent quality."

4 - i hope this, TH:Ride, and DJ hero flop...
so that activision can stop milking these franchises and get more creative. Seriously, they've had like 8 guitar hero games this year. if thats not milking i dont know what is.

I don't get the appeal of these games. I think that playing the actual instruments is much more satisfying and enjoyable. I hate that f-ing clicking noise the guitar makes.

I agree and understand where your coming from because I've been playing guitar for over 10 years now.
However I enjoy these games and rent them only, because I feel they are great finger exercises especially going from the game to an actual guitar. I havnt bought any of these games since guitar hero 3. But considering Van Halen is one of my all time favs I will be buying this regardless of being from activision or not. I'd love to warm up to some van halen before I break out my real axe and jam away.

7.2 - Pick up a real instrument you guys, we need it!
I highly agree man, especially being a long time drummer here. Pick up a real instrument people! The world is in desperate need of real musicians again. When was the last time you had a big new band come out today like VH? Market is flooded with all this safe cookie cutter bullsh@t like Jonas Bros and Emo crap! I wont mention rap cuz that aint even music, its other peoples sampled music! Ive never played any of the GH games, but i do approve of the exposure it will give real bands like these to new gen of kids. They are being deprived of what kick @ss real music is out there. You have to search for real music these days, bottom line! Alot of amazing sh@t came outta the 80s for the simple fact that you were allowed all the freedom in the world to create whatever sound you wanted. Nowadays, you are not allowed that kind of freedom. You will be told what to play and how to sound or you will not get a record deal! Music aint about sampling someone elses song and then putting a rhyme to it like all these stupid rappers. That aint music, they are flat out stealing and making money off someone elses work! That is bullsh@t and wrong! Most of these rappers arent smart enough to come up with there own music, thats why they steal and sample! Its easier for em and less work and they want that money. They dont care about the music. Its a slap in the face to real black artists like Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes etc.
