The 360 had the hardcore appeal to it. Slowly over time that appeal is vanishing and once the dust settles all you will see is people flailing their arms around.

I'm laughing right now at all the people who mocked Wii motion controls and the PS3 Eye, and now they're jumping for joy at the idea of "virtually" giving Marcus Fenix a nice big bro-hug while they play Gears 3.

I can't wait to come home from a hard day and jump around my living room like a hyperactive toddler, ducking behind furniture and holding my fingers like a pretend gun.

"Pewww Peewww! Take that, Horde! Pewww, pewww! Now I'm hiding behind my ottoman! Can't see me, nasty Horde!"

Oh wait. That's not the game I want to play at all.

Read the god damn article people not 1 place in his quotes does he actually say anything about a gears of war title having Natal support. He said future games they make will support it he says NOTHING about GOW! The poster of the article from the original website is just guessing. He clearly states the ENGINE will support it I quote "I have no idea where we're going from a game standpoint, but from an engine standpoint, it's definitely cool stuff and we will support it". There you have it. They will add Natal support to the unreal engine obviously as they hire this engine out to other devs and it would be madness not to add support for it. Thye are not saying they are adding it to the new Gears game

This kind of article is the sport of hit seekers and flamebaiters. It just proves further that you can take a quote and put it in any context so long as you're willing to stretch the truth. This is almost an outright lie.

-The REAL question asked-

Q: "Are you currently focusing on allowing your licensees to use Natal better, or have your studios had any time to start experimenting with the dev kits?"

A: "Actually, we're just sitting down with them in the next two weeks I think, to bring our studio guys in to have a look. I have no idea what we're going to do from a game standpoint, but from an engine standpoint, it's definitely cool stuff and we will support it. I think any future Xbox games we make will have some Natal support. We always want to have something that exploits the unique capabilities of a platform."

-The question asked specifically about Gears and Natal-

Q: "Do you think Natal has applications for traditional hardcore games, such as Gears of War or Halo?"

A: "Yeah, I can totally see myself sitting in front of my TV using Natal to play games like Gears of War, Call of Duty, or whatever first-person shooter with my buddies. I want to do a hand signal that tells my friend, "Go over there." Instead of even saying it on Live, I just want to motion, "Go over there." Or if I want to throw a grenade, I just lift my right hand off the controller, throw the grenade, then put my hand back on the controller.

I don't think we're going to change the hardcore experience that so many people love so well. Look at Gears of War, we sold over 11 million games - people clearly like that kind of experience. Call of Duty sells millions every time it ships. People clearly enjoy that experience. You wouldn't change Halo, but you could, if you had Natal, at least to simplify some of the controls.

In other words, you could get away with a simpler control scheme, as it's really easy to remember throwing a grenade when it's really throwing. I can see that working in multiplayer games, then you get your hand right back on the controller and keep playing, stuff like that, maybe a wave, maybe a taunt. I'm sure that when more people have this technology you'll see some of the hardcore games adapt to it.

But I don't think it's necessary, I don't think that's their goal, I don't think you need Natal for that kind of game. The thing I like is selecting your movies by swinging your hand, right and left, that just seems so natural and obvious, and that's kind of what you do with your own DVDs, you go, "Uhh, which do I want?"

A lot to read, I know. But if you're not here to read news on News 4 Gamers, I don't know why you bother showing up.

1.14 - Calm Down
Game designers arent stupid, christ theyre gamers like all of us. They know its not fun to dance around and pretend to be in cover. Im intrested to see what they do but the article makes out intergration will be minimal. I just wish people would calm down, no one is going to dance round the room for hardcore games and they know this.

Natal is not the same thing as the wiimote or eyetoy. It's controller less which is completely different. Eyetoy and wii mote are nothing more than 360 and ps3 wireless controllers with a different shape. There's a lot of potential here which hopefully one day you understand.

It's going to me a day to figure out what is making the PS3 fanboys mad this time.

It would be nice to give voice commands to the AIs in Gears of War 3 and other Epic games.

EDIT

I figured it out and posted the answer in the original comment. The PS3 fans are mad because they hate Natal and Epic said "Future Epic games will have Natal support" excluding possible future PS3 games or PS3 versions of them.

just because the game will have natal support does not mean the game will be made wrong. I mean even after all the glitches and stuff it could be retarded but no one ever put a gun to your head and said you have to play the game using natal. No one ever said its mandatory. Especially in a big game like gears I doubt natal will be mandatory.

1.26 - It could be cool; You're talking about Epic; They are above average at controls
I say above average because the motion controls for UT III on the PS3 had mixed results: the hooverboard had excellent controls, but the redeemer controls were too sensitive.

So i am confident if done right, it could be above average to excellent, depending on the degree of integration they choose to implement; although I will hate to see how many people might throw their controllers into their televisions on accident.

you play like you always did but then coming across access terminals and using your hands to simulate pressing in key codes. It isnt like they will make this into a holodeck game (although...that would be cool too) but rather at certain points require virtual input instead of watching a cut scene doing it for you.

By removing some things you press a button for and making them more interactive lets the devs use the buttons for more meaningful purposes.

Man, the haters just want to hate even if it is something that they will never play themselves.

They might be laughing at you, instead of with you.

People should wait and see what Natal has to offer before declaring it a failure. Why do people who clearly favor the ps3 side of the fence hate Natal so much? Why not avoid Natal news when you've already made it clear the last time you commented on Natal that you don't like it?

Great post JOY.

Why would you want to let go of your controller while playing Gears to do a hand signal? That's just suicide or just having your body asked to be chainsawed.

Are you being serious? Nevermind the fact that Gears is a tactical shooter where you move from cover to cover, and thus you could give voice and yes hand signals while doing so, but really thats sort of a really weak criticism imo, since not every moment in anygame do you have to be holding the controller with both hands at all times, I've played my fair share of games on every platform and never played a game that intense, besides if its built from the ground up with Natal it should be a seemless part of the gameplay experience and a wave of the hand only takes a second.

I'm just wondering howsomething gimmicky like Natal or Eyetoy would work in a shooter game. My guess is that it doesn't work, and is just used in order to promote Natal's "many uses".

who said anyone was jumping for joy? Im a Gears fan and i certainly do not want this. I do not want motion controls for gaming, it imprecise and feels less competitive. I dont want my arms to be all up in the air when i plan my games. I chose the 360 over the Wii because i hate motion controls. So why is Microsoft not acknowledging the decision customers made when they purchased a 360? Hardcore owners are the Xbox's core strength, and over the past couple of years they have not been catering to the hardcore fans like they should.

Why the hate and the games not even here. If they do something dumb with it yes by all means call it out. However if they enhance GOW and makes a something cool i'm all for it.

I'm going to sit back and let them do there job which is to inovate and create a good game for me to play. As a customer I will tell them if I like it or not when I play the game.

This better just be an OPTION an OPTION nothing more, better not be mandatory because at the sametime it freaking awesome if they can pull it off.

What im starting to think tho is companies are going to incorporate both motion and controller at the same time. EX. you move and shoot with the controler but yell commands or motions to do other stuff that you do not have enough buttons on the controller to do.

interesting..

this to me means more that the next xbox console is closer than we think

first the ballmer slip up of the next console release..

then the pricing of natal like a console comment

microsoft likes to copy but they want to be first next console gen, so even if nintendo and sony dont need to enter the next generation, microsoft would and say they are the next generation

and epic said there will be no gears of war until the next console generation, that it would use unreal engine 4 that will not be ready until the next gen of consoles, and now if the next gears is going to use natal coming out next year, then one could assume new gears and console winter 2010/2011?

3.1 - the "PRICING LIKE A CONSOLE"
article MERELY said that it would have price cuts similar to how a console gets the same treatment, NOT that it would enter the market at a console pricepoint.

Between that misleading title and now this one, this place has become like DIGG... people just read the headlines and comment on what they assume the damn article was talking about

what the hell.
