Personally i never though the Halo series was all that great. The appeal of the game seems very much geared towards children perhaps thats why kids play it so much but it still carries a mature rating. The multiplayer is nice and basically there was nothing as solid on the Xbox or PS2 at the time but back then i wasn't really into shooters so i could care less. I already beat Halo 3 and played a bit of multiplayer and i have to say the game is rather average to me. Nothing spectacular or worth perfect scores but thats just my opinion. I felt the same way about Halo 1 when i played it back when it first came out.

That being said Halo ODST looks significantly better than Halo 3 and i am EXTREMELY tempted to buy. At the end of the day one of my friends will probably get it and i'll just play it on their 360

Just watched the gametrailers TV episodes.

ODST does look better than Halo 3.

I am especially interested in the firefight mode.

1.3 - Best Halo ever...
That's a bold statement. Halo 1 is still regarded as one of the best FPS games ever (and rightfully so). So saying that ODST is better than what's regarded as one of the best games ever?

Well, that's a bold statement.

No doubt it's gonna get some great reviews though.

Hope you like short campaigns and recycled multiplayer.

Of course every new HALO game that comes out is gonna be rated the best HALO game ever. They said exactly the same thing about HALO 3. Typical fan crap TBH HALO 3 was average and this one looks worse. Its not got Master Chief so its like Tomb Raider without Lara Or Metal Gear without Snake it won't be better than the originals you can bet on that.

1.7 - sometimes...
the expansions seem to offer more to the story than the original. At least from a different point of view within the same story that is. I like Half life but the two official expansions Opposing force and blue shift are really well done. I especially liked the crossing paths with gordon freemen from the original.

Any, on to halo: odst. This game is set before the events of #3 so I think they should drop the # on the game and just call it halo: odst. It looks really promising. Like a crossing paths type of noir with each member doing something different in another part of the city. all leading the the final meeting of them again. I like it. I think it will do well on its own.

You may call it an expansion but that would be true if you actually needed the original in order to play (much like pc games). This is a stand alone play through of areas you never even were part of in halo 2 so it is a totally different game. Tactical and a thinking game unlike the other halo's where you are master chief...running and guning to the very end.

I wouldnt call this the best because I think there is still much more to the halo universe. The possibility of chief returning in a part 4 or maybe even the migration of this series into marathon. Chief becomes the marathon man so to speak.

Despite the comments from those who arent fans (why would it matter to them anyway) I can say as a fan I am really looking forward to this game.

I thought Halo 2 had the best story of the three games. Halo 2 told the story through the viewpoints of the humans and the aliens simultaniously, which made story much deeper and more interesting. The only people who didnt like Halo 2's story were people who wanted a cliched humans-rape-aliens-and-teabag- their-bodies storyline, which Bungie ditched in exchange for a more original approach. Halo 1 and Halo 3 both had good stories too though, and it helps to read the novels to help you appreciate the overall narrative that is being told in the three Halo games. the story in the Halo series is very rich and is quickly growing in a Star Wars-like universe of imagination and depth.

ODST looks like a good expansion, and since it takes place during Halo 2 and right before Halo 3, the story sounds like it will be good seeing is how you are seeing whats going on from different angles, and you'll probably see things you didnt even know where going on before when you played through Halo 2.

Graphics look slightly improved on an outdated game engine, twist in gameplay gives the game a fresh feeling, new Firefight mode will give the game many hours of gameplay in addition to the 4-5 hour new story. In my opinion, it looks like a fine addition to a series that i love.

1.10 - you know what sucks?
the fact that no matter how incredibly average this game turns out to be...its still gonna get 9's across the board...

And that may not be an issue to some of you brainwashed goons, but it is to me.

Why? Not because i dislike the halo series and am a huge sony fanboy, but because i loved halo CE, and since that, all reviews of halo 2 and 3 would only get me super hyped, only to find that the games where at most, well, average.

It puzzles me to look at a game like uncharted, or dead space, or even infamous, which ive played through many times, and not understand why halo 3 has a higher average than those games...

I HOPE, that gaming journalists understand that most of the gaming communities have caught on to this biased trend, and they're very carefull when reviewing halo odst...

And dont even get me started on GTA4...

Now do yourself a favor and if you own a ps3 go out NOW and buy, or rent, Uncharted Drakes fortune...
That way youll see what a TRUE next gen expierience feels like, and what a truly "epic" single player campaign means.

3.2 - Not all games are great for all people.
Personally I am a huge Halo fan. I actually enjoy the story and have read the books. There are other great games I just can't seem to get into. I don't think I have made it 15 minutes into Metal Gear 4 and I'm maybe a third of the way through Killzone 2 at best. Both are very highly rated games with a huge number of fans, but they somehow don't click for me. It probably doesn't help that I have a new baby that is sucking the life out of me now, but over the winter I will be revisiting both games to give it another shot.

3.3 - I'm similar to 3.2
I have really enjoyed all the games in the Halo series so far.

I can see why many people wouldn't really 'get' it or the massive popularity - after all, many other shooters seem to have their 'thing' that makes people notice it. Killzone 2 and Crysis had their jaw-dropping graphics, Gears of War had the fantastic cover system and co-op, Bioshock had its setting, etc.

Halo's 'thing' is more the amazing tuning to the gameplay - something not overtly obvious to a spectator. The timing of the shield recharge, the impact of using melee, the 'I'm not quite 100% in control' feel of the vehicles and the way all 4 modes of attack (shooting, melee, grenades, equipment) are all available in a single button press makes each fight flow beautifully, along with the great AI.

The other thing I think the dev team behind Halo has really gotten right is the narrative awareness - I really liked Killzone 2, but half the time I wasn't really aware of what I was fighting for or where I was going - I'd just keep going and shooting. Bungie has done a great job of always making sure the player has narrative motivation in what they're doing and are aware of the larger picture behind every level and the purpose. Again, not something a spectator or someone visiting or playing on a friend's console can really notice.

This made the universe very appealing - after all, how many of the different types of enemies in Killzone 2 or Gears of War can you name? Everyone knows grunts, elites, hunters, jackals, brutes, etc as they play Halo so it makes it that bit more satisfying because you understand the enemy or have some knowledge around them and their behavior. Sound silly, but it's all a part of what makes Halo flow so brilliantly and gain a massive fanbase. It might not have the spectacles of other shooters or not seem as impressive, but individually playing from start to finish is extremely memorable and satisfying.

But of course, everyone will have different tastes - I love my shooters like Gears, Killzone 2, CoD4, HL2, etc but I'd still say Halo is series that connects with me most, and evidently a lot of other people since it's silly to try and attribute sales to just marketing - if something is marketed great but isn't a good product, there will usually be an initial sales surge and then drop off immediately as word spreads. Halo 3 has managed to keep afloat in top 10 sales on 360 and top 3 most played on Live for 2 years now, so there are a lot of people who appreciate the series and continue to play it even after other big releases.

REALgamer said it brilliantly.

Halo has a natural charm. Some may not be into that charm but the majority of gamers are. Whenever something has a universal acclaim, there are going to be haters. Halo is no exception and I have come to except that.

Dont like it? Fine by me. Just dont criticize me for liking it.

3.6 - The only Halo I liked was part 1.
Call of Duty is a much better experience.

The only reason why I feel a lot of people still like Halo is because of the customizations, and 4 player splitscreen LAN parties.

Modern Warfare 2 better have 4 player splitscreen LAN. They better allow us to fully customize our classes in splitscreen mode too. <_<

Yeah, same story here pretty much. I grew up playing online computer FPS like Rogue Spear and Counter Strike, plus N64 FPS games like goldeneye and Perfect Dark. To me Halo wasn't anything spectacular... it was good but I didn't see the "Omg best game ever" hype surrounding it.

I can certainly see how the game does get that hype when it was probably a lot of gamers first experience with a game like that. When you're young and you play a game like none you've ever played before it really blows your mind and you think of it as one of the best games ever. This is how a lot of people get that nostalgia from older games they've played.

HALO hype is simple the game doesn't need to be good... All you need is for a bunch of people you know to agree to get the game too. Since HALO is an MS franchise and has such a fake following people buy it. So if all your mates buy it thinking your gonna buy it you end up buying it anyways as all your mates buy it. Genius really. COD does exactly the same thing. It's also an average game but sells well as 1 person buys then another because his friend has it, then another and so on..

I really was never too impressed with Halo 3's single player either. I purchased it only for its competitive multiplayer, which is very good too by the way.

I already purchased all the map packs, so to me, it won't be worth it to pay $60 for an expansion to an overated single player game.

'Halo over the last 10 years has evolved into one of gaming’s biggest franchise’s. unfortunately, it has not always been the highest quality franchise" = There was only 1 good game in the series.

"Well, it seems Bungie has return to their roots with Halo O.D.S.T, and in terms of story, game play, and Epic-ness they have created a true single player sequel to the original. Finally we get a Next-Gen Halo Experience." = It's a whole lot like the 1st one.

"Bungie has put a lot of polish into the textures & lighting, they also have added a much richer color palette which makes the game look more on par with current high-end Xbox 360 games." = its not visually mindblowing...

"They also have added some things you didn’t know you missed, like the Halo 1 pistol." = Yup, A WHOLE lot like part 1

"Halo O.D.S.T re-invents the Halo experience, this is done mostly by the removal of Master Chief, however, even mores so by making you a regular O.D.S.T Trooper." = The Hand holding the gun is human this time....reinvent. lmao

"On a technical level this is nothing more than a small change in the games color, and the addition of some highlights added to outline specific elements in the environment." = LMAO...

"For the first time in years, the Halo franchise is finally going to have a triple A single player campaign, to complement its genre defining multiplayer." = there will be 2 good games in 10 years...rejoice!!!

I translated this using "nobullshitology" and dont get me wrong, i want to play it, buuuuut.....Imagine me paying anything over 10 bucks to play halo1 again, lmao

14 - Wow, I like the halo series
The presentation of halo has always been so advanced. I have played my share of First Person shooters all across the board. Halo's music has always drew me into the game, the A.I. I thought shined a lot. I.E over power your enemy they drop their weapons and run in fear.

Today, not much has changed in the Halo formula, I don't know if that's due to the limitations of the engine Bungie uses, or their "if it an't broke don't fix it mentality". I feel, and you can disagree with me, that once you have played a Halo, you have played them all. Which is not a bad thing, but whats missing from those Halo's are a sense of war like emotions, surprising visuals, and environmental interaction. Think about it, how many times has a Pelican crashed into a structure and started a chain reaction that included huge beautiful explosions, followed by a sense of enemy over powering the scene. Which include people screaming, retreating , being mutilated, structures falling all while you are battling.

How about an enemy over powering Master Chief, knocking his weapon out his hand and a button sequence starts, or being rammed off a cliff, but pressing the left and right bumpers to catch your self before you die. I think you guys get my point.

Now on to the topic at hand, like I said before if Halo ODST has the same game play and feel of Halo3 its going to be hard to call this the best Halo even though the graphics and a few maps have been improved, and added.

15 - can someone clear up a misunderstanding about "Halo great AI"
halo odst is only a rental at best!!!

the grunts are always sleeping, running away from the fight are blowing themself up. this is great AI??? the grunts were str8ght up riped from MDK!!!! check your facts on their origins if you difer then mines.

The sniper bird with the snipper rifle just walks you down with his shield/snipper rifle in in hand. what other game then dum down gears series AI does that. this is great AI???

Brute bull rush you when you smack him in the nose. this is great AI???

the "fly" thing shoot off two to three bullets then rest on the nearest wall for a 3 to 4 second nape. giving you the chance to shoot him down.... This is great AI???

just becasue you beat HALO on Lengendary mode does not mean the AI is Great. this is a lazy dev prop. instead of the dev giving the AI a new type of gun on the succeeding hardest mode like R1/R2 did; they bow out and make one hit sniper kills or half an enemie clip kills. lazy DEV in my opinion. HAlo has 4 types of enemies. a scarey cat,a rhino, wasp and a elephante. it not hard to defeat them when their AI is mush....

there is not one HALO enemie that has great AI. Please somebody name one!!!

i will be renting Halo ODST game but never buy until it is $9.99 at ebgames in 2011.
