The next Xbox isn't coming out anytime soon according to Microsoft, so the answer is no. You can't go on a 5 year hiatus and then finish off the trilogy. People would lose interest. Way too much time inbetween.

It's not about the console. It's the engine. It doesnt matter what the next console will have under the hood when it's running a the same engine. They need UE4 or UE5 to beat CryEngine 3.

They should end 360 lifecycle with Gears 3, and when Xbox720 comes out they could introduce a new IP with the same epic bang as Gears gave us few years back.

But then again, who knows when that'll be. I'm still enjoying the hell out of the current gen! :D

you've heard of sony right.... their ps2 has so far had a 10 year life cycle... meaning they still support it but they still have the ps3... i know microsoft will continue to support it for 10 years but they have to release a new console within the next 3 years....their hardware is limited and it wont be long until ps3 multiplatt games are significantly better (naughty dog is releasing info on how they made uncharted to all first party developers that will trinkle down to 3rd party developers in time)..... natal might make it last longer but its nothing big... every console has tech like natal already out the playstation eye and the addition of the wand soon and the wii... i think they should release a new console in 2011 or 1012 the latest and release gears 3 then

The UE gets updated everytime a gears come out! the last update focused on environments and distructable wall and what not. this time i'm sure gfx will be the highlight.

Uncharted 2 doesn't look any better than 1 overall. what they gained up close they lost in distance. the textures look better in 1 than in 2

now look at row 3,5,6 and 7. all have a farther draw distance in UC1 than in 2. also note 3 and 5 are gameplay not cutscenes

look at the jeans in row 6. the textures are sharper. but the look about the same in the others

IMO i think they should wait for the next Xbox and next Unreal engine. They could take 5 years to make it and do other projects on the side during that time. I mean they are not going to get anymore out of the Unreal engine/Xbox at this point. You know i will not buy the next gears if it uses the same engine. I felt cheated on Gears2 far as multiplayer and the game in general. The first Gears was a great game but 2 was lackluster.

i see what you're getting at, however i imagine the draw distance looks 'blurred' because drake is in focus...

if you look at the gameplay shown at E3 when they're on the rooftops you'll see that unless it's a close up focus shot the draw distance is huge

more videos of both i think 2 has sharper textures and the color are more vibrant! the draw distance seems to be the same. both have vista style levels which look great. both have levels with short range distance that aren't as good

and yea on 2 when you zoom in it gets blurry

I'm more of a 80/20 guy leaning towards gameplay. You don't need to have good graphics to have a good game. When I play PC games for example, I sacrifice graphics just to have a smoother game. I'd easily take that for a console game. BioShock gave you that option on the Xbox 360. It's surprising other console games don't have that.

hmm.. seems to me that Microsoft along with their anxious yet incompetent early arrival before Nintendo and Sony into the "Next Gen" era has had them "dealt all their cards" too soon as of lately and if they were to release this entire series in one generation of consoles; would there really be any sense or meaning to continue it onto the next generation, you would probably lose that WOW factor that you had when playing the first 2? hmm... take the MGS series for example and see how it has evolved from 1 console to the next with out the sense of the word "milking" it for all its got which I believe if Epic were to release this game now that's surely what most people would believe. IMO they should just w8 for the next Unreal Engine to hit within 2-3 years so that they may launch it with the next generation of the Xbox which can bring back that fire that it once had and probably still does within some consumers minds.

The reason everyone says Gears 2 maxed out the 360 is because no other game on the 360 looks better than it. While Forza 3 may look better, you can't compare a racer to a shooter.

Saaking that doesn't make much sense. Is the PS3 maxed out because lets say no game looks better than Killzone 2? Then you might say, well Uncharted 2 looks better than Killzone 2. By the same token, one can say Mass Effect 2 looks better than Gears 2, which I think is true according to the recent screenshots I've seen.

Saaking so for you it's a time thing. Between when Gears 2 came out and until Mass Effect 2 comes out, it's not Epic's fault that they outclassed everyone. That also doesn't give you the right to say Xbox 360 is maxed out. Like I said, Mass Effect 2 is already looking better than Gears 2. Forza 3 looks mighty fine and that's this holiday. Not all devs put much emphasis on graphics as much as features and gameplay. Bungie would be an example.

Gears 2 came out 9 months ago, Uncharted 2 is barely coming out. While PS3 games have been improving and showing more can be done (KZ2-Uncharted2-GOWIII) The 360's best game is STILL Gears 2. That's my point, the 360 hasn't shown much advancement in past year.

More in house proprietry engines will serve it well... sony has that advantage with about 20 studios and some of them with talented first party developers that are given enough time and resources to make their games

Yes, and that's exactly my problem with MS. They're just trying to buy their way into games instead of developing dedicated first party studios who can take full advantage of the 360 (like PS3 devs). They rely too much on third parties.

i think the reason for that is simply because back in 2005 ms didnt have as many aaa exclusive game franchises to the xbox brand as they would have wanted... and the ps3 was only a year away

the thing is sony has benefited a lot thanks to the psx and ps2... insomniac studios being a major example of that ... all the way since the spyro the dragon days they still develop only for sony... the long 3 gen stay has a major advantage for sony... while killzone 2 was being cooked up you saw metal gear solid, rachet and clank, gran turismo prologue make their returns...

but for ms to make an impact in that 1 year lead ... they needed more frnachises fast to have the xbox brand stand out... and the best way for them to get those were to pay 3rd party developers to make exclusive games using middle ware engines for their console... gears, mass effect, crackdown any square enix game ... hell we even see this trend with dlc hunting... they'll get their hands on any exclusives.. even a song from the beatles rock band

but honestly at this point i feel microsoft is actually in a good position to take its time and cook some exclusive engines and games from ms game studios ... coz this time quite frankly they have enough franchises with periodic sequels incoming... and forza 3 is hopefully the first of many to follow the trend of a combination of multi dvds and an exclusive game engine... halo reach seems to be heading that way as well.. which makes me wanna believe that we're not even halfway through the 360's life cycle

comparing uncharted and killzone are different kind of shooters a better comparison would be like haze to kz2.... but i can say i was shocked when i saw the new screen shots for mass effect 2 i am surprised they got that from the unreal engine.. the armor was amazing.... usually with the unreal engine they have beautiful backgrounds with horrible armor like gears 2....

I don't think Gears and Halo will serve as system sellers anymore.

Gears 1=5 million Gears 2=5 million. Same people bought both so Gears 3 will sell to those same people.

Halo 3 sold 10 million (1/3 the userbase) so any new Halo will probably sell to those who bought Halo 3, in other words, people who want to play Gears and Halo already have a 360.

That is pretty much the situation with the big Xbox 360 titles. The market for Xbox 360 software is pretty saturated with very little chance of new sales for the Xbox 360 exclusives like GoW.

Why the hell wait for the next Xbox? Epic can just get it over with and bring it to the PS3.

For the record, Gears 1 sold 6 million even while Gears 2 has sold 5 million but at a faster rate(4 million within 2 months of release). 11 million copies sold altogether of the Gears series.
