inFAMOUS made Prototype famous

Stevie Lim writes.... First off let me just say that I have yet to play either of these games. I will be starting inFAMOUS soon and will try and pick up Prototype if I can find it for relatively cheap, but I digress. This is about how these two games have been intrinsically linked with each other, and about how inFAMOUS made Prototype famous. Let's just say that Activision should be very grateful to Sucker Punch for releasing their game around the same time period.

Not a lot of people read these compare articles, so i don't think infamous made prototype famous or infamous.

Ads/reviews or word of mouth are what makes games famous mostly.

True but with out one then the other is just a game that came out that doesn't get fans fighting.

1.2 - Yeah
It did.

Prototype sucked.

Without inFamous there to push 360 fanboys toward Prototype...sales wouldn't have been that strong.

It was a terrible game.

Ever wonder why it sold significantly less copies on PS3? We had a better game!

Also...try Spider-man: Web of Shadows. It's much better.

"Ever wonder why it sold significantly less copies on PS3?"

Because that's usually what happens with multiplatform titles.

Prove it.

Seriously.

Prove it.

The 360 version usually outsells the PS3 version of a game...Street Fighter IV being the exception.

However, Prototype sold at somewhere between a 3:1 and 4:1 ratio on 360/PS3.

Usually it's around 1.5/1. (Recently, at least)

Don't be a moron. The word "significantly" is key here.

I hope you understand that word.

@1.6 - I have no idea what you were trying to prove with that comment, it still makes you look like an idiot. Go tell your parents to buy you a PS3 so you can stop trolling and being butthurt.

inFAMOUS is one of the best games this gen, Prototype is just another mediocre game. Simple as that, that is the difference in the calibre of these two titles.

@1.9 - You know that's EXACTLY what I thought when I played the inFAMOUS demo. But then I took a chance on the full game, and it is soooooo much better than the demo.

Seriously if you haven't played inFAMOUS you are missing out on one of the best games this gen on ANY console. I really hope you give it a try.

1.11 - According to vgchartz
...inFAMOUS (only on PS3) has outsold Prototype (PS3 and 360 combined) for the last two weeks. Prototype's sold about 9K each on PS3 and 360, while inFAMOUS has sold ~23K on just the PS3. Looks like this week Prototype did slightly better, though.

Of course, inFAMOUS was released earlier...

1.12 - Why are people still on about inFAMOUS vs. Prototype?
Seriously, it was annoying when it first started, and it still is now. There's nothing to be fighting about anyway. You don't have to attack someone just because they liked inFAMOUS or Prototype and you didn't. And as far as sales go, does it matter? Last time I checked, sales figures don't make a good game. God, just let it go already!

inFamous is a fantastic game!

Prototype was...well...pretty bad. I'm sure a few people liked it, but to me it wasn't really that fun.

It had a few cool moves, but...I'll be honest. Spider-man: Web of Shadows did the action WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better! It more than made up for the terrible voice acting too.

Prototype's cliche storyline and less-than-spectacular one-liners were like a B-movie from Hell. (Huge Bruce Campbell fan here...)

O_o I said Haze was great?

I seem to remember playing the demo and being extremely disappointed.

Listn, man. I'm a gamer. I'm not like you.

I play a good game, no matter what system it's on.

inFamous was a great game.

Prototype was not.

It's pretty simple, really.

I bought Gears 2 and Resistance 2 at the same time. Gears 2's campaign was INCREDIBLE! Resistance 2's was...pretty lackluster.

See?

YA SEE?!?!?

Oh my GAWD! Heaven forbid someone like games on TWO systems!

Grow up. Haze was two years ago. People mature.

5 - Infamous...
sure beat the hell out of prototype. I found Prototype boring after about an hour. And that hold down one button to skip over everything and launch up a wall. Lame.

Sure Infamous has its draw backs. For me not many if any, but looking at it for a wider audience I could see some casual gamers finding a couple of the repetitive side missions, (i.e destroy the sensor alarms on the buildings) a bit boring. To be honest I found them a nice little distraction from all the action. buts that's just me.

I tried prototype for 2 hours on PC . i found out that i dislike th graphics ( sorry but infamous effects are better ).

While the overall world is somewhat fun ... it can became confusing ..and why do i need to re equip each ( upgrade weapon )as soon i a touch anything in that menu ?

Infamous 2 paths provided way more diversity in the story ...even with the side missions ... ( destroying the sensors on some building didn't annoy me since i can jump and travel almost anywhere )

Overall infamous is a much better experience for me while prototype is not bad at all , just not for my tastes ( IMO Jump kick on helicopters is great , if only i didn't like the animation)

InFamous was great. The only way it helped Prototype sales was in pushing 360 fanboys (who I believe to be a small amount of 360 owners) into buying the game for no reason other than the fact that they didnt have InFamous on their system.

I think each game sold on its own, due to hype or word of mouth or whatever.

Just got the platinum for InFamous and I loved every minute of it (except finding every single blast shard. Got a little lucky with that though)

I've played both games, and both had their positives and negatives.

I preferred the storyline in inFamous and hunting for blue orbs and satellites. Though I found the super powers to be a tad unoriginal, with the exception of the last power.

Prototype's story was pretty simple and was able to figure out the twist a mile away. I found the super powers to be well done and somewhat original, though shame it was all melee based.

for myu it is cole, the infamous version of him, and after gaining a sh¡t load of powers by activating the ray sphere twice and have enough time to practice he gain a power similar to that of Kessler time travel power, and started killing of each version of himself so he could be unstoplable, or just with Kessler so he could go back in time, and give you powers, that my guess

13.5 - My take.
Watch the ending video.

Kessler is sporting the advanced powers of neutral Cole,he left Empire City prematurely with girlfriend and friend and he never got the chance to "fine tune" his powers according to his actions due to not intervening in the chaos of Empire City. His powers are white (neutral)

Alternate history Cole shows up. Bad Cole. The Cole who stayed around and took over. Eventually acquiring the abilities to time-skip he destroyed Kesslers reality forcing HIM to time-skip and kick-start Coles gaining of power to train him up for the time The Beast gets to grips with him.
I'm pretty sure Good Cole will be taken as canon for the purpose of the sequel.

All of the signs point to Cole being the Beast. His build, his shaved head, his body shape and the red eyes.

It's the usual stubborness I always see with Xboix 360 owners. They would buy Prototype no matter how high or low it scored. Rather then admit that Infamous is great, they would rather hang on to Prototype just to prove to PS3 owners that our system is crap. Everytime we get an exclusive they hang on to what ever multiplayer game is similar to it and try to put down the PS3 game at all cost. Xbox 360 owners will rather die then admit that Sony has the goods.

15 - Dual console owner here...
...and I bought inFamous at $60, played through it twice and had a blast playing it both times.

I bought Prototype used at GameStop for 360, using a 20% off coupon, and a $25 giftcard (taking surveys online), beat it once, started a second game for some achievements, and then sold it to a buddy at work. It was a solid game and had an interesting story, but the gameplay and enemies were so cheap sometimes. It felt like they crammed way too many moves and powers in, and I didn't even use half of them.

inFamous was more refined and polished and was just a better overall game.

Oh yeah, I'm a 360 owner first, and a PS3 owner second.

Does someone else thinks the same will happen with God of war 3 and Dante's inferno, that there will be tons of GOW 3 vs DI.
I know that DI is a rather shameless copy of the GOW formula, but there loads of people out there who will say DI is not copying GOW(yes it is), and if it is copying it made the gameplay better than GOW ever was (I don't think), it is obvious that GOW had it time with us, and any gamer with hes barin in his cranium would at least realise some of the above, but fanboys tend to live in such denial they can twist and spin their reality to see what they want to see
EDIT: @Datruth, ok sory i make similar points, but I wanted to know if anyone believes teh same will happen with GOW 3 and Dante's inferno

So does that mean GTA made The Getaway series, the True Crime series, the Saint's Row series and nearly every other sandbox game famous?

Fail article is fail. Both games are different, the only thing they have in common is sandbox gameplay. InFamous never made Prototype 'famous' at all. The only reason why InFamous comes up whenever Prototype is mentioned (Or vice versa) is because 360 and PS3 fanboys fight over both games.

EDIT: How come no one compared Cool Boarders 4 to Tony Hawk's Skateboarding when they were released way back in '99? Or DMC and GoW?
