Reassuring: Alan Wake is 'done,' being polished

Joystiq writes: "Remedy Managing Director Matias Myllyrinne tells Joystiq that Alan Wake is finished and getting all gussied up for its release next spring. After a GDC Europe presentation on how Remedy handles intellectual property, we asked the executive if the long-in-development title would be ready to wake when the snow melts. Myllyrinne noted, "It's all done, we're just polishing at this point."

...they are waiting to release it simultaneously with GOW3. This should keep 360 only owners distracted enough to miss the hype and not buy a PS3.

Too bad you're spewing your trash in a 360 article. I didn't say which console would have a better year. hell, some games are not even announced from MS first party for next year.

Modnation Racers? I'm not even interested in that game. GoW3 is the only game I'm even looking forward for the PS3 in 2010.

Great news! I love when games get months of polish. Remedy are amazing developers and I have high hopes for Alan Wake. I love the premise and the graphics and gameplay look outstanding. It's funny, but early next year looks to be more packed with big games for the 360 and PS3 than this holiday season.

i love how you guys have to attack what i just said to defend your console

your telling me FF13 and 14 wont be released the same year but its expected next year then Necroplasm said that MS first party exclusives havent been announced but MS has no First parties lol

but yes your right some havent been announced but then again same goes for the ps3 and why does everyone on this website have to be a fanboy

at the end of my post you guys should of saw i was giving credit to both consoles

Nobody is attacking you, they just don't agree with you. I don't agree with you.

I like both consoles and I think so far the PS3 has had a better year this year, but next year it looks like the 360 will have a better year in my opinion. Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, Halo Reach (probably Gears of War 3 and whatever Rare is working on and other unannounced stuff). I simply don't see how what has been announced for the PS3 equals that lineup. I just don't. God of War 3 is going to be big, and Heavy Rain and MAG have potential, but not much else has been confirmed for next year. At least not the kind of AAA games that the 360 has in its lineup.

white knight chronicles and final fantasy versus 13. Versus may or may not make a U.S. release, but i'm thinking it may be released in Japan.

The last guardian may be released next year annnd I have no idea when agent will be released, but I must say that does put up competition for 360's line-up.

Mass Effect 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction are not even exclusives, also on PC. Xbox has nothing, just the semi new halo and Alan Wake. Remedy is a good developer but, Alan Wake does not look good at all. Alan Wake was most disappointing game of E3 2009, so that kind of tells you that its pretty bad.

There's no doubt in my mind that there will be a PC version. I'm just pissed that MS pulled the plug on the PC version after like 3 or 4 years of it being a flagship PC title. Microsoft are shooting themselves in the foot.

@pandamobile

so basically MS cannot do anything right. If the game comes to console then all the sony boys never stop claiming that it is not exclusive. But if Ms makes it exclusive, then the PC boys say that "ms is shooting itself in the foot."

here in N4G MS never wins and everything it does is wrong.

wow.

@pandamobile

is see your point and appreciate your response.

but if MS is competing with Sony, and the 360 is their money maker, then it makes more sense to me to make it exclusive for the 360. specially if their alleged lack of exclusive games is hurting them (something i dont agree with) But if you truly are a PC gamer and not a Sony SDF poser, then i agree that it sucks that they canceled the game u wanted to play in your PC.

2.8 - PC guys have every right to be pissed off at ms
for this ... this was a major pc title 2 years ago ... i think they even showed off the game for intel quad core processors with vista ... i'm quite certain that this game will come out for pc simply becasue this is remedy we're talking about but the release will be 6 months or maybe even a year after the 360 release ...

i think micrsoft is catching onto the fact that people play their 360 games on pc and avoid the console all together... but one of the reasons i like ms was because of that... last gen the xbox and pc lived quite happily together... and i had no reason to buy the original xbox coz of that ... but now with gears 2, fable 2, halo 3 and alan wake becoming 360 only even after having a prequel or history with the pc... its just doesnt feel right...

It's one thing if the game was originally slated as a 360 exclusive, but it wasn't.

It was announced as a flagship title for DX10 PC's with a 360 version coinciding.

Tell me you'd be pleased if MS had canned the 360 version instead.

Microsoft ARE shooting themselves in the foot with this. Remedy is a PC developer with a huge fanbase on PC. This was one of those games I would rush out and buy on the first day because of Remedy's previous titles being so damn awesome. Microsoft is going to lose a huge chunk of revenue.

@Marcelles

I don't get what you're saying.

2.10 - @ziriux I hate it when people
say that, because it is still exclusive even if its on PC because its one more title for a certain console and one less for another like MASS EFFect And LEft for dead the only reason people say that is because it basically cuts the 360 lineup in have

If i cant play it on my ps3 why would i pay 700 dollars for a PC when i can get a 360 for 200 its stupid

the decision for the game to stay exclusive to 360 or not now lies in MS's hands and not in Remedy's hands anymore. It's not their choice.

Duh. Remedy was pissed off at Microsoft's decision too. Remedy at their core are PC gamers. Their CEO said he was pissed that he wouldn't be able to play it on his gaming rig.

According to Microsoft, PC is too popular of a platform to do simultaneous 1st party releases on 360 and PC.

3 - I dunno...
For some reason I'm really psyched about this game. It looks somewhat involved and, in my opinion, there's a lack of "involved" games on consoles nowadays...

I personally enjoy games like Indigo Prophecy and Silent Hill. Ones that push the imagination as far as story and interaction go...not so much twitch movements.

This is a genre I hope the 360 pursues. Having a story that plays more like a novel is something that I always look for in a gaming experience. Gamers are getting older and with this age comes a maturity and desire for more fulfilling experiences. I think Alan Wake and Mass Effect are great starts to an older generation of gamers.

Well if that new rumor is true, you could get an Elite at $299. That's a great price, and this game is not out for like half a year, maybe they drop the price more to keep it under the price of a PS3.

@ above.....yeah but I already gave $400 for the MGS PS3 pack...$300 is still high for me. I think I will just wait and maybe something will happen Black Friday this christmas...or some retailer can have some crazy deal for $200 or lower. Because I don't really want Halo...and gears seems interesting but I don't wanna shell out $300 for Gears, Alan, and Mass Effect =/, but if Microsoft takes the story driven game play approach I would love to reconsider.

Shut this user up Let user speak
Godmars290 - 126 days 23 hours ago
4.1 - What "concept" is that exactly?
the very first time it was shown it promised dramatic environmental changes from everything to night and day to a tornado ripping through town. Now its looking like Alone in the Dark. A good AitD, but still...

I don't want to put words in Ziriux's mouth..but I think he means the idea of the story...I mean look at story's in games now a days....you have a bad guy...he wants to take over the world...you save the girl...you kill the bad guy...end of story. But people are comparing the story to Silent Hill...Silent Hill 2 drags you so deep into the story I really think it is the best Video Game Story.

And that's what older more mature gamers are looking for now. I mean I personally had my fix of run and gun games, so having the idea of a story driven game is very appealing to me.

4.4 - How is it not treading AitD/SH territory?
Average Joe experiences paranormal events in ever growing occurrence as he seeks a loved one. How is that not Alone in the Dark or Silent Hill at their most basic? In what way is Alan Wake different?

I'm not saying its going to be exactly the same, that it wont be good to great, I just want to know what other than its initial showing as a PC showcase title - which it no longer is - makes it attention worthy?

HL2 Episode 3 is a PC game with a 360 port. Lol at the thought of Valve making a 360 exclusive.
