New District 9 Trailer from Halo 3 Short Film Director

Neill Blomkamp, the chap who created the awesome live-action Halo 3 short films, has released the latest trailer for his new major motion picture "District 9". The film is being produced by Peter Jackson and is being released on August 12th in the US. The same style of gritty imagery used in the Halo shorts has also spilled over into the film.

...and using Manson's version of Sweet Dreams was a nice touch. I'm not a Manson fan, but when I first heard his rendition (during House on Haunted Hill's opening)...I was like..."WTF? THAT'S AMAZING!"

I want to see Gamer too.

8 - WHY WHY WHY didn't they green light this guy to finish the Halo movie!

The short film footage was amazing and now the film looks like it will be the sleeper movie of the entire summer.

The Halo footage was already amazing and I know that after this flick drops there will definately be a bidding war to green light the project.

Can wait till August 18th!

He's right up there with Jackson himself. Look out for him, JJ Abrams, and Matt Reeves in the future. They all need to get together and make one freakin' amazing movie.

For producing this movie, which looks far more interesting than the inevitable bloated summer blockbuster that Halo would be. Not hating on a Halo movie, but from what I've taken away from the game's story, it just doesn't have enough substance to support a full length feature film.

Now I've never read any of the Halo books, which people tell me are far better than the games, but it makes me wonder, why don't the games take a lesson and try and improve the story? Look at what Sony has done w/ games like Uncharted and SotC. Both those games have great stories and cinematic elements, and they are both currently slated for production. Gullermo Del Toro might even be making SotC.

The plot to Halo has more holes than a slice of swiss cheese. First off, it is severely lacking a main protagonist - Master Cheif is as generic a character as it gets. Secondly, the enviroments are extremely bland and boring. And last but not least, the creature designs are stupid. Especially those wannabe gumbas.

The games biggest fault for me is just how generic it is. Do we really need another cliche blockbuster that ends in a big war scene?(The Matrix Rev, Lotr2-3, PotC, Star Wars1-2, Terminater Sal., etc.) The Halo universe has very little personality.
