Metro 2033 (Consoles, P.C.) Might Equal Crysis (P.C.) Visually
53
SKOAR!: "There has been an ongoing debate regarding the processing power of consoles to pull of a massive engine such as CryEngine which needed to be toned downed significantly for consoles to actually handle the versatility of the engine. We found a game called Metro 2033 (announced way back in 2006) that might actually showcase that the current generation console machine(s) can handle the visual quality of Crysis."

Meh. While it may look good, ANYONE that knows a thing or two about what is under the hood of the consoles know it is a physical impossibility for any current console to pull it off as stated.
However, through clever art style and level design you can achieve the same "wow" factor that Crysis had.
I don't really care if it is pushing the same amount of polys and high rez textures as crysis as long as the game is polished and well done.

Who cares; We know it won't be rendering 50k's of island all at once and won't have full destructability where you blow up a house from 25k away and later in the game, you pass the house and it's still destroyed!
Maybe more like stupid Farcry, where you kill five guys at a checkpoint, return five minutes later and the same guys are back in the exact same place. In one mission I had to fight the same guys 4 times in ten minutes!
Crysis is far more than graphics, they just should have focused a little more on gameplay from what I've heard!

2 - I feel like I have read this before...
Oh yeah, just replace the title "metro 2033" with the title "Haze"...
Look, I played Haze and thought the game was OK at best but you have to agree with one thing here... hype kills games in too many cases and to even begin hyping a game like this and pitting it against the visuals of Crysis is silly stuff.

2.1 - The title says visually
Read the article before commenting acc to it the polygon count on a character's head in Crysis is 3k and in this game its close to that figure...so it MIGHT be visually stimulating like Crysis, the game is not jungle based to compare gameplay mechanics like Haze was pitted unnecessarily...Haze never looked as good as crysis...As a matter of fact I hate it when ppl compare Far Cry 2 and Crysis as well all jungle games are not the same..

2.2 - I read the article... You're just missing my point...
People hyped Haze to be a the Crysis of consoles before Haze was in the Alpha stages. Obviously, before it hit store shelves they had to dumb it down due to performance issues with the game engine used. So with this game I will say the same thing, don't hype it up before the retail product hits the shelves or you could look equally as stupid as the idiots that hyped Haze up before it was released.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see all of this come to fruition but I refuse to be one of those people that hype a game they know little about just because of a few headshots and poly counts.

I also don't recall anyone comparing Crysis to Haze! I just remember fanboys like Nasim saying "Wait till teh Haze is released, 360 is gonna be teh dust". But back in those days this was a haven for 360 fanboys (which was anyone who couldn't afford a $600 Ps3 and was mad about it); The fanboys were just looking for something to grasp onto to fight the constant barrage of PS3 hate!

It's great to do some models that detail it, but throw it in the engine with everything else working and they'll have to backslide on the model/textures. They'll never equal up to what you can do on a PC. Just too many limitations, specifically GPU and overall processing power.

Raw processing power is NOT the problem in fact The Cell is more powerful than most CPUs out there. The real bottleneck is RAM availability and in some way GPU prowess.

For a PC, raw processing process is very important because it's running more than just a game. You need the faster processing speed on both the chipset and the RAM, but you also need more processing power to handle more applications in tandem.
The primary element that PCs have over consoles are the GPU, though, which means they can render higher textures and particle effects faster than consoles, and most recent GPUs can also handle AI processing.

You hardly have anything running beside a game when you play. This CPU argument is mood. If - it might have timing issues, because the OS does not go to sleep and any background process (or IRQs) can take away the CPU at any time (but that adds to timing and latency and not how fast a game runs). Windows is no realtime OS, either.
The GPU argument might be correct, and the main reason is, that it would not work any other way. GPUs use a well defined abstracted interface (OpenGL or/and DX) and thus make PCs scalable (which is very important in such a dynamic market).
But, a console is different. GPUs are fixed functions, the OS is way closer to the metal then on PCs. The GPU is underpowered compared to top of the line PC GPUs. And that's why on a console you need to go different routes. If the GPU is not fast enough you need to squeeze that out somewhere else. I tend to believe the CELL gives you resources to do that. Moving the pipeline closer to the CPU (that's already done, particles were always close to the SPUs), vertex optimization, even texture pre-processing and all can all take away load from the GPU. Cells SPUs are vector monsters which can very much support the GPU a lot. It has a reason why they built it that way, because they knew the HW when designed had to survive a couple of years, while PC tech will continue to evolve.

It is a game of the authors - developers creatives - of STALKER but in another company . The game designer and the author of the engine and another important people of the developement of STALKER.
It is based on a novel very popular in Russia
It is a traditional FPS, not a sanbox, but it has RPG elements, stealth, and decisions. The gameplay is more like a traditional FPS like Half life 2.
The engine is different from the Cryengine 2, is a deferred shading engine is an evolution engine STALKER. The aesthetics of the game is more like Gears of Wars and Fallout 3. The story reminiscent of Fallout

Well, let's see.
* Real Time Lighting and Dynamic Soft Shadows:
CryENGINE® 2 features natural looking light sources, and creates soft shadows that dynamically respond to natural movements. It includes high-resolution, perspective correct and volumetric smooth-shadow implementations.
* Volumetric, Layer and View Distance Fogging:
Create clouds or fog banks which can hug the ground and realistically reduce both visibility and contrast, and properly interact with both dynamic lights and shadows, add depth and dimension to a landscape by reducing scene contrast and clarity for distant landmarks
* Terrain 2.5D Ambient Occlusion Maps:
On a per pixel level, approximates the amount of ambient (fill) light reaching an object (static or dynamic) depending on the amount of ambient occlusion created by the surrounding foliage and structures.
* Normal Maps and Parallax Occlusion Maps:
Normal maps are used to project the contour details of a highly detailed object onto a low polygon model by using a high frequency compressed (3DC/BC5) texture in place of the polygon's surface normal in lighting calculations. CryEngine2 also supports parallax occlusion mapping to give a greater sense of depth to a surface texture applied to a polygon, such as could be used to realistically emphasize the relief surface structure of a brick wall, for example.
* Screen Space Ambient Occlusion:
Provides a real time simulation of ambient light occlusion, so that the amount of ambient (fill) light which is applied when two surfaces that meet at an angle is reduced in order to simulate the natural darkening of edges and corners that happens in this case in the natural world, both indoors and out. By limiting the calculations to only the space within the current view frustum, a significant performance benefit is realized while still allowing for a very high quality result.
* Subsurface Scattering:
Simulates the diffusion and diffraction of light transmitted through translucent objects, like ice and jade; it can also be used to create natural looking skin or vegetation.
* Eye Adaptation & High Dynamic Range (HDR) Lighting:
Eye Adaptation is used to simulate the human eye's adaptation to sudden or extreme changes in lighting conditions, like dark indoor environments suddenly transitioning to bright sunny outdoor environments, while HDR allows scenes with extreme brightness and contrast ranges to be more realistically rendered.
* Motion Blur & Depth of Field:
Motion Blur is used to simulate the visual effect of using a slow shutter speed when tracking fast moving objects or making quick camera movements. Blur can be applied both to individual objects (object based motion blur), and/or to an entire scene (screen based motion blur), while Depth of Field can be used to focus the viewer's eye on a nearby object while subtly blurring objects in front or behind the point of focus.
* Light Beams & Shafts:
These are used to create visually stunning light beams and shadows when light intersects with solid or highly detailed geometry, and can generate 'godray' effects under water.
* High Quality 3D Ocean Technology:
Dynamically modifies the ocean surface based on wind and wave direction, generating shoreline soft-clipping breakers automatically where the ocean meets the shore, depending on the shoreline contour and ocean depth, while our caustic simulation creates realistic looking moving shadows and highlights in underwater environments.
* Advanced Shader Technology:
A script system used to combine textures and math in different ways to create unique effects such as cloaked, wet, muddy, and/or frozen surfaces which can be layered together and combined with more basic shaders such as metallic and glassy and other visual effects. Supports real time per-pixel lighting, bumpy reflections, refractions, volumetric glow effects, animated textures, transparent computer displays, windows, bullet holes, and shinny surfaces. Included are many unique new shaders which take advantage of the efficiencies of the unified shader architecture of DirectX 10.
* Terrain LOD Management Feature:
This feature allows optimal usage of CPU and memory to display closer objects and terrain at a fine level of detail while enabling long view distances of over 8 kilometers.
Not to mention the ridiculous size of the game's textures (1024 x 1024 grass and dirt textures)
So yeah.

And... so did you read some of the statements in the article? The "and" shouldn't be necessary unless you're looking for some way to tout Crysis some more, a game, that when released, required much more expensive hardware to play at it's maximum than one would have to pay for any console...
I'd like to see a PC with comparable memory and processing power produce graphics like Killzone 2... I haven't seen one. If you had a PC with such "limitations" you would have to play most games on the lowest settings.

Never was "a exclusive " . A "third party exclusive" . In the summer of 2006 fansites needed exclusive games for PS3 and 4A games was a new and small studio the need plataforms for launch the game. But realy only in the West, because the book is a best seller in Russia and the game is focusing to the Russian market and PC . So even maybe there was not a developer kit of PS3 in 2006 in Kiev or CIS
The new about the PS3 has a source in a old note in the web of 4Agames in 2006 about the PC / PS3, but currently there is nothing of that. 4A games is a very small studio and has no time to do a simultaneous release on PC, PS3 and 360. And less than a decent PS3 version, like a exclusive game of PS3 - Killzone 2. Varporware and hype ;)

If the game really does push visuals and all of that as much as they say it's going to be massively downgraded on consoles. To match Crysis visually you'd need to push texture quality to extremes and you just don't have the memory to do that on consoles. Crysis for example being a game that has a nearly 2GB memory wall and each console only having about 256MB of system memory.

Hahaha...
Killzone 2 has crappy textures. The PS3 can only render a couple hundred MB of textures, shaders and geometry at once due to its severe lack of VRAM (256 MB compared to the standard of PC graphics cards that range from 512 MB to 2 GB.
I'd say the ugliest part of KZ2 is its textures.
