Splinter Cell Conviction can be completed in 12 hours

Jon Hicks from OXM UK writes:

"Creative Director of Splinter Cell: Conviction, Maxime Beland, has revealed it'll be possible to complete the game in around 12 hours, in an exclusive interview in the latest issue of OXM.

"I want people to play my games and finish them," Beland told us as we were getting our first playtest of the game. "We're going to ship with difficulty levels, at least a normal mode and realistic mode - like we did on Rainbow Six Vegas."

Thats actually pretty lengthy for an action/adventure game considering that most of this type of games last 8-10 hours only. Add Co-op and Multiplayer and all is set . . First day

Agree 100%, 12hours is a very good length for an action/adventure title.I will be playing it on it's hardest setting so will obviously feel longer for me.

And since now Splinter Cell has been 'redefined' it have some replay value - you can blast thru the whole game, or sneak around and pass your enemies without being noticed :D

1.7 - I wonder...
how they're gonna do the multiplayer. Now that the gameplay's shifted to a more fast paced more action oriented. It seems like there's a lot more shooting from sam's pov, I wonder how that will affect the spy gameplay in multiplayer.

Is there any game that last more than 20 hours, anyway? Games are usually between 5 and 10 hours. Even Bioshock hardly do 15 hours. The only games that can reach that are RPG, and even there, JRPG are less long than the old ones.
It took so much time to finish Final Fantasy but now you play Eternal Sonata, you say "What? Already?".

It's not a matter of exclusivity or not, and this is why i'm proud about Ninja Gaiden. At least, it takes time to complete it with epic boss battles, long and various levels, a great challenge. People keep comparing NG to God of War, but in my opinion there is no competition between a long stylish ninja action game and a 5 hours button masher.

why are you taking it so personal. its just a console. do u think sony would defend you if someone insulted or dissed u? people with such loyalty have no life. no offence

The avarage first playthrough time is about just that 20 hours you were talking about. Mine was 22 and 7 playthroughs later I finished it in 2:34:02 along with the Big Boss emblem.

Considering you can choose multiple ways to complete missions this game should have an extremely high replay value, not to mention that its going to be pure gameplay throughout.

And of course multiplayer will help too.

I have always loved the Splinter Cell series and its approach to stealth/action. It's a title to envy if you're on the "other side"(Wii, PS3).

...usually means around 8. But i guess that's still better than...let's say 5.

I remember the Uncharted devs saying something similar back in 07. 12 hours, and the game was 8 - 9 max.

That is often very true, but you also have to take in account the person playing. If they are not very good it could take them quite some time but if you have a knack for games it wouldnt take as long as others.

yea, just like halo 3 and gears and gears 2. they were promised to be 10-12 hrs but ended up more like 7-8 hrs. lets hope the sequels to THOSE games are longer as well.
but, i think it's ok for a game to be a little short as long as it's a well-made, enjoyable experience.

12 hours to the dev probably means 15-16 hours for me. I honestly don't know how someone can complain about this. I mean I don't consider myself a busy person, where I constantly have a bluetooth attached to my ear and cell phone ringing like crazy, but more a average schedule. I work, eat, sleep, hang with friends and girlfriend, watch sports, exercise, read etc...Fitting in some gaming time is not hard but for someone to say 12 hours is short? That's absurd.

I say that with no offense whatsoever. It just bothers me when someone calls a game short. So far, I see a lot of people considering this game to be just right, which is good. Besides, it's an action/stealth game. It's always cool to try out different methods of achieving your objectives so that should add in some extra time as well.

DA's multiplayer was disappointing, but if Convictions multiplayer is anything like Chaos Theory... it'll definitely be in the XBL top 10! CT Versus was absolutely fantastic!

12 hours is pretty fair...
some say 6 or 8 hours is too short (though you couldnt say that in general...it depends on the flow of the story)
but im fine with that.
i know these 12 hours are going to be pure fun (+ about 50hrs. multiplayer) so im not really worried at all.

MSG4. I remember people bashing it for being 20 hours long (not including cut scenes). All they would bring up was how long the cut scenes were, and ignore the fact there's 20 hours of gameplay.

To me SC has been going down hill fast. This one looks to be better but I need to play it first. the writing on the walls is distracting.

It was. The game is 20 hours long and you're telling me people didn't bash it, saying it's all cut scenes and no gameplay? That's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw people praising this game for being 12 hours long. I'll give it a try but I'll be comparing it to MGS4 the entire play through, so UBI better have their S together.

MGS4 can (somehow) be completed in the hardest difficulty, using no health/special items or continues, all in under 5 hours. The first time I beat it, it took me about 17h, watching all of the cutscenes. So saying that it has 20h of gameplay is a bit farfetched.

Hell the cut scenes alone are damn near 17hours! /sarcasm

It took me about 25hours to beat, cut scenes and all. I took my time, I wish I could show of all the stuff I unlocked on my first time through. I wish they would patch the damn game for awards.

Any game can be ran through really quick, but I choose not to.

@cranium

Yes, MG4 can be beat in 2 1/2 to 3 hours skipping cutscenes, however, that doesn't prove anything really. It would be near impossible to beat in under 10 hours (skipping cutscenes) on the first play through, and without people stating a lot of BS, most people would complete the game in around 20-24 hours if you include cutscenes. After playing the game 6-7 times though, I would expect playtime to go way down because as a player, you would know where everything is and know exactly where to go at all times.

I'm sure it will be the same for SC, if it's ~12 hours stated by the devs, that would be for the first playthrough, and it would vary from about 8-12 hours. Now, after you play through it 6-7 times, it can probably be completed in 2-3 hours as well. This is not exclusive for these games. I would say 95% of all games can cut the playtime in half, at least, after playing through it a few times. There is nothing wrong with this, and it's one reason I was hoping no one would bring up MGS4 length (not saying you did).

I wasn't bashing MGS4 in my previous post, I was just trying to prove that playtimes vary greatly in most games, it all depends on what difficulty you play it on, your style of play(sneaky, suicidal, ect.) or how thorough you are in the levels. Do you explore every square inch of the game, or do you just rush through the whole thing? It's things like that that decide your final playtime. So in SC, I'm guessing that the playtime will vary from 5-20 hours. Then there's replayability: is there any incentive to beat the game again like extra difficulty levels, more weapons, ect.
I have personally beat MGS4 7 times, so despite it being beatable the second time through in 5 hours, it has a massive replay value that kept me glued to the TV for hours on end.
