i seriously can't see how gears2 disappointed on multiplayer, it's friggin incredible.

if you want the old gears maps, they did include those in gears2. the mansion, tyro station, and gridlock are 3 maps that i can remember off hand.

yes gears 2 is much better than gears 1 ... graphics, gameplay and intensity... especially horde... but the multiplayer MATCHMAKING system isnt ... i'm on minute number 8 and still no matches found. :(

Edit: minute 10 ... finally got into a match... died in 5 mins... and back here... it happened all so quickly !!

call me mad, but i liked the simplicity of the gears 1 multiplayer compared to gears 2. Then again maybe its just me not willing to adjust.. but i like the idea of a revamped gears 1 multiplayer or even a game mode for gears 2 which brings back the old play style.

infact the latter of those two sounds better to me.

The biggest problems with Gears 2 is there needs to be a "Party up" feature with a map rotation for ranked matches, and they need to break up warzone and execution into thier own playlist. Then they need a map rotation for private matches, while ALSO letting anyone else join who wants to play and not allow friends only... In other words... Bring back the gears 1 public matches...

The matchmaking is such an obvious flaw I can't in my right mind believe that Epic is that dumb to just leave it be. But alas, they have done just that.

I just think the 5 on 5 messes up the whole vibe of the game. What makes it so fun is the cat and mouse aspect. It doesn't feel as strategy based, and the design of the new maps don't help matters.

I also think the proximity minds were kinda cheap. I liked the balance of the weapons in the first one, and I liked the fact that you could splitscreen and play 1vs1 mp matches against your splitscreener w/o having to get online and have an xbl account.

... 12 hrs a day!!!.. i kid you not ... it was my first game on my 360 and my only game for that period of time... i played it till the disc cracked inside my launch model 360...

and i still feel that gears 2 is much better... the gimped shotgun could be the only problem ... but the chainsaw animation in gears 2 is much better... in the first one you're usually chainsawing the air... and with horde in gears 2... the multiplayer is a win... the matchmaking isnt

Played the original Gears non stop. I do agree G2 is better. Horde mode is a blast and multiplayer is better with the new weapons, maps (some having hazardous environments) and additional player per side. My only gripe, like you, is matchmaking.

There was never as much 2-piece in Gears1 as there was in Gears2. At least when Gears2 was released. I only played it for about a month after it was released, and that was before the TU1, when you shot the shotgun, it was useless, when you blind-fired, it would shoot the ground when you clearly were aiming up at the enemy. I'm sure now it might have been fixed, but 75% of gamers, back in Nov. would 2-piece because that was the only way to get a kill with the shotgun and yes, it took no skill, but maybe now it does, as I haven't played in months. Yes Gears2 is more polished and all that crap but the core gameplay from Gears1 was changed. IMO, it's for the worst, in your opinion, clearly for the best.

And I do agree that this article is stupid. IMO, just release a few maps, maybe a Wingman mode as DLC, and that would surely make the Gears1 community happy.

I love, I mean I LOVE gears of war, both 1 and 2.

But the only thing I've ever liked about its multiplayer is Horde mode.

To me, this game is about the single player, which is what it excels at.

Also, the thought of re-releasing an old game for its multiplayer, while it has a sequel out with new but similar multiplayer is well....Retarded.

Gears 2 isn't all that bad of a game, the only problem I have is the matchmaking, its terribly slow where as in the first Gears of War you can literally just find a game and join and another thing I hate about Gears 2 is its shotguns theres hardly any "umph" lol and the gameplay is slow as hell.

On topic: Gears 2 MP was more playable to me than gears 1's but that's not saying much, they blocked users from my country and now you can't find a match here in Chile, it's the last time I waste money on their games.
