How Bioware Blew It

GameHounds' Cooper Hawkes writes:

"Bioware is the latest and to my mind greatest stepdad a gamer could ask for. Beautiful looking games, fun to play, well plotted, all around the greatest gaming developer ever created.
Until last night."

It seems like this guy haven't watch any movies, read any books, or played any other RPG's. Plot holes happen. Even oh-so-beloved Lord of the Rings or classic like Robinson Crusoe had some. Seriously.

The hell is this? Why was it approved. It's a blog, some guys personal opinion. Or was this some fanboy attack on an exclusive to get it up here.

Anyway the author is wrong.

At no stage could Saren just have walked up to the council chambers and used the computer terminal.

I mean, think about how hard the human abadassor hard to fight just to get an audience. The place would have been heavily secured, CSEC guards and the like.

Even Spectres with all their freedoms can’t do what they want, for example Shepard’s ship get locked down. So he couldn’t have just come in later, security forces never sleep, especially for something as important as the seat of galactic power.

No, Saren needed to get a small strikeforce onto the Citadel, to fight his way up to control pannel. I mean when you walk up the citadel tower, you can see evidence of some heavy destruction, pillars are knocked over, there’s fire everywhere. Sure you could blame the attack for the damage… but indoors? To that degree? It looks far worse than the outside of the tower did.

Granted, you can walk up there as Shepard without a reason, but for gameplay so liberties must be granted, Shepard wouldn’t be really walking around the Citadel throwing grenades at civilians as it is possible to do.

LoTR is the funniest one. All they had to do was have the giant eagle birds carry the stupid hobbit to mordor and drop the ring in, movie done in 10min.

People fail to understand that if logic was involved, games wouldn't be as long or fun.

Actually If they did that, they would have been intercepted by Ringwraiths Or flamed by the eye of Sauron on the way.

So you see ... they couldn't have done that.

ugh, everything got plot holes.
It should also become forbidden on n4g to post blogs, as any moron can put a blogsite up and write an article.

N4g should go viable source only.

Like someone else said, they have got to stop posting people's blogs here. If this is what they are going to do, they should change the name to B4G, Blogs for Gamers, because this kind of crap isn't news.

mass efect 1 is sh*ty rpg with no soul. Everything is good but not the story and RPG elements. And it's booring to play as you hear another "tell me your story" dialog. Where is realism in dialogs ?. Maybe ME2 will improve dialogs. Absoluly hate to choose OBVIOUSLY dialogs. Good dialog vs neutral dialog vs evil dialog vs tell me your story. That's not even RPG element ! you say the same thing but in evil or good way where are diffrent dialogs?. It's only good to watch not to play as he speak..

Hope ME2 will be better than ME1

edit:

ME was good action game but horrible RPG

Uhm.. What? All I heard was "blah blah blah dialog blah blah blah dialog"
Isn't that the point of an RPG? The difference between this and other RPGs..
Is that in this game, you Choose what you want to say, instead of being Forced.
If you don't like this games RPG elements, then go play some JRPGs..
Mass Effect is a great game. And, excels in all aspects.

it's because the mods suck in two ways

a) they have a sony bias.
b) they really don't enforce the blog/unofficial forum post rule

look at this story for example-
http://n4g.com/NewsPending-...

it garnered 199 comments and was reported for more than a day numerous times before it got pulled (failed approval). if it was an anti-Sony story it wouldn't have lasted more than a hour or two. believe me, I report all stories that break rules regardless and was not surprised to see the mods "take their time" on a 900 degree anti-MS story...it happens a lot. It's not just the fanboys that make this site have such a huge Sony bias.

8 - Useless Article
Almost every form of story-telling has holes somewhere, to take one story hole and to use that as a basis that Bioware "blew it" is truly ridiculous and petty.

Whoever wrote this blog article = FAIL

10 - " This implies that Benezia was on Sovereign when the attack on Eden Prime occured — meaning the entire conversation is pointless."
Actually, that's false. It only implies that sometime between when Shephard interacted with the beacon and four days later when he awoke that Benezia and Saren met up on Sovereign. It does not imply that she was on Sovereign during the attack at all, especially considering they were both splitting up to accomplish various tasks throughout the rest of the story, which would seem appropriate to have done prior to the introduction of Shephard into the story as well.

"He’s a Spectre, he could have just gone to the tower after hours on “Spectre business” and activated it while Sovereign and the Geth came into Citadel space."

He needed the beacon's to tell him what to do and how to get the Reapers. By the time he had this info, he was being hunted down for trial by Shephard. Appearing at the Citadel in this manner would have resulted in his being held for trial.

This fails to prove anything and really is only an attempt to belittle a good storyline by trying to find fault in anything possible.

This is weak and I'm not even sure why this is newsworthy.

why would saren say something which benezia already knew?

Maybe to confirm this to benezia considering shepherd took out most, of the geth, and ruined the conduit?

Yeah, this guy is retarded.

And the Whole "Plot Hole" conversation. It can be easily explained like this. Out at the bar, order some chili Cheese fries with my Friend we eat them and I look at him and go "Damn those were some good Fries" Of course he knows they were good. He was there and even ate some. Its just them talking about it. He doesn't tell her it happened. He says it like she already knew it happened.

I know James Bond isn't American.

But basically hes saying that James Bond (Saren) can break into the White House(Council Chambers/Citadel Tower) at night and start dikkin around. Yeah, no.

I just assumed that the Reapers couldn't effectively communicate with organics, and that Saren's instructions were very basic, also that security was far too tight in the council room and they wouldn't even trust spectres enough to waltz in and activate a random terminal no one knows about.
It's possible that this really is a plot hole, but I think in regards to the overall trilogy, it won't matter too much. This hole would only pertain to the mini-arc of the first game, anyway.

Considering Sovereign gets owned by an alliance fleet, it can be assumed the Reapers are not as all conquering as he made them out to be. The way I saw it was that Sovereign was looking to bring the Reapers back but didn't know how and used Saren to find the conduit which they believed was the 'key'. Saren probably found out about the Citadel being a huge mass relay the same way Shepard did - the VI on Ilos.

17 - My Mass Effect Disappointment.
The one theing that always disappointed me about Mass Effect was the Ship Battle scene.

In the cut scene were first show up at the Citadel after Eden Prime one of the offices makes a comment how the main Asari battelship(Destiny Ascension I think it was called, don't really remember) was the the biggest and baddest warship in Citadel Space. That its main cannon was massive.

But in the final cut scenes with fleet actions going on it didn't do anything but sit there like a lump on a log and took a pounding. It should have bean taking the lead in the battle, all guns ablazing, it should have bean the one heading strait for and taking on the Sovereign with the Turians ships as escort. You don't send those ships alone. And you never never never take your main battle asset out of a battle to pick up dignitarys its stupid. You want that asset in between the dignitarys and the hostels holding them at bay. You would then have smaller and a lot faster ships get those dignitarys out of the battle zone ASP! The final cut scenes never made any sense to me.

There is a massive plot hole because the third guy on the right moved his left pinkie when in fact the time-space continuum does not allow spatial relationships to be disproportionate to the blah blah blah...I don't think plot holes in video games is going to keep me up at night, besides, I just played the game to get to the sex scene with the blue chick.

21 - How unfortunate !
This guy is a priceless. He keeps calling Bioware his stepdad, and he mentions he is still Bioware's b****. Then he goes into an incredibly convoluted plot analysis that I can't follow and I've solved the game.
And that bandaid that was crudely photoshopped onto Sheppard's head. Oh Dear !

Thinking back on when I first bought Mass Effect for the PC was nothing but pure joy. I even enjoyed getting my ass kicked by the last boss till I could beat him and yell boo-yah but it was still fun all the way through the entire game for me. I had too much fun to notice plot holes or even really care. The one thing I really cared about was how barren all the planets were. Most couldn't be landed on and the ones you could were so freaking naked with nothing but mountains and the typical fortress / building.

I would really love to see more detailed outdoor environments in ME2 if it's possible because ME didn't feel right at times; although I do hand it to them for indoor environments, most were for the most part very well done and I have to consider this game a must have for any RPG / Action game lover.

Oh and I just love how the journalist compares Bioware to that of a Father. LOL.

1) The great Capt. Kirk taught me can't go into space and NOT sex the hot alien *salute*

2) Council lives. I know. They annoyed the crap out of me too with the second guessing but I was roleplaying and thought the universe would be better off with them. Or grateful enough to give humans greater influence (they were).

That's what a good RPG does. Forces you to care. *sigh*
