Lake: 'Remedy is not a factory,' team fortunate to spend time on Alan Wake's debut adventure

Remedy has been talking about the 5 year development process for Alan Wake, as it was originally announced back in 2005. Sam Lake, lead writer, tells Joystig that Remedy is not a factory.

"Remedy is not a factory, we take our time and try out different things until we feel have found the right combination and a good balance for the game."

I understand them. Im not mad @ waiting. They showed footage @ E3 i was pleased with them and I know Remedy actually makes good games you guys remember Maxpayne on ps1.

+

they concetrate on making one game , unlinke ''game factories'' that have The Potential to put out Good games(teamsonic , D3 , 3rd party for wii(sucky ones)) BUT prefers to Rush things out to cash-in on the ASAP.

I dont mind waiting to 2010 to play Alan Wake!

When I know I will be playing SplinterCell Conviction , Forza3 , Halo Odst , Magna Carta2 on the X360 and I can buy Soul Calibur on PSP and Zelda on DS and play them on the go.

Yes, waiting is just an @ss when it's PS3 related right? WAIT B3YOND isn't it? But for Alan Wake everything is ok! LOL

Now, talking seriously, I really hope more devs have Remedy security, confidence and professionalism. They just know what they are doing!

They aren't rushing the game just because of deadlines, they have commitment with both being productive for their employers and giving quality to gamers.

Edit: I didn't disagree with nobody...

Should just avoid announcing these things so early, but I suppose they didn't expect it to take so long. Looks like a good game, probably my favorite from the Microsoft conference.

The reason Remedy Games showed Alan Wake at E3 2005 was because they were looking for a publisher for the game. They could not develop and publish the game because Remedy is a small company made up of around 35 people so getting a partner to publish and fund development by showing it at E3 was the only way to go.

Microsoft seeing the public reaction to the game quickly snatched publishing rights in 06 and kept the game out of the media until it was ready. http://uk.gamespot.com/news...

It's not nice when a game is shown earlier but knowing the reason for their actions makes it all justified.

3.2 - I agree.
They need to hold back from announcing these games so early on. Typically they do it to beat their chest in spite of the competition and make no mistake, all companies do this so it's not just MS. I would like them to maintain a routine of only announcing titles within a year or less before release date. That way, they won';t shoot themselves in the foot with a hype train gone wild.

But again, it wasn't Microsoft's decision to have it shown so early. Ever since Microsoft acquired publishing rights, they have kept the game under close wraps.

Personally I am glad they are taking their time. Most of my favorite games of all time were games that were promised to be available "when it's done". And Alan Wake is certainly shaping up to being one of the most amazing-looking upcoming games.

The same reason 360 fanboys are always clicking disagree in Ps3 related article's because they probably think it's funny and please don't single out Sony fans doing this as my fellow 360 fans do it too and then some!

Now on topic Alan Wake looks great not the best game I've seen but it's a open world game so i can forgive the graphics not being the best just hope the gameplay is good.

Does anybody know if there's going to be a playable demo at some point?

Don't be upset Sony boys...you can enjoy too.

http://www.gametrailers.com...

And to think, Alan Wake has almost a year left in development and we haven't even begun to see the huge open world there is to navigate in Alan Wake yet. How big is it again...25 square miles or something. o.O

Imagine experiencing that massive open world with characters to meet, places to explore.... with graphics and gameplay that look this good. :)

'I look around in ps3 articles yes, but i dont piss in them.'

Why is it that when i look at your comment history i see you in several Ps3 related articles saying (insert name) Ps3 game is crap and insert (name) 360 game is far better.

Well i know why it's called trolling see you do it to Foxgod and you just owned yourself you big hypricate.

'If you read closesly youl see i am just defending the 360, against the pissing thats going on in those ps3 articles.

First i can't believe your actually calling me a Ps3 fan i don't even own a Ps3 (yet) i only own a 360 but i don't think Microsoft is god unlike you and the rest of the 360 fans on this site.

Oh and that defending the 360 in Ps3 articles is again called trolling if you don't know what that means look it up or i can give you a lone of a dictionary if you want.:p

Why is it that so many of you PS3 diehards always feel the need to mention that you are getting a game on the PC? Nobody cares what platform you get it on. You don't see everybody else just randomly mentioning that they are getting it for the 360 or the PC, do you? Your motives are transparent.

So much for only running on Vista, eh? Hackers are too fast for Microsoft(well, anyone). I wouldn't blame anyone for doing it now since Windows 7 is right around the corner. I can almost guarantee you a popular game such as Alan Wake will be receiving the same treatment to run on XP.

Hold on, Hold on, let me get this straight. If someone owns a PS3 and PC, but not an Xbox 360 and decides to buy a PC game (Alan Wake, L4D2) they get called a Sony fanboy? For God's sake, some of you Xbox fans need to stop being so insecure. It's not about you and your precious company. It's about the games.

"let them be. Sony Fanboys dont even realise that MS Is getting Payed of Both PC gaming and X360.....MS is still getting your money."

Who cares!? If you're a gamer and buy games according to who gets payed for them, then there's something wrong with you. Heck, Sony owns a small share in Square. So if you buy Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360, a little bit of your money may go to Sony! *dun dun duuuun*

This fanboy crap is really ridiculous.

I finally watched the game in HD from IGN and I must say, I don't see the same jittery framerate I saw when I watched the Alan Wake demo on G4TV. Graphically, I think the game looks great, the story seems very spooky, and the light/gun mechanics seem great. My expectations for this game are through the roof and I can't wait for it.

Seriously look at the graphics and gameplay(amazing). It has a full year before it ships. It will only look better and more polished, including the framerate. We haven't even begun to see exploration of the openworld yet. :)

There is alot more to learn about Alan Wake. All I know is it reminds me of a Stephen King flick and I can't wait to Jump in.

Well what can they say?It took just one E3 press conference from Microsoft to silence the haters.Look at Forza 3,that game blows every single 360 game out of the water and Turn 10 said that there is still juice left in the 360 for them to improve on and i have no reason to doubt them considering the game and engine where made in just under 2 years.

And Alan Wake is by far the best looking open world game shown on any console. Then you have SC:conviction and multiplats like Lost Planet 2 and Bayonetta that are simply stunning to look at.

Any one that thinks the 360 is maxed after seeing those games are simply delusional.

Honestly, the AW graphics are imo slightly better than those of Gears of War 2. But, they are different games, so who knows.

No, only ps3 fanboys think that. The rest of the people that live in the real world listen to the engineers who helped design both console when they say that both console are equal in performance. They also listen to the developers who say that it is easier to get good performance out of the 360. Alan Wake looks as good as anything on the ps3 and it is a huge 30 sq km open world game. That says a lot.

Alan Wake revolves around 3 big things.

1. Heavy story elements including self narration and deep emotional story plots. Just like the amazing Max Payne.

2. INSANE graphics. It seriously has THE best landscapes I've ever seen. Not to mention Alan himself is one of the best character models out there.

http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/...

http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/...

http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/...

http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/...

(All shots are in-game. Imho, it blows Gears of War 2's graphics out of the water.)

3. Great gameplay that uses the graphics to it's advantage. Including some of the most dynamic lighting I've ever seen.

First of all, stop checking under your bed for the big bad scary ps3 fanboys. Second, rarely do I hear from devs that the consoles are equal in performance. The xbox360 is easier to develop for because devs have come accustomed to its' hardware. Third, Alan wake doesn't look better than Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2, whch have more things goin on than just shadows.
