It could have been so much more but for a first title I will accept it. The base control scheme is arcadey and i will try to switch it up the idea that you have to bank left and keep the controller pointing left to turn is to hookey to put to words. A real jet you would bank and then back on the stick to continue banking. The jets control sluggishly, an F16 should not delay in turning as it is one of the most manueverable planes in the world today. The graphics are meerly passable and not outstanding. Tarmac textures are last-gen big pixeled and were not improved as i guess they figured most of the action would be in the air. The jets are textured badly and the models are not very hig polycount models as with the F14 you can see the bends in the fuselage that make it look more octagonal and not round per say. The game play is i guess fun if you like waiting for the computer to target and press a button. Generally I wanted more but it is better than Blazing Angels was. I hope a game comes along on the 360 like Ace Combat. A fun, challenging and well executed semi-simulation of jet combat.

Well, I bought it yesterday as I've been waiting for a decent flight sim for xbox/xbox360 for a while now as there was nothing near a flight sim for the original xbox (Airforce Delta Storm was terrible). I used to like the ace combat series for ps2, but the cheesy dialogue and LAME story mode kinda killed the series for me along with the rediculous amount of missiles each plane could carry. The lame dialogue was what killed Blazing Angels for me as well. The controls can be set up any way you want including true sim style stick and all. I've played it on my 720p 37 inch lcd tv and a 19 inch CRT computer monitor and it looks great on both. I don't see what everyone is complaining about with the graphics, I think it looks great. Sim's typically don't have sensational graphics. I've read some forums where people were saying how the screenshots that were released looked no better that Ace Combat 5. After seeing it in motion, that claim is quickly put to rest.

I've played many flight sims on the PC, two versions of Ace on the PS2, and was waiting for a killer sim on the 360 (not "too" much of a sim--I have to get my Top Gun fix), and the 8-player on-line was really intriguing.

Unfortunately, the game is a big disappointment. I'll keep it, since I already dropped my $60 on it the first day, but not as good action-wise as Ace. First, the on-line with eight players---once you're out (and all of us were leaving one team as winner in under five minutes). There is no re-spawn ala Blazing Angels, there isn't even a "re-match" - you just go find another on-line battle. The graphics (cut-scenes and still art) have a very anime-style feel (guess what, from Taito), but I still expected a little more serious tone to it. Graphically, "sat" - not next-gen, with barely any scenery and very few jets in the air, so it doesn't appear to be spending much of the 3 cores on rendering.

Shame on the other game sites giving very positive reviews (previews). No wonder you heard nothing of this from E3 -- it is a dud.

Since I'll still limp along and play it, rent it--I'll still see you on-line for the ever-too-quick matches. Obviously, some of the issue will be learning the game, but you really shouldn't be able to say that for EVERYONE on-line, yet I've not had an on-line match yet that went longer than four minutes.

Oh well, at least GameStop said LOTRBFME2 comes out next week, and then...NCAA. Cheers - see you on-line.

The game is allright. It has a corny storyline patently Japanese. The graphics are passable and don't ruin the experience. I found that if you use strategy like constantly using your wingman to cover you and attack your target I like the game better. Manuverability can gat frustrating especially at low altitude because I noticed they really simmed that up , if you just turn it is sluggish if you use your flaps and rudders it works better. They put little details into every jet the F/18 computer shows the word SHOOT on the HUD when your missle is in range but the F/15 has two red lights that blink when you are in missle range so at least they didn't get lazy. 7/10
