Lord of the Rings MMO for 360 to Potentially Debut at $12.99/month

GameDaily has discovered a new online gaming survey from Intellisurvey that appears to not only confirm the development of a Lord of the Rings Online for the Xbox 360 (as Destructoid reported earlier this year), but also reveal details about the MMO's proposed pricing structure and future downloadable content.

1.2 - It might be a good game and all like WOW,
But I will never pay for WOW this game, or any other game that costs me more than my live subscription. At least with my Live subscription, and my PSN account, I can play tons and tons and tons of games for little to no money at all.

I have always thought it is retarded to pay a monthly subscription for any game. I am not broke, I just don't see the point. I do realize the game takes maintenance to run them, but find some other way to charge for running it. Like make it free to play, and then charge for cool items and stuff. That is the only way I will play an MMO.

I hate the idea of having to pay for items and stuff in an MMO. The model would mean that those paying hundreds of dollars each month for items would get advantage over who pay less for them. And there are even people who are prepared to pay thousands of dollars per month for a game.

Ok, perhaps they could sell stuff which looks great but are completely useless in PVP. Those paying for items should not get any advantage over any other players at least on PVP.

Agreed, Crab. Agreed.

Paying double, sometimes triple just to reach the online aspect of a game is not worth it to me as well.

F**ck the money, people! What about that labor, the hard work you used to get that money?
Money is sh!t, but it used to represent labor, work... now it just represents debt!

Use your debt wisely. :(

You don't need LIVE Gold in order to play MMOs on the 360. You only need to pay the monthly subscription for the game. They're not making you pay for Gold membership AND for the game. You could still play with just the subscription fee of the game.

You don't need a gold account. But the fact is, if you bought a 360 for online multiplayer in any form, you most likely have a gold account already. So I think the complaint is justified. You could easily cancel your gold account to take advantage of 360 MMOs, but who's actually going to do that and lose the ability to play online with the near entirety of the 360 library?

If it comes down to a choice between the few 360 MMOs and the hundreds of games (including XBLA), who's realistically going to do that? Instead you're going to get double charged, which is unfortunate. Better to stick to PC or maybe PS3 for MMOs imo.

and that's sort of my point in the midst of that rant. If I have Gold I should be able to play the MMO's for free. Not pay $50 for the connection from my computer to XBL and then pay another fee to be able to play the game.

I understand the costs are high when running an MMO but MS should be able to subsidize that with my Gold $$$$.

When playing an mmo on the 360 your not connecting to through the Live servers at all, so it doesn't have anything to do with your Live subscription. While playing FFXI you don't even need to be signed into Live. MS doesn't do the work on the servers so why should we be paying them for it.

If MS was publishing it I would agree with you. But their not so get over it.

They were considering a subscription based thing for MAG, but apparently that isn't the case anymore. Now that, on a free network isn't much of a shock.

But the fact they're considering to have you pay for yet another subscription on an already subscription based network? That is pathetic.

LOTR MMO exists on PC and you won't need to pay more than the monthly subscription for the game to play it.

A pay to play game on xbox live is probably the most retarded idea ever conceived in gaming, other than a soulja boy game.

You said it. I don't know how well an MMO designed for the PC will do on the 360 or PS3 for that matter.

But console MMOs might have a better future in games like DCU and Champions Online since they're developed with consoles in mind.

AOC hasn't released on the 360 to be a disappointment, it failed on the PC.

I have no problems playing FFXI on consoles.

11.4 - Okay okay, but ..
Think of WoW, honestly. When I play an MMORPG, I want lots of buttons. and LOTR strikes me as having a bunch of buttons, now i could be wrong i spose, but honestly. Unless they come out wiht a keyboard peripheral, how great is it going to be. And regardless of the keyboard peripheral, I better be able to change my keybindings, which is another thing that a lot of console games lack, since most of the game controls are unchangeable.

So, if they don't release a keyboard / mouse peripheral, is the game going to be watered down? or what? I think that MMOs are iffy on 360, especially when you're used to the depth and freedom of the PC version.

For what it's worth, the current console MMOs (FFXI and PSU) both use keyboards and controllers (not a mouse). I wouldn't be surprised if upcoming console MMOs did too.

"So, if they don't release a keyboard / mouse peripheral, is the game going to be watered down? or what? I think that MMOs are iffy on 360, especially when you're used to the depth and freedom of the PC version. "

You're going in with the expectations of a seasoned PC gamer. Experience tells me that's the wrong attitude because PC to console port almost always means gross simplification/reimagining/dum bing down. Like Halo Wars did for RTS. You're used to how games play on PC, but console gamers are a totally different bag. So I wouldn't expect console MMOs to play too much like their PC counterparts.

LOTR 360 almost certainly won't be 'watered down' but I'm guessing those other upcoming console MMOs won't be as freeform as PC.

11.6 - That's an overly decent point, Mr. P
I guess I just can't grasp how they will make it work, but i guess if they leave it just for controller, it might work, as long as they gimme some freedom with the control scheme, which seems way too effin rare on 360 games anyways.

I used to play FFXI on PC. The game doesn't have so much commands and key binding as other mmos and can be done on controller. Also on PC I used controller and mapped triggers to macro palette for easier use. FFXI is possible to play with controller. LotR: O? Nope.

My name in LotR:O is Stigmata on Evernight. Hunter.

As a console only gamer that's interested in mmos, I'll take every mmo I can get for consoles so I can at least have a choice in mmos to play. Right now there's only two choices a FFXI a seven year old game and PSU which isn't really an mmo. I'm really disappointed AOC failed, because all of the other announced mmos look watered down like you said. The only reason mmos are appealing to me is the massive depth they have and I hope some these console mmos can retain that depth. Maybe someday ill get over my hatred for PC gaming and try some mmos.

I'm looking forward to seeing the next mmo from Square, I just got back on FFXI a few weeks ago because of the changes added to it like syncing your lvl to lower lvl players without ruining the xp for the party. I got so tired of meeting people one day then a few days later I couldn't party with them because they were three lvls higher than me.

That's how MMO's work people build a bridge and get over it...swiftly.

Your playing on THERE servers that they have to run maintenance on not to mention paying GMs and what not.

That alone cannot be payed off by the $60 you'll pay to get the game.

If you expect MSFT to say "HEY GIVE ALL GOLD MEMBERS FREE SUBSCRIPTIONS so they can play freely on your servers while we pay you nothing!"

That the devs behind LOTRMMO will just say SURE...

Yeah right....

You tools blame it all on MSFT but it isn't them making you pay 12.99$.

What do you want MSFT to do? Say Hell NO you can't release your game on our console because Gold members can't play free?

That's a lose lose situation.

Like FFXI I expect this game to not even run on live servers so if you can't afford it you need to weigh out what you want more LOTR or Gold Membership.

2 completely different things that HAVE NO relation.
