Microsoft announces the Gears of War 2007 Global Xbox LIVE Tournament

Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games, Inc. today announced the "Gears of War" 2007 Global Xbox LIVE® Tournament, presented by the World Cyber Games, offering gamers the opportunity to curb-stomp and chain saw their way to the Grand Final in Prague, Czech Republic. The tournament promises nonstop thrills over Xbox LIVE. "Gears of War" players across the globe will have the opportunity to compete in ranked matches on Xbox LIVE for four weeks of leaderboard play. The top 11 finalists in the world with the highest individual scores will receive the grand prize, a trip for two to Prague - the setting that influenced the game's "Destroyed Beauty" scenic imagery - to compete in the Grand Final in July. The grand prize includes a four-day, three-night trip to Prague with round-trip coach air transportation for the winner and a guest, standard hotel accommodations, basic ground transportation in Prague, and a $200 Visa gift card.

What kinda of a lame assed attempt at flaming is that? It's a tournament, for gamers, to have fun and show off fraggign skills. Stop with the fanboy crap already! I haven't got a 360, but I must admit this game is a console seller. If it wasn't so short, I probably would get a 360 for it. That and Forza of course.

5 - This is going to be a mess

They still havent fixed a number of problems: Over powered pistol, Melee attacks stunning you for a second, Sniper active Reloads are one shot downs (WTF), Host Shotgun, People running of the maps, Wepon sliding, Run Glitching
As you can see this game is still Broken, just like Cliffy said its not a tournament, because Epic is lazy

6 - Its some extra fun for Gears of War fans who play it anyway...

Might have to brush the dust off the Game and give online some loving for this. Won't affect the PS3 fans who don't have the system or the game, so why are those fan boys commenting here? They offer some fun rewards (FREE) for a bunch of players, so the bad thing is what exactly?

some day you can play Gears, if you don't like other hosts, open your own room and host a game yourself. Lol if you had ever played gears online you would know that takes a few second, nor do you have to play ranked you can play unranked. If you have ever been in a live tournament they usually reset the boards just prior to the event so its clean slate. Get a job, get a life, and get gears, when you have done all three, come post your bs some more.

Are you paying your yearly subscription fee to play in this tournament? No. Its like paying to get into a nightclub, that has free drinks for 2 hours. The nightclub always charges you $20 to get in, but usually you pay for drinks. Tonight, they are free. Now you are going to tell me that they aren't free, because you paid to get in? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. No one is subscribing to Live for this tournament. These are people who have live and its just one more benefit and another piece of content for the people who do have it.

Devils Advocate: The PS3 system has been out 4 months and has like 8 games (exaggerration, not by much). They're still working on their online community. Of course they haven't had an online event like this!

The 360 has been out over a year with 9 point whatever million users and 3 million Gears players. They have 6 million people paying $50 a year to fund online play and 11 people going to Prague and play Gears.

Eventually, PS3 and Nintendo will probably have similar tournaments. I know that you guys are aware of these facts but are ignoring them to make your point. I had to voice the other side of the coin.

This is a good idea. I'll be in this tournament.

Xbox had GLOBAL Tournies on the old Xbox (Halo). Playstation and the Pnis Network didn't just sprout-they've been around for years. Sony-according to fans-have been working since 2005 or longer, to compete with XBL.

My point is; the network is currently, physically incapable of having a global tourny. It's not about how many games or users. You only have access to other players within your region, i.e. America players can only play against Canadians-not anyone in European or Asian countries. On XBL and on PC-I can play against ANYONE, anywhere utilizing the service.

Trying to say that its not free because you pay for a live subscription is kind of foolish and is just trying to find a dumb reason to bash this. If you really want to look at it like that then lets review: all the people that trump the ps3 online as free must be wrong then. Becuase if we go the same generalization that you used, than ps3 online canot be free. After all you need and internet connection, electricity etc. and since you have to pay for all of those than I guess that means no free online play for ps3. Or we can all be slightly less nitpicky and realize that since these are things that we pay for already, their cost is not factored in. And yes since xbox live players already pay for live, they dont factor the cost of live into an entrance fee for a tournament. Or we can be ultra anal retentive and go the other direction and say that nothing is free since the cost of everything is factored into something else. That is the unfortunate reality of today, but I would rather view something as free than just end up a bitter C#nt like what happens if you look at everything fromthe other perspective.
