writer of zodiac and director of die hard 4 are involved in this... thats a good combo... on one hand you get a guy that can make the scene tense and have a good scripted story and on the other you got a guy who can make you believe bruce willis can piggyback ride a f22 jet... this might actually be good...

Personally, I thought Die Hard 4 sucked major a$$ compared to the old flicks, and plus this is the guy who made them awfully cheesy matrix clone, Underworld movies. I don't have much hope for this. Can't Hollywood hire a decent director for a video game adaptation or do they purposely hire guys from the bottom of the barrel, with the intent on making it suck horse gonads? Maybe this will be a lame PG-13 suckfest like Die Hard 4.

i liked underworld 1 and 2... and they were both VISUALLY appealing... movies are driven by story (something which die hard 4 lacked imo) but with this writer this movie is heading in the right direction... you need cool set pieces and confrontations (writers job) and you have to make those scenes LOOK cool (thats where this director excelled in DH 4) ... and how is underworld similar to the matrix again?

LOOKING good and being a good movie are 2 completely different things. The most emotion I've had in the series came from the very first trailer which was done amazingly well and made me buy the game day one. I don't know if there is enough story to make a movie out this game though. Time will tell.

obviously they're not gonna make a clone movie outta the game... we all have seen the video games to movies... and how they change the complete story all together.. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt... but having a writer like chris morgan who's writte cellular tokyo drift and the new fast and furious (which actually had a very good story) helps

Well, the action scenes in Underworld had that "matrix vibe" to them with the slow mo stuff. The sets/production design had that very dark, and Gothic atmosphere. It is raining non-stop with no sunlight or colors other than black or blue. The costumes consist of that leather fetish bullshit. The cheesy heavy metal music throughout the film. It has a female heroine who tries to be badass, etc.

You do realize the Matrix borrowed heavily from Dark City right? Anyhow...outside of being dark, I do not think Underworld was a clone of the Matrix...and as stated....there were movies that had dark the dark setting and style before the Matrix. With that being said....I did not really think the Underworld series was any good...

Look at Dragonball...they Had Akira San the creator of dragonball supervising the whole project and the result is the biggest let down in recent Anime history. They probably paid him a ton of money just to sit down and shut up.

Look at DOOM as well!

The only movie to film I've watched and was good is Max Payne (average film yes, but as close to the games's story as possible).

I would say give all Anime, comics and games transfers to the guy that did watchmen! The guy is simply put, a genius. He managed to condense the whole watchmen universe in 2 hours flawlessly (a rather complex and inter wind story and character relationship)!

When mindless FPS are getting rapped (e.g. DOOM, Far Cry etc..) lets see them do MGS in a movie... I dont know if I want to watch it really..

Nevertheless, If this guy knows what he is talking about, I really hope he pull's this off, who knows Gears might be the turning point we are looking for...

Let's hope Gears can do that. I found out that there will be a Shadow of the Colossus movie, but unfortunately *sigh*... the script writer of the movie will be Justin Marks, who wrote Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

I thought Silent Hill was a near perfect adaptation of the game. It wasn't a big hit because a lot of nongamers didn't understand it and it didn't have a lot of the cliche horror movie tricks.

Pretty much, it just takes one good game->film conversion to set the Benchmark. Silent hill is the closest we've come yet for sure. That film is at least proof that you don't have to "hollywoodify" the script to make it "work" as a film. If you stick close to the original format, you can't go wrong - it was popular for a reason.

But I think that Bioshock has more potential than any other game out there to be made into a successful movie. The story line is already developed and is a masterpiece as it is.

Gears of war..........I don't know. If it has a strong director and story writer it could work. It still wouldn't be in the same league as Bioshock.

currently on hold... there's a new movie coming out called district 9 and is directed by a newbie and produced by peter jackson... the same duo were supposed to direct and produce the halo movie... but they didnt trust the newbie director with the project even with peter jacksons support ... so if d9 turns out to be good (which looks like it from the trailer on utube) its good news for the halo movie ...

only ONE request i ask is that they please put the "GEARS OF WAR" by Megadeth song in the film... that song is BADASS and would make the movie that more interesting to go see.
