Downloadable content debate

Downloadable content (DLC) is a hot topic that everyone seems to have an opinion about. The latest stir has been over Resident Evil 5, as many have claimed that the download simply unlocked content that was already on the disk itself. Gamers seem to find it unfair that Capcom would charge for something that is already in the retail build of the game.

I disagree with the whole "don't like it, don't buy it, you're not forced to buy it" thing.

To extort players of features such as costumes, levels and even difficulty options is just wrong. Before consoles came equipped with out the box network features that allowed you to download patches and DLC developers had to make sure a game was finished with no game breaking bugs. Now developers are lazy with what is a safety net.

I agree with DLC that can add hours and enjoyment to a game which the developers came up after release. I disagree with DLC that makes the base game somewhat crippled until you download what should be in the base game period.

I fear what's next to be charged.

2 - well I think
Capcom is just an exception as most DLC is awesome. Companies that have the extras on the dvd already is not the way to go.
