Microsoft Intoduces New XBox 360 Platinum Hits Packaging That Acually Looks Good

In a bold move to make "greatest hits" console game packaging that doesn't make one want to stab oneself in the retina, Microsoft has apparently deployed new Platinum Hits box art to retail locations.

MUCH better. That old design was so ugly, I would look for the original packaging when buying a Platinum-selling title.

Hopefully they extend it to all Platinum titles.

Likewise, I like the newer packaging much better. This will probably in a weird way spur sales of Platinum Hits titles :p

It's too bad I have Mass Effect and Dead Rising with the old platinum hits boxart. Good god whoever came up with that design deserves to smack over of the head. Glad they changed it. This looks much better.

mucho better

i like the color green, but not neon green
(except my Ninja 600Zx)

never liked the xbox green cases.

at least it's not as loud. they should do this for all games
but business psychology/marketing will say no.

Looks way better than the old ones. But none of them are as bad as the PS3 platinums in the UK. They look ugly as hell with all that yellow. The platinums for PS1 and PS2 were great but as soon as I saw the PS3 ones I promised myself never to buy a PS3 Platinum game.

ive never liked the platinum boxes for PS in the UK ever since PS1 days. PS2 was a step down from PS1 and now PS3 is a step down from PS2. They always have looked cheap and nasty. Didn't stop me buying them however.

This new 360 design looks ok. Nothing special but much better than playstation designs.

they made a good imprint on how a platinum cover should look like, i'm impressed how they put "Greatness Is Earned" on the label, makes it look complete.

Not only do the games have to be cheap, but they also have to look cheap!!!

I agree, the old Platinum Hits was so ugly I wondered what MS was thinking. Thank God for the newer design, but why can't they just leave the original art and at best put stickers on it since they have to market it as "greatest/platinum hits"?

but the ps3 greatest hits case is ugly. Hopefully they make it look transparent red just like the hd-dvd cases.

1.11 - Now, I love Sony, but they need to do the same thing.
The Greatest Hits collection for PS3 isn't exactly attractive. That red plastic doesn't mesh well with cover arts of games like Resistance. But that's just me.

However, there are some Greatest Hits games that just have a banner like Assassin's Creed, which look nice. But the red plastic has got to go.

Same with the yellow trimming found in the UK.

More like, Greatness is Negotiated once maximum profits have been achieved.

How come Halo 3 still sells for $59.99 ?

It sure as hell has nothing to do with sales and the game is 1.5yrs old.

playstation's version i believe was called "greatest hits" in which case it had a green label on it and the disc was silver.

really nice casing for a 360 game, makes waiting for platinum games well worth the wait.

Well over here in the UK, it was definitely called "Platinum" for ps2 best sellers and had a silver cover and silver disc, i have like 3 lol.
Prob cant trademark that name though

i think the design for the ps3 best sellers are horrible too, they could make it look so much better but instead just turn it yellow and looks like it could be done in Microsoft Paint lol.

aren't the PS3 ones actually red, not yellow? I've seen some, but I'm not sure about the color since all my games have the original boxart.

they are yellow in the UK, not sure about the US, i think i can remember them being red though - not sure (red would be better than a random yellow !)

How does stuff like this get approved without being fixed first?

i dont see why it shouldn't get approved when there is a spelling mistake.
Even articles from IGN or Gamespot have mistakes now and again, i hate when it annoys people so much !

Act like your superior and expect a perfect quality article to read

Nitpicking is a good thing, my spelling is terrible now since I pick up a lot of others spelling mistakes. It only takes a second to spell check.

However, I would still like the news and as others pointed out even articles from big publishers has mistakes.

If we fail real stories with spelling mistakes, the only one that do spelling mistakes are blogs about xyz console failing will make it! Now that would make everyone here happy right?

The PS2, PS3 and old X360 platinum cases have been ugly - i hope sony try and improve theirs now, the cases, for some reason really put me off even going near platinum titles.

i bought a buddy's 360 awhile back and have been meaning to pick up some of the must-haves. i already have mass effect and am trying to finish it before getting anything else but would someone be kind enough to recommend (maybe in order) their favorites from the platinum hits? there are bubbles available :)

btw, 360 kills ps3 in download speed and i love the xna for sure. still prefer the ps3 and especially its psn offerings and first party stuff. glad to be on the dual-console train now, though.

10.1 - lol Not really worried about the bubbles but
my favorite 360 platinum hit's are

1)Gears of War
2)Mass Effect
3)Crackdown
4)Dead Rising
5)DOA 4

Those are the 5 games I got when I got my 360 in that order. To me, Gears alone is a big reason to own a 360 and Mass Effect is epic.

And I know it isn't a platinum hit yet, but I would also recommend Gears of War 2, but, I'm kind of a Gears nut lol.

10.2 - yea
Gears of war 2 is well worth full price.

Almost wish i could go back and play 1 and then 2 for the first time, back to back. Would be epic gaming marathon.

Oh, and definitely play the game co-op, it's a phenomenal experience.

10.3 - thx guys, bubbles
im not a big shooter guy but gears is probably my next pick up i think. never thought of it but the idea of playing the campaigns back to back would rule. maybe ill do it with a rent since the multiplayer doesnt really interest me (get my butt kicked).

since i need to start waiting for games to be discounted before buying this works out well. been spending way too much money lately.

12 - yep
looks a lot better. i am a budget gamer so i look for "greatest hits" and "platinum hits". just got ninja gaiden sigma for 19.99 new. between the 360 and ps3 they're a lot of awesome "old" games that you can find for cheap. hopefully sony and micro keep adding and adding to the "hits" collections.

When will they introduce new games now ? Platinum games from 2007 just won't make it. We know 360 has Gears and Halo, that's not enough, we can't play the same 2 games 10 years long, and we need more exclusive genres too (shooters aren't the only games).

Now we want more IPs before the console is dead.

I never knew why companies dont just sell them in the orginal case but at the reduced price. I myself refuse to buy GH games unless there the last few ones in the OG package. If companies argue that they need to catch our eye with differnet packaging, why dont just place a different design in the form of a sleeve thats removable upon opening. But plz dont change the actually box cover or the disk.
