NXE now included as mandatory on-disc update

If you do not have your Xbox 360 connected to Xbox Live, which is a distinct possibility if recent user numbers are to be believed, then you probably have no idea what NXE, avatars, and all this crazy stuff is. However, that is set to change, as Microsoft are now including the NXE update in all of their new games coming down the line.

The first games to have the mandatory update included on-disc will be Tom Clancy: H.A.W.X, and MLB: 2K9, Both of these games will not let you play them unless you accept the dashboard update that appears when you put in the disc into you 360.

If you held of this long, then saying goodbye to your old blade interface will be hard. Stay strong!

This will greatly help developers in their work flow. For the past year or so it has been mandatory to test games for the old interface as well as the NXE.

This is both time consuming, costly and restraining. And frankly, I wished we could stop testing on the old interface as soon as possible.

Now developers will be able to develop a more elaborate experience for the players.

Pebz, NXE did NOTHING and I mean NOTHING to stop Piracy. All flashed consoles, even really old ones, still worked fine on NXE. You can even install the games and they're identical, copy or real.

well it must be for piracy, cuz mlb 2k9 and h.a.w.k don't work on flashed consoles unless you have like the first firmware. but i think they'll come out with a new firmware to combat this problem as well.

As consoles get updated and new features get added, sometimes support for them needs to be in the firmware. Rather than asking devs to account for consoles that don't support those features, they make their lives easier by ensuring the console will be updated.
It's unlikely that HAWX or MLB will NEED the NXE update, but future games might (particularly those with Avatar Support) and it's easier to have ALL disks have the update than just a select few.
MS has been doing this for a long time, it's just that up until now it hasn't been so obvious.

I'm sure Sony does it as well, they do it with the PSP.

Microsoft already f*cked me over with the "NXE"

I only have an arcade 360 and was working fine online..before the MANDATORY update.Now unless i buy a hard drive i can't play online.

Even tho i already paid 60$ for the gold subscription..

It's about time they did something about this issue.

Yes.It does.You can't log into xbox live unless you download the "NXE"
You Need an HDD to do that.I don't have one.

Microsoft never GAVE me the option to do anything.It was a mandatory update and they gave me no warning of having to buy an HDD or memory card.

Maybe for people who have a 360 controller molded into their hand,sure,they know all about it.For a gamer who rarely uses his 360.

Yeah..they sent out a message over Live I believe. Still, it's your fault you didn't take up the offer, what else did you want MS to do? Phone up every single person who hasn't applied for it, yet? It's not like there wasn't enough publicity on it, it's not like it wasn't made obvious that a big change was coming, you must have known this yourself.
I think giving away a FREE memory card is mighty decent of them, but I guess you can't please everyone.

EDIT: Why did you pay $60 for a Live subscription if you don't use your xbox much?

9 - If (for some reason) you like the old blades....

...they are still available. When you click the guide button, the blades interface appears. This really isn't even newsworthy, and only Sony fanboys would try to turn it into a negative.
