right about graphics not meaning everything. Left 4 Dead is my favorite game this gen, and the graphics weren't anything special. Gameplay will always be the bottom line for me, and if a game is fun but the graphics aren't the best (RB2, L4D, etc.) I'll still play the hell out of it.

lol omg guys, red faction maxed out the xbox cus of the PHYSICS, that requires a lot of power. that doesn't mean they cant do better looking games, it just means the box couldn't handle more PHYSICS but I,m 100% sure you'll see better looking games than gears on the xbox because they probably wont have the destructible environments like red faction has. That's y gears can run good with those graphics cus it barely has physics and destructible environments. You have to remember destroyable environments take up a lot of power, it requires A LOT of physics... A LOT.

If XBOX can produce games like Mass Effect and Fable, I don't really care if it is maxed out or not but I wouldn't say it is absurd.

The PS3's GPU is inferior to the 360, Graphically speaking the 360 is more powerful. It's the CELL that'll give the PS3 an edge, it is far more capable at things like realistic physics than the 360 is and that's what the PS3 can really excel at in the future.

I think that developers didn't really even have the proper time with the Original Xbox to really exploit what it was really capable of because Microsoft cut it's life short.

However, I do think that some developers came pretty close to maxing out the Playstation 2 last generation. Shadow of the Colossus, Killzone 1, God of War 2, BLACK, and Gran Turismo 4 are just a few games that I think showed what the PS2 was really capable of and pushed the console to it's limit.

I think that the Xbox 360's fullest potential will probably be achieved with Alan Wake, Splinter Cell Conviction, or Forza 3.

Man, I dont know what kind of bait you are using... but you got me.

512MB of RAM is the common number used by both systems. What you failed to mention is that half of the PS3 ram is like 4 times faster than the RAM used in the xbox. You also failed to mention that the cell chip can take heavy burdens off of the RAM in the PS3 by using the SPU's. The cell chip can also produce graphics... The PS3 is a very advanced piece of hardware that is only now being fully understood by many years of learning to program it and millions of dollars.

Sure, Sony could have used DVD and a Quad/Dual core processor and went along the grain of all current PC's. It would of saved money and we would of had our $199.00 PS3. But, I for one would still be using my PC for gaming if this was the case. Sony innovates. They take chances by trying new things, new technology and hit or miss they should be commended for trying. But no, they get bashed and people throw hissy fits about Blu-ray trojan horses and all this bull. I love technology and I love how Sony always tries to push it with their products. Not to mention everything they make is quality. Sure, it would be nice if Sony products were cheaper. I will like EVERYTHING to be cheaper. But you get what you pay for. You buy cheap and you get cheap. I could keep going but I will let Sony's exclusive games this year do the rest of the talking.

What are you even talking about? Yes, the RAM is faster, but that doesn't mean it can somehow hold more information, 512Mb is 512Mb. This is what he was referring to when he said "blow the RAM". He wasn't stating that somehow the RAM wasn't fast enough to handle another vehicle, but simply that another Vehicle would take up too much space and max out the RAM, which on a console is a VERY BAD THING. You're probably used to a PC, where you can pretty much treat it like you've got unlimited RAM since when RAM runs out, a pagefile can be used, but on consoles this is NOT the case, once you run out of Memory, your system/game will crash, no exceptions.

But this, this is sheer brilliance:

Seriously...what are you even talking about? How on earth is a co-processor going to make the memory work any better? That's like saying a PC with a 15Ghz Core 2 Quad with 512Mb of RAM is going to be faster than a normal 2.5Ghz Core 2 Quad with 1Gb or RAM. It just doesn't make sense no matter what way you spin it, memory doesn't suddenly get faster or hold more information just because a processor can calculate it faster.

I don't know how you imagine RAM is used, but's not like...some temporary storage that gets filled up with information that's then erased as the CPU processes it. When something is loaded into Memory, it stays there until it's not needed (or rather, until the game/application tells the system it's not needed).

Hey you beat me to it as ive only just read this article and was going to say that the article said "We’ve got it to the point where we can’t even put an extra vehicle into a world, because it’ll blow the memory" and "it may actually max out the 360 due to memory issues". So my question was going to be what the problem was with memory as if its a capacity problem then that would also apply to the PS3 or is it a speed issue?

I'm just stating that the Unreal Engine is maxed out and most of the games developed by it, turn out looking like family.

Some third Party developers should have other options instead of opting for the Unreal engine because it's available and friendly.

smaller 3rd party devs should have other options such as a base MS engine but the larger ones usually create their own inhouse engine or they should because I've only seen 1 3rd party dev use UE3 properly and that was 2k with Bioshock.

There are a lot of games which have being developed with the Unreal Engine 3 this generation.

That's something that worries me. When I played Gears I was excited. It was incredible, played like a dream, looked amazing and I thought "Things are going to be different now." Each game from here on in will continue to push the envelope. That was in 2006.

I waited. I waited. Halo came out. Bioshock came out. They were good, but nothing topped Gears. 2 years went by and finally Gears 2 came out, and it looked and ran a little better. Again, it was good but I've always been disappointed that the games leveled off on the 360. On the PS2, there's no comparison between the games that came out the first couple of years and what came out later. God of War II put a lot of "next gen" games to shame in 2007. PS3 games seem to be getting better all the time. From Resistance to Uncharted to MGS4 to Killzone and Heavy Rain - each crop of games seems to get better and better.

That's not happening with the 360 and I'm disappointed. I've spent over $900 between the console, extended warrantie, controllers, XBL, charge and play kits, more charge kits, wi-fi and if I sold it tomorrow on Ebay I'd be lucky to get $150. So I sit back and hope that something amazing is lurking right around the corner for the 360 - but I've lost faith. I don't think that game is coming for the 360 this gen.

Firstknight, I am not trying to fight or flame... but I am sure the 360 has a little juice left in it. I dont think it is enough to compete graphically anymore. It started with games like Heavenly Sword throwing 100's of enemies at you. The graphics kept moving on with R&C Pixar likeness... Uncharted's graphic superiority. Games like MGS and GT5:P Can not be found on the 360. Unlike you, Firstknight I have actually played the other machine. Ive SEEN it eat gears of war like a hungry hooker after a gang bang and spit it out unplayable. You guys love this machine... god bless ya. But I cant be fooled and not to sound like a broken record, Sony will prove once and for all to all of you non-believers that the PS3 is a graphical powerhouse that only high end $3000.00 computers can compete with.

L4D co-op was pretty fun but it lacked a good SP experience that Resistance 2 has, so for me(I like more story driven games) Resistance 2 was a better experience than L4D, even though the Resistance story isn't something that's gonna win an oscar.
