Mark Rein Announces the Gears 2 Patch

Mark Rein of Epic writes: "As I mentioned before the break we've been working on a major title update for Gears of War 2. This update will address bugs and exploits as well as add some new achievements related to downloadable content. We don't have an exact date for it but all indicators are it will go live within January. If that changes we'll let you know.

We're fixing a whole bunch of online exploits. For example we've fixed the ability to wield an invisible shield, melee through some walls, gain infinite Lancer ammo and equip a shield and a two-handed weapon simultaneously plus many more.

We're also making several small changes to improve the overall online gameplay experience. A few of the ones that might interest you are; increased penalties for quitting matches early, adding additional spawn protection against planted grenades and chainsaw attacks, and adding the ability to see the Submission flag carrier destination by using Tac/Com."

Been getting to addicted to COD:WaW's online to really pull myself away now. Gears 2 was a good play through but with all the online issues, it just lost its savor for me. I think Epic is one of the best developers out there and it is a shame they got this off as late as they did.

Looks like Cliffy B and Mark Rein came to a stand still. Pre-production releases had Cliffy B telling the public "We know the condition the multi-player is in and there is no plan to patch it right now"

This is good thing for everyone.

...Unfortunately it's past the prime for the problem, this really should have been priority one before and after the game was released.

Edit: Yup, played through the single player campaign and attempted to play online with not much luck. My favorite part is the worm level, however it didn't feel to alive it was too static, it would have been excellent game dynamics if the level rustled and tumbled instead of getting through Point A to point B and cutting the membranes along the way.

They tried pulling a team ICO and it didn't feel as fluent but props to them for trying something new.

I'm not a big fan of running bit maps and looping them, to be honest I'm not fan of how the UnrealEngine v2.1. looks at all, but I enjoyed the game. Also to answer your question, YES the body of the worm was detailed (I didn't see any pulsation however) but it felt like a very linear static environment, you're in a giant worm it should feel like it.

Unlike you I'm not a blind one sided fanboy Jenzo :)

I thought they did a good job with the worm's insides. The walls were pulsating, and the floor was wet and pounding. Everything was animated. However, if your talking about how the entire environment didn't shift like your in a raging worm speeding underground at 200 mph, then i'd agree with you.

Other than that, when did you play Gears2? Go play the level again.

EDIT: I can understand that. But still, you make it seem so...aweful. That aside, I praise you for literally living up to your name, lol.

wasnt gears 2 released in november. maybe he is a pirate. pirates have no right to bash a game cuz they didnt pay for sh1t. and good job calling him out on his lies. the multiplayer frustrates me alot tho. it lags too much, too many cheaters and game ends early.

I have a short fuse when a game is released broken. I used to be a mainstream PC gamer where sell it now patch it later is/was the norm. It ticks me off to the core that this is now the mentality on console gaming as well. Especially from a company like Epic (Epic / Gears of War is the single biggest deciding factor as to why I purchased a 360 in the first place) that has made some of the best online games on the PC and now the 360.

I am so frustrated waiting for Epic to fix Gears of War 2. I almost sold it off a couple times already. When this new patch is released I hope it fixes most of what is wrong with multiplayer. If not I will say enough is enough and move on. This was far and away my biggest and most anticipated title for 08 and beyond but it ended up being my biggest disappointment even though I enjoyed the single player (except how it ended with no true final b****e <- dotted out for spoiler purpose) and Horde mode is neat but not my cup of tea. I want to battle humans online and not CPU AI. I had enough CPU AI playing the campaign.

Get on this Epic. It should have already been fixed to the best of your ability. We should not still be waiting on a patch. Why did you have to go with matchmaking to begin with!? *SIGH*

My GOLD account expired then and I don't feel the need to pay for a service that I feel that's inadequate to pay for. I play online perfectly fine with my PC and PS3 and they don't cost me money other than my inherent internet bill.

and even if I do or don't pirate where is the problem in that to you? Did I hurt your personal gain with Microsoft by doing so? DO you own stock in Microsoft? Do you own 10% of shares? No? Didn't think so, people are free to do as they will.

Listen folks, I really don't care if you believe me or not I've played the game I came I saw I conquered looping bit maps and shady covering system that feels like a magnet on a refrigerator and the reason why I didn't respond? Oh I don't know it was 6 am in the morning and I had to get up for work lol, something you do to contribute to society you must know what that is.

You can still gain achievements on silver account.
Others can still view your last online date with a silver account.
I would know because im too cheap to pay gold lol.

However, if one's network tab is unplugged, there is no way to upload the two mentioned above.

Was never a big Gears fan. But looks like this game was just as buggy as the first one. The first Gears is the only game that screwed up my achievements. That game screwed me a good 80 achievement points and they never fixed it. But I am hooked on Horde. That is the main reason why I bought the game.

I've always thought Gears(1) was fun. It's not "go out and buy a 360 just to play it" fun, but it's fun.

Luckily, the "go out and buy a 360 for them" games are all ported to PC. That way, I don't have to actually, ya know, go out and buy a 360.

HORDE RULES! Seriously, I have at least 15 people on my Friends List with whom I regularly---er, continually, play Horde. Talk about intensity!

Beyond that, the upcoming patch is welcomed. As so many of my friends, in addition to those regular "horders," own Gears 2 I will no doubt be playing all the multiplayer types for a long time.

For me, and millions of others, Gears 2 is a great game---and a must own. There will be snowball fights in Hell before I tire of Horde.

Who cares now it's to little to late. I'd rather play COD4 or 5. I love Gears, but the thing I hate is that it takes forever to kill someone unless you get a headshot with sniper or hammer of dawn. after playing horde for so long they can have their broken ass patch.

I just bought a PS3...for all the obvious reasons, but also because I was getting bored and jaded with FPS's....or Gears 2 which is over-the-shoulder shooter. I like the Gears shooters better as I like to see my guy. But, in this day and age these types of games should all have tangible rewards, upgrades and customizability to help motivate players. CoD does this exceptionally...but I get pwned far too quickly as I'm more a week-end warrior due to work and life. This leaves me little time to get good enough or to learn the maps well enough to hold my own. But I still enjoy the experience. So...I started playing Resistance 2. For some reason...I can't quite put my finger on...I enjoy it more than Gears 2 single player. Gears 2 Horde mode is still the best fun since the invention of sliced bread - but for my shooter fun...I find I play Resistance 2 more. Probably because my PS3 is all new to me at the moment. I expect and hope KZ2 to be truly special. I do believe that Halo: ODST will be fun....but will in no way challenge KZ2. Question: does anybody know if KZ2 has a leveling/rewatd system ala CoD W@W?

horde is boring after getting the achievement. the only interesting levels were 8,9,10. when you start over at level 1 to 7 fighting monkey dogs /friends is boring. lol it a quick fix for me at times but boring after that. the horde mode starts to chugg when things get heavy offline and online. people are amazed that the online portion of gears2 is broken when the offline portion of gears2 is broken as well. lol

the gears2 is broken not only in the sp/mp because of execution of the entire package that can not be fixed after being shiped. they will not be able to fix these glitches. there are too many and the possiblity of them lies in the entire design of the game as a whole. when you see someone picking up a gattling gun you might throw a smoke grenade at him as he picks it up. this might cause a dupication glitch. the guy who got stun will have a gattling gun in his hand but a gattling gun will still be on the field for someone else to pick up..!!! all of the problems in gears2 are because of poor execution by the gears2 designers. it is nobody fault when you smoke grenades someone out of the map or into stone structures. the game is broken but fun but broken. i have 46 achievment out of 50. i have seen alot of the poor design decission in this game online and offline. fyi Rein said that they are adding new achievements for the DLC maps. money grab again without compensation for the real gears2 fanbase who put up with and bought this broken game.. bypass me!!!! rental and wait with Epic game or any game that uses their engine.

Quite overdue, & it doesnt sound like even half of the issues have been addressed. As for the Lag & shotgun, I believe it when I see it.

Why cant I simply play warzone ?

Why isnt there a regional setting ?

How is the uberchainsaw being fixed ?

What about the Kung Fu flip, Dummy, Chainsaw with any weapon, Moonwalk, Off the Map, & oh so many other Glitches ?

Why are the player & weapons movement so much slower than Gears 1 ?

Smoke... er, I mean concussive grenades, Matchmaking, & the Mortar should be removed from MP altogethor, IMHO.

BTW, you complain on EPIC's forum & you get banned = you make a youtube video & it gets shut down. The best Youtube vid highlighting most of the glitches is no longer available with the following disclaimer:

"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Epic Games, Inc."

EPIC has lost alot of respect with me & my gaming friends in how they have handled this situation & banned fans instead of listening to them. The ppl that kept after them by making the vids & going into EPICs forums with CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms are the ppl responsible for these attempted changes.

its a little late. i traded my copy towards fallout 3 and its the greatest decision i could have made. fallout 3 destroys gears. i cant believe gears got scores that high when it was clearly broken

...is TERRIBLE when compared to Gears 2. Fallout 3's graphics are disgustingly pathetic when you are close to something. The game play is dragged out, the controls are moderate at best. Gears 2's laggy/problem oriented multiplayer is better then ANY other game out on the market right now. It got so many perfect scores because overall the game is outstanding.
